Another excellent addition to the Rizzoli and Isles series featuring detective Jane Rizzoli and forensic pathologist Maura Isles. In this episode Jane and her partner Barry Frost are investigating the gruesome but seemingly random death of an ICU nurse and the abduction of another woman. Her mother Angela is on alert over some odd happenings in her neighbourhood and keeps imploring Jane to investigate but Jane has more important crimes to prioritise and doesn’t have the time to spend on her mother’s worries.

This was quite an intriguing read. The many plot threads do come together after some good twists and false turns, but not until late in the novel and will keep you guessing at how they could be related. It’s always a pleasure to be back with the characters in this series again. Although Maura plays only a small role in this novel, it was fun to see more of Angela and particularly her mother-daughter relationship with Jane – they are similar in so many ways!

A college student senselessly run down in the road. A well-loved nurse beaten to death in her own home. A suspicious couple moving in over the road. Welcome to the 13th book in the Rizzoli and Isles series.
In the latest instalment we really get to know Jane’s mother – a right nosy neighbour who thinks it’s her right to know about the lives of everyone on her street. There’s this whole side story where she spies on the new neighbours and decides they’re too private and therefore must be up to no good. Jane is fed up of hearing about it and I had to agree, boundaries were frequently overstepped. Let your private neighbours be private.
In the main mystery, Jane Rizzoli is struggling to come up with a motive or suspect in the case of the murder of Sofia Suarez. Her investigation seems to be clutching at straws, chasing after any lead, no matter how tenuous, but eventually it all comes together. Meanwhile she stumbles into a stalking case that she’s determined won’t turn into a homicide.
There’s a slightly awkward scene acknowledging the poor relationship between police and the black community. Young Jamal had been helping Sofia with her laptop and his mother understandably goes on the defensive. Later on they return for his help though you’d think Boston PD has their own cybercrime team and didn’t need to ask a teenage boy.
Core mystery was a good balance of clues, enough to work out most of it by myself but not too easy. I thought the mystery of Angela’s neighbours was obvious, but it does lead to a Eureka moment for Jane.
Maura and Daniel’s relationship seems a bit flat. In previous books it felt like a real driving force in her character arc but now she’s just settled to being second to his calling. She doesn’t play a huge roll in this book, except for her concert performance which provides an excuse for the investigative team to be a bit closer to the family.
I really wanted to tell Angela that the trick to being good at Scrabble is not long words, but knowing your two letter words. I don’t think her Scrabble crew were all that advanced.
Not the best in the series but I whizzed through it and enjoyed revisiting old friends.

After reading the first book to feature Rizzoli and Isles, The Surgeon I was hooked and has been a firm favourite all my reading life. I was really excited when a new book to feature this duo landed in my inbox. A murdered nurse, a young girl being stalked and just what are the new neighbours opposite Rizzoli's mother upto? Intriguing, tense and just when I thought I had it all worked out BANG the author throws a curve ball and I am back to square one. A murder mystery and so much more. Be prepared to shocked, surprised and thoroughly entertained. A very happy reader.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

I didn't fall instantly in love with this book but when I got into it, and it started to unravel I enjoyed reading it .Good book.

Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen
I give this book 4.5 stars

The murder of a nurse is both gruesome and seemingly senseless. As Detective Jane Rizzoli and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles investigate the baffling case, they discover that Sofia was guarding a dangerous secret -- .
Meanwhile, Jane's watchful mother Angela is conducting an investigation of her own about the new neighbours across the street.
Jane and Maura are too busy to pay attention to Angela's fears. With no one listening to her she may be forced to take action on her own...

Although this is part of a series l read and enjoyed this as a standalone.
The fast moving chapters alternate between 4 main characters and the author does a fantastic job of crafting an action packed storyline with 2 murders and a very nosy neighbour mystery. The writing grabbed and held me throughout the book.l loved Janes mum Angela for me her chapters were the best bits.A brilliant suspenseful thriller with a clever dash of humour.
I read a lot of thrillers but this author and book stood out.,lm already looking forward to the next instalment
With thanks to Netgalley,Tess Gerritsen and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers, Bantam Press for my chance to read and review this book.

A long awaited installment in the Rizzoli & Isles series, which did not disappoint. I loved how we got to know Jane's mother Angela a little better and her role in one of the interwoven plot lines. The characters were interesting and likable and the ending was a big surprise. I would definitely recommend this book and hopefully Tess is back writing this series as I've missed it these last few years.

I never repeat the blurb. Hallelujah! The long-awaited next instalment of the superb Rizzoli and Isles series. Another great story, continuing character development and a very happy reader. Don't leave it so long next time!

I enjoy reading about Rizzoli & Isles and I was glad to get a chance to review this new installment before it was published.

This is the thirteenth book of this series and its release date is set to 07.07.2022, which makes the gap between last published book and this one almost 5 years long. Given that, all who are fans of the series, will with no doubt be glad to read about the amazing duo- detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles.

The story is told in multiple POV's, starting with Jane investigating a murder of a loved nurse Sofia Suarez. A part of the story is written from the perspective of Jane's mother Angela Rizzoli, who is trying to keep her street safe and being mindful of her neighbours. The third point of view belongs to Amy Antrim, a victim of hit and run, who is being followed by a mystery man.
Different stories that seem far apart but grow closer through the story unfolding.

Being familiar with the characters and the usual elements of Gerritsen's stories I felt this book was rather bland. The writing was good but not so captivating as I am used to.
I do wish there would be more of Maura, since I love her input in the stories, but the story lacked the aspect of both Maura and Jane. We did get a handful of Angela, a character that wasn't that included in previous works, but in this became a main character.

In the end I am glad to have a new addition in such a good series, even if I was a bit disappointed with it. I hope to see more of Jane and especially Maura in the next book(s).

A big thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for a free arc :)

If you have never read a Rizzoli and Isles book then I would suggest you start from the beginning.

Tess Garretson has developed wonderful characters and to get the full depth of each individual you really need to read the other books. This is the latest book in the Rizzoli and Isles series.

Sofía Suarez is a nurse. She has recently lost her husband and now she has been found murdered in her apartment. Jane Rizzoli is called upon to discover who could’ve wanted this well liked person dead.

Meanwhile her mother has become the leader of the neighbourhood watch . In what appeared would appear to be a case of the boy who cried Wolf , Angela Rizzoli is constantly calling the police over sightings in her close. When a new couple appear her nerves are heightened and she tries to get her daughter to investigate. As she goes about probing she also discovers her neighbours have secrets which cause confrontations and will also put her life in danger….

Can the murder be solved before anybody else is killed? Will Jane Rizzoli believe her mother.
A fast paced gripping read from a fantastic writer.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC

Many thanks to both NetGalley and to Random House UK/Transworld Publishers/Bantam Press for letting me see an advance reader's copy of Listen to Me.

This novel is Book 13 in the Rizzoli & Isles series, as once again Detective Jane Rizzoli and forensic pathologist Maura Isles team up to solve a gruesome murder.

The story opens with the apparent attempted murder of a young woman and the actual murder of a middle-aged widowed nurse. Are the two events connected in some way? And why does the murder have a similar MO to a historic crime?

What I liked about the novel was, well, all of it. It was fast-paced with several balls being juggled in the air, and some great characters. I loved this story so much I intend to go right back to the beginning and start reading all of the Rizzoli & Isles books in the series.

What I didn't like was the formatting in places. It was a bit staggered in places, with massive gaps in the middle of sentences causing new lines mid-paragraph. In one place the start of one chapter had been cut out and re-pasted at the very end of the chapter. Also, the phrase caps didn't work at all.

What would I do differently? Well, nothing, other than perhaps tidy up the formatting. The story was great, the characters were great, the writing was great. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and finished it in record time.

Five stars.

Very enjoyable and gripping book, juggling two mysteries. And just when you think you’ve cracked it, you find it’s not quite what you thought. I do love this series, and am glad to find this latest book - after a 4 year gap I think - is another strong entry.

I received a free ARC copy of this via NetGalley and the publishers in return for an unbiased review.

Having not read any of this series for a few years, it was nice to sit down and catch up with the characters!

This may sound like a negative point, but it is not meant to be. These books area a typical police procedural, very similar to the TV show that was based on the books, and whilst including some red herrings to baffle the readers perception of what will happen, the main leads will triumph. One slight negative for this book was the limited use of Maura Isles. she had a bit of a side story involvement in this, but to me seemed a bit limited for a change.

The main takeaway from this book is that you should never ignore your mother!

If you like murder mysteries, and police thrillers, give this a go, and you will enjoy it.

I was provided a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in return for my honest review.

A hugely enjoyable outing by Rizzoli and Isles as always, they never disappoint.
I really enjoyed the addition of Rizzoli's mother Angela who is every bit as fiesty as her daughter!

I'm a long-time fan of Gerritsen and this Rizzoli and Isles series but the last few books just haven't had the same innovative darkness as the earlier ones and I'm afraid there's just too much cosiness about this one for my tastes. I especially disliked the parallel plot being 'investigated' by Angela Rizzoli, Jane's mother, who could almost be an American version of one of Richard Osman's OAP investigators!

The main story felt tired and predictable and the writing just coasts. I'm sorry to be critical of such an acclaimed crime writer but all the emotional edginess of the earlier books has gone and the characters have settled into ruts. Where's the Gerritsen who terrified us? I wish she'd come back.

That was amazing, gripping. Maura&Isles never disappoint!
Loved how all the storylines came together eventhough i guesses some of the plot twists pretty early on.
Another great crime thriller by Tess Gerritsen
Totally recommend if you loved the other 12 books.

I absolutely love the Rizzoli and Isles series, written by Tess Gerritsen. So was thrilled to find Listen To Me, after a five year hiatus, book thirteen in the series. As ever, our main crime solving characters are the the tough, determined Boston Detective Jane Rizzoli; and Dr Maura Isles, the calm, collected and equally determined Medical Examiner. I have always enjoyed the these two juxtaposed characters. Despite the huge differences in every part of their being, they have enormous respect for each other and their work.

This instalment sees the murder of a nurse, who is loved by everyone. Nobody can see a logical motive for Sofia’s violent murder, including Rizzoli. A cold case murder, from nearly two decades ago appears on the radar, but the two cases don’t appear to have any similarities or links.

There is a second story running through the pages. Angela Rizzoli, Jane’s strong Mum, proves that Jane is a chip off the old block. Angie loves her community, and takes it upon herself to keep an eye on things, to make sure her neighbours are safe; leading herself into a lot of trouble along the way. Her unlikely sidekick Agnes brought a smile to my face too.

It’s been so long since I spent time with these characters. I flew through this multi-layered book, Tess Gerritsen’s writing flowing so well. I don’t feel Listen To Me is the strongest in the series, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the book, 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From me.

eads like a tv episode. This entry in the series is more about Jane's mother, Angela, and her nosy neighborly ways. Not much about Maura. The two mysteries involved are predictable but still enjoyable to read.I wish there had been more development of the main characters. Still a good series although this wasn't my favourite

I have read and enjoyed all of Tess Gerritsen's books and this one is no different. I like that there are 2 plots running simultaneously alongside each other. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
