Killing Floor by Lee Child is a Jack Reacher rollercoaster. Suspend any cynicism re Jack’s ability to take on the world and settle in for a puzzler full of action, betrayal and regrets. The characters are fully formed and the plot’s a corker Four stars all the way

Another in the Jack Reacher series , usual format and as usual brilliant! Jack arrives by bus into a new town and walks 14 miles to the centre , gets breakfast and is suddenly arrested for murder . Apparently there is an eye witness who saw him near the crime scene. Eventually he is set free as his alibi checks out for the time of the murder , but he knows one of the victims . he starts to check out what has been going on and finds out an investigation into a high level counterfeit operation was underway. The great and the good of the town were all involved and grants were paid to all business owners in the town so no questions asked as to where the money came from. Jack manages to bring it all tumbling down in the end , high body count , teaming up with a pretty girl for the investigation , they seem good together but will she get him to settle down ? Well written and brilliantly thought out , will not disappoint.

Read this many many years ago, but when the opportunity was presented to read it again and review, I thought why not ?
so glad I did, it was great to go back to the very start of what is a superb series of books by Lee Child.
As a result of reading this again, I'm now working my way back through the series.
Brilliant, thanks again.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lee Child is a well know prolific writer, but for me, this book did not live up to this high flyer status. Not his best book.

The first and definately one of the best Reacher books by Lee Child. A clever plot which introduces us to Jack Teacher his quirks and history. A truely great 5 star read.

A gripping thriller. Really atmospheric writing which painted vivid pictures and drew me in. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is a drifter. He's just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he's arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Jack knows is that he didn't kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn't stand a chance of convincing anyone. not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.

I've read a few of the Jack Reacher novels but never the first, so this was a good opportunity to see where it all began in this re-release of the original.
Generally I remember the Jack Reacher books to be action, action and more action with not a great deal else. This was a bit more detailed than that and was nicely descriptive too. It was a good balance of mystery and intrigue with your typical action-hero fighting and shooting.
A great book with the only criticism that it was perhaps a little unnecessarily long.
5 stars though from me based on the preview version.
Many thanks for the ARC.

Nothing can prepare a reader for a book written by Lee Child . Nothing can compare to a Jack Reacher thriller. Watching the version of Killing Floor on Netflix is brilliant but and it’s a big but! Reading any book by Lee Child is the stuff of a readers dreams. Complicated three dimensional characters. Intricate plot that is impossible to untangle. A disregard for light touch when violent actions will get the job done more quickly. And finally Jack Reacher, the formidable protagonist holding everything together. his mind operating with the speed of light yet never too busy to dwell on life’s simple pleasures and pursuits. A complex conspiracy based on deception and intrigue delivers a five star read on every level. An exhausting unmissable book by the master of this genre . Immense gratitude to author, publisher and NetGalley for this opportunity to read yet another immensely entertaining book by this superb writer.

How have I never read a Jack Reacher book.
I’m 25 years late to the party, but the party is still rocking, my favourite band is playing, bottomless beer is flowing, and sushi is being served by models.

I got reeled in straight away (how can you not) and enjoyed the ride from start to end.
Jack Reacher is a Bad Ass, and if you can embrace some of the absurdity, you’re in for a treat.

The first Jack Reacher book which is quite descriptive but I think that helps with the story, looking forward to watching it on tv

This novel is the opening novel of the Reacher books and as such is much more descriptive than others but I think you need to know all about Jack for the future
He is a loner who travels around from place to place always finding trouble and always managing to solve it with bare minimum of clothes and weapons
In this book he is introduced to a major counterfeit money scheme that is happening in a tiny little wealthy town in the middle of nowhere
Jack only decides to jump of bus by chance and then by chance finds his brother is involved this means he is involved

Lee Child always gives Jack Reacher a great depth of character. I have read quite a few of his books, they are always good and this one didn't disappoint. Having just watched this book as a tv series I thought that I would find it lacking but it was excellent, filling in the gaps as only a book can.
Jack drifts into a small town and find himself accused of murder. This annoys him and he cannot work out the strange dynamics within the town between the officials namely the police, the major and a local businessman. Jack plans to leave as soon as he is cleared of a murder he didn't commit until he discovers that his brother was one of the victims. Setting out to avenge his brother Reacher sets about cleaning out the rotten businessman and his paid henchmen. Gripping

Killing Floor was the debut novel by Lee Child, first published in 1997, republished in December 2021. It features Jack Reacher, a retired military policeman who travels perpetually. He arrives in a small town in the middle of nowhere only to be arrested for a crime he didn't commit almost as soon as he enters a lowly diner. Another chap is arrested with him.

Whilst a case of mistaken identity, Reacher has the unenviable task of trying to get his arresting officers to see the flaws in his arrest. Using his very sharp and logical thought processes, he highlights the gaps in their theory, offers alternate thought processes and ends up indirectly supporting the investigation.
He also needs to sidestep attempts to assault/kill him. Reacher through his narration, grips you in the way he shares his logical thought processes, how he pre-empts violent strikes against him and explains some of the military approaches to dealing with other human threats. He mostly remains calm and focused but does have the odd rant.
Parts of the story that suggests the whole town is owned and paid off via underground criminal activities does feel a bit far fetched at times, but with the background knowledge learning about the money laundering industry, it remained thoroughly entertaining, nonetheless.
It proceeds at pace, with loads of twists and turns. There is a sense of regular impending threat. Good tension and suspense. A good bit of brutal and vivid violent fight scenes, dashed with a little bit of dark sarcasm. Great entertainment.

The opening is slow to begin with however as the story progresses you are able to form a unique relationship with the complex character of Reacher and for those of you who have already been acquainted with Jack this can either be a love or hate relationships or perhaps a mixture of the two. This then translates into a thrill ride of a story, one that is chilling and tense and leaves the reader unable to put the book down. Thoroughly enjoyable and perfect distraction reading, I have recommended this to the older students at my education setting as well as other books by Lee Child in the Reacher series.

Killing Floor is the first in the Jack Reacher book from Lee Child and it doesn’t disappoint!
We are taken back to when Reacher is only 6 months out of the Army, and travelling around the southern USA by bus, when he decides to stop in a small town in Georgia. He is arrested and charged with murder of an unknown person whose body has been found nearby…he has to prove that he wasn’t him, but someone is determined that it was!
The small town of Margrave is a strange place - everything is immaculate, and no one will say anything against the Kliner’s who own a warehouse (and most of the town).
The chief of detectives Finlay and his assistant Roscoe are on Reacher’s side, or so it seems, but Reacher goes to jail with another suspect and people end up dead. Just who can he trust?
Child keeps the suspense up, with a few more deaths and beatings as is usual, and it’s a good read.
This is a re-release of the first book in the Reacher series - but it’s still as good as when it first came out.

I have read many Lee Child books in the Jack Reacher series & it was thoroughly enjoyable reading his first one again.
That one started me off I couldn't get enough of them as I love his character quite ruthless but with a gentle side you so want to know more about this man.
He is an ex tough military cop who has no abode & as he always travels light buys what he needs to cover when he needs it .
He uncovers corruption wherever he goes & ends up helping law enforcement out or getting into trouble himself on occasion.
He is trained to act fast &. always be aware in any given situation so he rarely relaxes.
Reacher is one of those guys who fascinates you & you want to know more about why he is the way he is.
If you haven't read any of this series you are definitely missing out.

Easy to read, page turner! Reacher comes across as quite ruthless, but with a gentle side as well. and it would be interesting to know if the following books delve into his upbringing more.to explain his thoughts and actions.
For those who have never read a Jack Reacher Novel, I would recommend them to anyone who likes US Crime stories.
