This story was intriguing but it lacked pace. The dialogue in this novel was awful. The characters were boring and unrealistic. The ending really let the book down

The Night She Went Missing
By Kristen Bird ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a fabulous debut! I had no idea how this story was going to play out! Full of twists I did not see coming. Emily Callahan has moved to Galveston with her parents and sisters. We follow Emily trying to settle in to this new town where her name means everything. Maybe too much!

This small town is very clique where who you are is everything and keeping up appearances means even more.

I loved how this story kept me guessing - I was wrong every time 🤣. Have to admit I did get confused a couple of times around who was who BUT my week has been crazy crazy so probably my fault for not paying attention a couple of times!

Fab story - 💯 recommend and I will pre ordering Kristen’s next book!

Basically the tale of Emily who went missing and the 3 mothers each defending their cubs no matter what. More of a kitchen sink drama than a thriller with an implausible storyline. Too much chatter and not enough action which made it dull and monotonous. I had to force myself to even pick this book up and was delighted when finally could move on to something else! Lots of people seem to like this novel but it just didn’t resonate with me at all.

This is an edge of your seat gripping thriller with lots of unexpected twists and turns , I found it to be an interesting and quick read. I didn't like any of the characters as I found them to be stuck up but despite that it was still an intriguing book. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Catherine has moved back to her husband Carter's home town. She does not get on with her mother in law Rosalyn, who runs the town, due to her wealth. There is lots of competition between the local women and their children. When a young girl goes missing, more secrets are revealed about the past.
Where has Emily been? Are past rumours true?
Excellent plot, believable characters and very enjoyable read. Will be reading more from Kristen Bird!

This is a tale of wealth and drama and how kids doing stupid things can have plenty of consequence:m. When a girl goes missing from a tight knit community, we see a huge fallout in the process of getting her back as well as an insight into how towns like this function. It is well written and definitely a page turner, despite some unlikeable characters!

A fine read. Typical thriller, tension, secrets, lies, missing people, twists. I didn't love it, but it was a quick read and written well I'd read this author again, especially with something a tad more original.

Catherine had to resign from her job at the university after being accused of an act of misconduct. She returns with her family to galveston bay. Well, this is quite the place as her return seems to mix and set of a series of events that are uncomfortable to read about.

The story unfolds and there are some uncomfortable realisations to discover, Teenagers and what they got up to in the past comes back to haunt the present. The start of the novel announces a development that is explored in the novel but no spoilers here as its best to discover for yourself.

These are awful people but fun to read about!

What a thriller, it gripped me from the first page, twists galore in it and I couldn’t figure it out right up to the end x

The Night She Went Missing, the début thriller from Kristen Bird opens with a prologue related by Emily. She describes being found face-up in the Galveston harbour on a sunny morning. She conveys that she is unable to move or speak.

Catherine Rubisi is a composer and music educator. She committed an act of misconduct, resulting in her resignation from her university position. With her husband, Carter Callahan, a corporate lawyer, she has returned to Galveston from Oregon, along with their daughters, Emily, and young twins. Carter is the son of Rosalyn Callahan who runs Callahan Preparatory Academy, an exclusive school attended by the children of wealthy parents. Morgan Frasier, the divorced mother of Alex, has been dating Robert Steele. Alex was accused of sexually assaulting a female classmate three years earlier. The charges were eventually dismissed, but he still lives under a cloud of suspicion, and he is friendly with Emily. Morgan still wonders whether her son is capable of an act of rape. Leslie Steele continues to mourn her husband and Robert's brother who died a few years ago and she now suffers from anxiety attacks that started not long after his death. Leslie's daughter, Anna was the most popular girl at Callahan Preparatory, but Emily's arrival has threatened this achievement for her.

The story's timeline slowly reveals details about the characters' histories and their relationships with one other. The chapters containing Emily's narration credibly and deftly depict teenage angst about friendships and the quest for popularity. The author skillfully ramps up the book's dramatic tension as the reader ponders Emily's future. The story moves forward swiftly, with surprising plot twists and unexpected revelations. A fascinating aspect of the tale is the various ways in which the mothers, Catherine, Morgan, Leslie, and Rosalyn all react to Emily's disappearance. This story of secrets, conflicts, fear, scheming, morals, grudges and family values inspires readers to consider the lengths they might go to in similar circumstances. Very highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Headline via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

The author’s writing style lends itself perfectly to the genre. She knows exactly when to end a scene and mount suspense. The characters are well-drawn and believable. The plot is perfectly paced, holds your interest, and keeps you guessing. It’s a page turner, for sure!

Edge of your seat thriller, with so many twist and turns, and really gripping. This book is really not to be missed if you love a physiological.thriller.

This book was not a good read for me. I found the characters far too shallow to let me want to form any sympathy or empathy with them. The mother in law was like a character from an American Downton Abbey. The plot was ok and I know lots of readers will love it but I always say you can’t please everyone…

The night she went missing by Kristen Bird.
Catherine moved to the close-knit community of Galveston Island to leave the past - and the terrible mistake she made - behind her. What she didn't realise was how much influence her mother-in-law, Rosalyn, has over the island and that being a Callahan means having strict standards to uphold.
She soon meets Morgan, the one woman who seems to get her. But Morgan is still reeling from the former rape accusation against her teenage son, Alex, which left her side-lined from the community.Leslie on the other hand is the model Galveston Island citizen, who since the death of her husband she will do anything to ensure her children succeed. But cracks are starting to show behind the perfect veneer. When Catherine's teenage daughter, Emily, goes missing after a party, it shakes their world to its core. Everyone looks to their children - or each other's - for someone to blame. What really happened the night Emily went missing? And who has the most to lose when it comes out?
A very good read with good characters. I liked the story and characters. 4*.

I'm sure I read that this was Kristen Birds defeat novel but I really can't make my brain accent that that can be true! This book was amazing, I was so hooked from the start. I did just intend to skim it whilst watching YouTube but the TV was very quickly ignored and I was up half the night with this story. I love how the characters are all written, they're all so individual and realistic and rounded. It's so easy to really empathise with everyone and relate to their feelings of x,z and z. There's also a really good range of characters but without it ever getting confusing or losing people in the mass. The plot itsself was so captivating, it keeps taking along at a really good pace and by the time things do start to go wrong, you're already completely invested. I also loved that every part of the narritive seemed relevant, it never felt stagnant or like you're reading filler and you're just dying to flick ahead to when things actually move along. Its constantly in motion and sweeps you along with it. It's just all so easy to picture, as I said I'm really surprised that this is someone's 1sr attempt at writing a thriller because it's better than some ive read from authors with massive back catalogues. There is so kuch tension and suspicion throughout and a few wee twists thrown in and I just couldn't say enough good things really. I can't wait to see what gets brought out next, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for future releases of thrillers are your thing then you will love this
