The Paris Apartment
by Lucy Foley
Narrated by Clare Corbett; Daphne Kouma; Julia Winwood; Sope Dirisu; Sofia Zervudachi; Charlie Anson
“In a beautiful old apartment block, deep in the backstreets of Paris, secrets are stirring behind every resident’s door.
The lonely wife

The party animal

The curtain-twitcher

The secret lover

The watchful caretaker

The unwanted guest

There was a murder here last night.

Who holds the key to the mystery of apartment three?”

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK an audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having read The Guest List and The Hunting Party, both by the same author, I was looking forward to listening to this one and it did not disappoint. It is another page turner of a book by a Lucy Foley with a really good twist at the end. I have given it 4*

The Paris Apartment is a thriller in almost closed door as in... mainly in a building in Paris.
Even though the thriller itself is not bad and most of the twists where not too predictable, the ending was.... very over dramatic and very much non plausible. Even though I liked the main plot i didnt make it fo me..

Compelling, atmospheric and genuinely gripping. A cast of characters vividly drawn in a wonderfully claustrophobic location. Recommended.

My first Lucy Foley and I was not disappointed. She is able to create really spine tingling atmospheres and a great cast of characters, You think quite early that you have worked it all out but then she manages to surprise you in the end!

Foley’s signature style of multiple narratives and forced proximity strikes again!

Despite including all of her usual elements, The Paris Apartment feels fresh and assured in its style and engagement. I loved how all of the tiny twists that felt almost like subplots became so important at crucial moments and her descriptions of these characters created such an uncomfortable atmosphere in the best way!

I also found that, listening to this book in audio form added to the intrigue Foley creates with her plurality of narrators, so thank you

The Paris Apartment is the first book by Lucy Foley that I’ve read and honestly, I was a-bit disappointed. I know people have loved The Hunting Party and The Guest List so I had high hopes for The Paris Apartment. The books seems abit like marmite, some people loved it and other hate it…

For those who loved it, I can see reasons why, it’s fast paced and engaging. There’s a murder that needs solving and clues are dropped throughout the 416 pages. Interesting characters and strong use of ‘background’ characters in the plot reveal.

However, for those who hated it, I can also sympathise. It’s a 416 page book that could have been 300 pages. There’s a decent chunk in the middle that nothing much happens except Jess wandering around Paris and living in her brothers apartment. There are a lot of unlikeable characters and three fairly big plot twists which feels abit like overkill. Foley, has definitely considered her story and the many twists and turns but sadly the outrageousness of it all ruined it for me. There are a lot of cliches, of both characters, sex workers and Paris.

It’s a shame about the ending as 2/3 through I felt the book was going to have an impressive climax but instead it feels more like it’s been written for a mini-series on TV when the actors can really bring the characters to life and instead felt a little flat as a book.

I am interested to read another by the author to compare and see if it lives up to the hype.

I’ve been stuck on this book for such a long time, but have finally managed to finish it while on holiday (and determined to remove it from my TBR)

Ben is awaiting the arrival of his half-sister, Jess, at his apartment in Paris, but someone arrives before Jess, and Ben is nowhere to be found and so the mystery begins…

Our author shares multiple POV’s without becoming complicated and her words and language used make it easy to visualise each setting.

I struggled with this book, but I feel this was more on me than it was the book. I originally started it before becoming poorly last year, and I attempted to listen to the audiobook during my recovery, but couldn’t ‘get into it’ - maybe my subconscious at play. Not too surprised or moved with the ending, but glad I finished it

This was by far my favourite Lucy Foley book Iv read. The atmosphere instantly had me hooked and I could imagine the setting perfectly, the variety of different characters were eccentric and interesting to discover more about. Nothing was predictable and although at points the pacing felt a little slow it was worth it for the payoff at the end. Highly reccomend, thank you to the author and NetGalley for the arc.

I picked this up and really enjoyed reading it. I read it in one sitting and have since gone on to read some of the authors other books which were equally as good.

I received this from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This felt like an age to get through honestly. It was a 2 star book all the way through until the end which bumped it up a little. I think I was paying so little attention that the end came as a surprise to me.

I was really excited for this one. I’ve previously read and loved ‘The Guest List’ by this author, but haven’t listened to an audiobook of hers. This started off really well. There was a small build up to the main premise. Jess arrives at her brothers house to find her brother home. Shortly after this a dead body is found. I enjoyed the different perspectives but I didn’t like some of the other characters. The ending was a bit disappointing. Despite this I will still be watching out for Lucy’s other books.

This unfortunately wasn't for me - the plot was super complicated, I kept getting lost and bored and the last twist was super unbelievable. I hope next Lucy Foley book will be more my style!

I actually read this book before listening to it and I'm not sure which was better.
I love reading but there is something to be said about laying in bed at night, tucked up all cozy, listening to someone read to you.
However, this might not be the best book to be listening to in the dark!
Reading it was far less creepy than listening to it, so I think because of that I may have enjoyed the audio book more than my kindle version!
Lucy Filey has smashed it out of the park yet again with another fantastic book, the writing was on point, it pulled you in and then kept you there, not wanting to put it down to make a cuppa or anything.
An amazing book by an even more amazing author.
I cannot wait for what comes next and hopefully the wait won't take too long!

This book wasn't for me, it failed to hold my attention so I didn't finish it. I liked the narrator.

I did not finish the book as I found it very average and it just couldn't hold my attention. I really hope things could have been better in this as I had a lot of hope.

This audiobook was incredibly well put together. I truly felt all of the tension that should be felt when reading a story like this

I normally really enjoy this authors books but found this one a little bizarre! It started off ok but then just got so unbelievable that I just couldn’t relate to it. I was going to give up but stuck with it but the ending just had me rolling my eyes as it was such a ridiculous ending

The narrators in this book did however bring the characters to life and were easy to differentiate between though the narrator for Jess was a little robotic in places

A very engaging and addictive story. Lucy Foley always comes through with a page turner. I loved the atmosphere of the story, I did not expect the twists at all and I felt so invested in the characters I would happily meet them again in a sequel or prequel.

I have enjoyed the other books Lucy has written however I struggled to engage with this one. I am a big mood reader so I suspect that it was right book wrong time. I took the decision to put it to one side so I could revisit it without spoiling the plot.
