This is the 13th Rizzoli & Isles novel. Of which I’ve been an avid reader of all her novels , but Rizolli and Isles are my favourites. We once again get to visit with all our favorite characters. Jane, the notoriously bad-ass homicide detective and her partner Barry Frost, as well as Maura the quiet medical examiner, with a Priest for a partner. In Listen to me we also get to spend time with Jane’s mom Angela, who is as formidable as her cop daughter.. While Jane is slightly occupied trying to solve a brutal murder of a nurse, Angela keeps blowing up her phone! Angela has unofficially appointed herself as head of the block watch in her neighborhood. Angela misses nothing and much to Jane’s chagrin feels the need to share it with Jane, coming up with some very weird and wonderful deductions, or, is Angela as intelligent and deductive as her daughter.
Once again we get an incredible psychological thriller with a touch of humour and a whole host of enjoyment. Another fabulous read from this excellent author.

I have always loved Gerritsen’s Rizzoli and Isles series - it was a staple series when I was discovering my love of police procedurals! I was absolutely delighted to see a new one coming out and jumped at the chance!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about these characters again; although this book in particular was more Rizzoli centric and Isles didn’t feature much at all.

There were quite a few plots to get to grips with, which came together in the end and multiple pov, which I feel always keeps the pace going nicely and always keeps me gripped.

As always, another solid book by Gerritsen - this has prompted me to go back and re-read the series!!!

I used to be absolutely hooked on Rizzolli and Isles books and now realise I still am.
This was as good as usual and I just finished it too soon. I need more by Tess, her books are interesting and always well written with great storylines.

Boston based homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles are back when the body of nurse Sofia Suarez is found in her home. Investigating the scene, Rizzoli finds Sofia made a number of calls before her fatal attack. It seems the killer wanted to certain secrets hidden. Meanwhile, Rizzoli’s mum has some new suspicious neighbours and is keeping them under her radar.
Great addition to the series, Rizzoli and Isles never fail to impress. A brilliant series which two realistic characters.

Tess Gerritsen has remained a favorite author of mine over the years and i enjoy the Rizzoli & Isles series of books. There are many twists and turns in this mystery, a murdered nurse, mysterious things happening in Rizzoli's neighbourhood, a mysterious man who seems to be stalking her but the many plot threads do come together towards the end of the book and will keep you guessing at how they could be related. Listen to Me was definitely more about Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles was not featured much at all. It also featured a lot of Jane Rizzoli's mother as a first person point of view. An interesting addition to the story but it didn't feel as much of a thriller as other books in this series, Its wasn't one of my favorites but still a good read.

This book has two plot lines, the one featuring Jane and Maura, and that of Angela, Jane's mother. Angela is suspicious of her new neighbors and has to figure their mystery out herself. Another thrilling read by a very talented author!

It's been a long time since I read a Rizzoli and Isles thriller. I actually had plans for past few months to reread some older Rizzoli and Isles thrillers (Body Double, Vanish and The Mephisto Club). So, when I was on NetGalley months ago and saw that Tess Gerritsen was going to release this series's thirteen outing, I had to jump on it. I missed these characters and I am ready to return to this world and these characters...

There's something strange about Angela Rizzoli's new neighbours. They keep to themselves, the blinds in their windows are always drawn and Angela can't shake the feeling that the wife's in danger. But no one believes her, not her neighbours, not her boyfriend, not even her daughter, Detective Jane Rizzilo...

Jane can't think of her mother and her wild theories right now. She finds herself investigate the gruesome yet senseless murder of nurse Sofia Suerez. She was well liked and well respected nurse. No one has a bad word to say about her. But there's something not right, and it seems to be linked to a former patient, a daughter of a doctor Sofia worked with. Is the doctor's teenage daughter, Amy, just suffering from a string of bad luck, or is there something more sinister going on...?

It was a joy returning to these characters. I forgot how much I missed them and am now really excited to reread the earlier Rizzoli and Isles thrillers. But, let's be truthful here, this outing (while fun) wasn't the strongest in the series.

Let's start with the positives. I love these characters and it felt like I was returning to old friends. Plus, this novel had four narrators and this kept the story moving. Angela's characters was in first person and it adds an nice layer as we know, while Angela and Jane love each other deeply, seeing both her and Jane's chapters showed their mother/daughter relationship from both sides. And Tess's writing is still gripping.

However, the plot isn't exactly new. The first half of the book was more exciting than the second half. The second half was lacking and several of the subplots were pointless and lead nowhere. Plus, for a Rizzoli and Isles thriller, we barely saw Dr Maura Isles. We only had her for a handful of chapters - this was a very Jane-centred novel - nothing wrong in that, but I do wish we saw Maura, even if it's chapter where she's with Jane and Angela and we look more at their friendship.

Like I said, this wasn't the strongest outing with these characters, but I missed these characters. Plus, long time fans will be thrilled as it's been five years from Rizzoli and Isles's last outing, I Know A Secret, that came out over five years ago.

Now, when should my reread begin...? Or should I try one of their adventures that I haven't read yet (The Sinner & Last To Die)?

I know when i pick up a Tess Gerritsen book that I will be getting a good story and Listen to Me did not disappoint.

PLOT: There are four POV’s in Listen to Me. As expected Jane and Maura POV. But we also get Angie Jane Mother POV and a new character called Amy POV. Jane, Maura and Amy tell the story of a murder of a nurse, and how that murder maybe connected to Amy Hit and run as well as a murder and child abduction nearly 20 years ago. We see the character personal life as well as the unraveling of the case. While Angie POV focus on her neighbourhood, a missing girl and a new strange couple. Her story shows the drama and secrets a little neighbourhood can have and everything not always as it seems.


CHARACTERS: One of the reason I have come back to this series 13 times is I enjoy the characters. Especially seeing the different strength of women in a male dominated field, and how they tackle their job and personal lives.In listen to me part of the book is told via Jane mother Angie POV and the going on in her neighbourhood. I liked this side story, but there where time where i did find Angie a little annoying. I liked how it was resolved and how she dealt with certain situations. But I completely understand why Jane would avoid answering her calls.


WRITING STYLE: By having the story told in multiple first person accounts, it helps keep the story going at a decent pace. It also help with the mixture of personal details within the case(s) / mysteries. The personal aspects don’t go to long, but allow you to see characters in a different light.

THEME: Crime, Mystery, Abuse, Murder, Stalking, Family.

OVERALL: A really enjoyable mystery, that kept me entertained over the two nights I read it.

My rating for Listen to me is 4 out of 5.

I love Tess Gerritsen''s books and was over the moon to read this latest Rizzoli and Isles. It is mainly seen through the eyes of angela, Jane's mother and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Tess Gerritsen never disappoints. 5 stars

An enjoyable addition to the series, but a little slower, more suspense cosy crime than the usual darker reads I expect from Tess Gerritsen.

This book focused a lot on Jane's mother & a secondary storyline which, although interesting, did change the style & mood of the book. The main storyline telegraphed the conclusion from the start so it all felt a little flatter than normal. That being said it was great to be back with Rizzoli & Isles & I hope they get back to their grittier cases in the next book.

Listen to Me is a long awaited novel in the Rizzoli and Isles series. Detective Rizzolis mother plays a prominent part in the story and there is less interaction between the detectives and the medical examiner. A fast paced, enjoyable and satisfying read.

I loved being back with Rizzoli and Isles! It’s been a while since we’ve had an installment in this series but it was worth the wait.
Jane and Maura are investigating the violent murder of a nurse with no obvious leads. Meanwhile, Jane’s Mum, Angela had become suspicious of a new couple who have arrived in her neighbourhood but Jane thinks she’s overreacting.
I only had to read the first chapter to know I was back in safe hands with Tess Gerritsen. I was also impressed that this didn’t feel tired o boring considering we are quite far on in the series.
Listen to Me was fast paced with some excellent plot twists. The characters were familiar yet we still found out a little more about them, especially Maura and Angela.
I can highly recommend this book and I hope we don’t have as long to wait for the next one.

I've read all of the Rizzoli and Isles books and it feels like it's been a while. It was enjoyable to come back to familiar characters but with this book having a high level of contact surround Angela Rizzoli, Jane's mum it felt a little different and was a little less appealing to me.
It was like a modern day version of a miss marple....based in America. A bit of a busy budy interfering in everyones business that gets dismissed because she's just a nosy neighbour etc but ends up being right and solving it all.
The story isn't bad and as I said enjoyable, it just wasnt what I was expecting or used to from Gerritson.

Having read the whole of the Rizzoli and Isles series up until now I was really excited to get the next installment in the series. At the start I was a little disappointed because it focused quite heavily on Angela Rizzoli, someone I don’t have a lot of interest in, and massively don’t like. I didn’t dislike her exactly but she’s like an overbearing mother who is loveable and well meaning but really frustrates you when she’s in your life. That being said, I did warm up to the storyline and in the end found it to be really enjoyable. The cases involved in this book were really well done and though I guessed one of the biggest plot points I was still on the edge of myself seat from start to finish. Tess Gerritsen has once again proven that crime is her forte and Rizzoli and Isles have plenty more room to grow and continue thrilling us with every twist and turn. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the character of Amy, but in the end the storyline was so attention grabbing that my lack of love for her and Angela were less important. Thanks for another great read and I look forward to the next one!

I was thrilled to be approved to read the latest instalment in one of my favourite crime-thriller series!

Boston PD Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles again team up to solve the brutal murder of a widowed nurse in her home. Investigations reveal that Sofia Suarez had been conducting intriguing internet searches and trying to contact former nursing colleagues in Maine - could there be a link with her murder? Another entwined storyline follows a hospital colleague of Sofia's in Boston, whose daughter has a strange encounter with an unknown man at Sofia's funeral.

Meanwhile, Jane's mother Angela Rizzoli has two mysterious issues of her own to get to the bottom of - the disappearance of a local teenager and a suspicious couple who have moved into the vacant house across the road. As in the television series adaptation, based on Tess Gerritsen's books, Angela's antics provide a lighter comic foil to the more serious professional pursuits of Jane and Maura. But this time, Angela might have stuck her nose into something more serious, as shots ring out across the road one night...

I regret that I haven't read this series in order, as there are clear character arcs that would be better appreciated by reading consecutively. In spite of this, Listen To Me was a thoroughly engrossing read, and I'm sure would be appreciated by other readers who haven't read all the previous books or are newcomers to the series. Despite featuring many of the same characters and themes, there are distinct differences between the books and the television adaptation.

Tess Gerritsen's plotting is superb, with the story swinging back and forth enticingly between different narrators, maintaining the reader's interest throughout. I picked one aspect of the solution from about the midway point, but this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the ride to the end. Indeed, it occurs to me that Gerritsen deliberately gives the reader the experience of being ahead of the protagonists on occasion, creating an immersive reading experience. Jane Rizzoli, Maura Isles and Angela Rizzoli feel like old friends, all three strong women with fascinating backstories, identifiable and likeable, despite their various foibles.

I'd enthusiastically recommend Listen To Me to any reader who enjoys well-plotted police procedurals and crime-thrillers. While this is no cosy mystery, there is added domestic and character interest which add occasional light humour to the narrative.

Having read some of the earlier Rizzoli and Isles thrillers I was keen to catch up with them in this new book.
In this one they are investigating the murder of a nurse but there is also an alternative point of view as Rizzoli’s mother starts to notice some nefarious goings on in her neighbourhood. A young girl disappears and her new neighbours are behaving in a rather secretive way.
However her Detective daughter is not interested as she has so much on her plate trying to piece together the nurse’s murder.
It would not matter at all if you had not read any of the previous novels, in fact I had read some but could only remember bits. The characters are well rounded and I particularly enjoyed the bits narrated by Angela, Jane Rizzoli’s mother as they are humorous and fun as well as being interesting.The main theme of book seems to be Mother and daughter relationships as all the main plot lines are based around this.
The denouement when it comes is unexpected and even though I am a seasoned crime thriller reader I did not guess the outcome which was gradually and cleverly revealed. In fact the last part of the book really picked up pace and I was flying through the pages keen to find out what was going to happen.
I would definitely be keen to read the next book in the series and recommend it as a five star read.

Having read some (not all) of the Rizzoli and Isles franchise, I was really looking forward to this next instalment. It was a really enjoyable read, with the two lead characters investigating the murder of a nurse. What followed was a twisty, unpredictable journey that intertwined well with other themes in the book. The second half of the book in particular was gripping and I did struggle to put the book down as it moved quickly to its conclusion.

Angela had quite a prominent storyline, which of course resulted in her getting into a bit of mischief. The detailed inclusions of Angela’s neighbours added some complexity and brought some surprising revelations.

Whilst it is part of a franchise, I do think it does work well as a standalone.

Overall, I would recommend this book (and the series) to anyone.
