It’s publication day for Adele’s latest book and it’s another gripping thriller with a fantastic protagonist.

Becoming an escort wasn’t Dora’s first career choice but it was a way of making a regular income. But when a client decides to take it one step too far in a vicious attack, with the encouragement from her best friend Evan, Dora decides to give it all up. Dora decides to do one last job, which leaves her in terrible danger.

I’m a huge fan of Adele’s, even before when she wrote female fiction, her books were something that I gobbled up greedily and this latest book was racing thriller that pulled me in.

I always worry that when reviewing Adele’s books that I’ll give something away because in her books, things are never what they seem. And this latest book is exactly that. Dora is a great character, she’s sassy and enjoys the lavish lifestyle that being an escort provides. She’s quick and a chameleon with having to adapt to different characters and personalities. And it’s interesting to see her so confident and assertive suddenly seem unsure in her new settings, surrounded by people that seem very suspicious.

Unsettling, deeply dark and wonderfully escaping ‘One Last Secret’ is another glorious book by delivered Adele, that’s fast paced and riddled with suspense.

This was one of the best books I have read this year. I have always liked Adele Pars’ work, but I think this might be one of her best yet!

Dora has lived an interesting life as a high-class call girl. When things go wrong, she is already considering what else she could do when, suddenly, she finds herself without that issue anymore and free to do anything she wants, its literally the dream. Then she gets the chance of one last trip with Daniel, pretending to be his girlfriend and staying in a beautiful chateau with him in Southern France. However, things don’t go to plan, and she may not make it out alive.

The plot was a little slow, to begin with, and I worried that Adele Parks had a lost her touch or I had somehow got confused with the authors. However, it quickly picked up and then I was sucked straight into the plot and couldn’t put the book down. The scenery is beautiful but the other guests in France are horrible! Daniel who had seemed so nice before, though obsessed with his friend's wife, suddenly turns nasty. The twists and turns are shocking, with everything finally being bought back around, making full sense and tying up all the loose ends for a perfect ending.

I really enjoyed the characters, even the horrible ones were so well developed that I detested them. I did predict some of the twists but not quite in the way that they played out in the end. I particularly loved the end though where Dora realises that things haven’t all been quite as they seemed and some people were just completely on her side all along.

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

I have run out of words for Adele Parks' books. There are only so many ways I can say Wow, what a book!

One Last Secret was gripping, dark and very twisted. I had no ide what was going to happen next or who to trust.

Dora is such an incredible character. She's flawed (aren't we all?) and honest, vulnerable and strong. She's not someone I would want to cross but I want to give her a cuddle.

Everything about this book had me on edge! I genuinely held my breath several times. Just brilliant!

It's always a great day when a new novel from Adele Parks lands in your hands! Adele has been a go-to author for years and it's crazy but true that every book is better than the one before.

One Last Secret is no exception to this rule. Dora's story is so emotional. It's tragic, sad, terrifying, dramatic and full of loss. It's also full of hopes and dreams, love and longing. Dora is just like most women, she wants a better life for those she cares about.

The path her life takes isn't easy at all. She got into the life of an escort when she was really young and thirsty for a better life. It served her well and Dora was always in control. Until she wasn't. Things take a dark turn one she agrees to one last job...

This book had me on the edge of my seat! I was totally engrossed and invested in Dora's story from the first page. I absolutely loved One Last Secret!  11/10

OMG, Adele Parks, you devious little minx! This book is filled to the brim with secrets and I devoured it in my quest to discover every single one of them. Just when you think you have it all worked out, Adele Parks throws another curve ball to spin you in a completely different direction.

Dora is a character with an unusual and unique voice; she is so blunt about everything, which shouldn't come as a surprise as her job as an escort doesn't require emotion. It's actually really interesting to read about such an unusual character from her own perspective. Of course, being an escort isn't something that little girls aspire to be but it is a necessary evil to pay the bills for a lot of women.

It took me a little while to warm to her as Dora is a very unemotional character, but I really liked her when I scratched beneath the surface. I love how her personal and professional lives are so very different and it was lovely to read about her friendship with Evan, which comes under threat when she takes one last job as an escort. A job that takes her to a luxurious chateau in France where nothing is as it seems.

I didn't manage to predict a single thing in this book. Oh I had plenty of ideas and suspicions but I was completely wrong on all counts. Reading books is one instance when I'm happy to be proved wrong as it shows how good the book is when you don't manage to predict any of it.

One Last Secret is twisty, addictive and unpredictable. I really enjoyed it and don't think I have read anything like it before; the main character is so unique and the twisty plot just keeps on delivering, even when you think all has been revealed there's still more to come.

A quick paced thriller with lots of twists and turns!

I felt frustrated by the character Dora at times, but as the storyline moved along quickly, this didn’t put me off from enjoying the book.

Talk about addictive thrillers. You know it always surprises me when I read one of Adele Parks's books. I'll be honest. The hook comes straight away first of. From the absolute get go if I'm honest. The storyline follows good pace and a steady rhythm, which makes it all the more consuming in my opinion as it's intriguing enough to want to know what's actually going on. I must admit, I figured things out very early on, but the writing is so good, you still want to keep reading, even if you think you know the end game. This is what's so good about this book especially. That it makes you flip page after page, till that very last word. I was very kindly approved for this one by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. If you love a good summer thriller, then this is a must read!

I have to be honest with this book, I really thought from the first few chapters that we read together (around 80 pages in) that this book was going to be a dnf for me. I found that it was a little bit drawn out and wondered where on earth this novel was going to go.
Claire agreed with me, but we made the decision to carry on, as we have loved every other novel by this author.
I am so glad that we did. The book seemed to take a completely different turn, full of suspense and we both understood why the book had so much detail in at the beginning. First impressions of Dora. I hated her. I thought she obnoxious and pretentious and so obsessed with herself. She was so unlikeable. Fast forward to 50% of the book and I was 100% on her side, hoping that she could get herself out of the trouble that she was in and really routing for her.
This novel, despite the slow start, was fantastic. It really opened my eyes up a bit. The author really lets us get to know the main characters and you can see why some people choose the life they do. I really enjoyed the journey of Dora.
I had suspicions about who the mystery man was, but only worked out a slight bit of the connection, rather than the whole story.
I loved mine and Claire's theories.
The last chapter! Wow! I was actually so happy that something happened, but equally, I really wanted Dora to find out somehow.
This book has so many messages for me, but one important message, I will take from this is, first impressions are not always what they seem.
Despite the slow start, I really recommend this book and I ended up really enjoying it.

One Last Secret by Adele Parks.
Dora is a successful escort who makes a rash decision to see one more client. After taking a savage beating she decides to stop escorting and be with her fiancé. This is until a client calls and begs her to attend a gathering abroad with her. She knows she should say no but ‘what harm would it be?’.

Oh, my, word! This was absolutely outstanding. It is dark, gritty and utterly thrilling. This is so well written. You just don’t know what is going to happen. This had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I cannot recommend this enough!

One Last Secret had me totally in its enthral from the beginning. It's about Dora, thirty-one, living in north London, who is an escort and she will be spending a week at a beautiful chateau in the south of France; it's her last job as she is turning her back on escort life. She has found love with someone she trusts and she no longer intends to be in the escort field.

I was totally invested in the world of Dora who is the principal narrator. This high-octane read was compelling and engaging and the events that played out in France led to a multitude of questions in my mind. I really enjoy Adele Parks's books as they never let you down; this one, my sixth, was totally gripping with a fantastic ending.

This is a twisted story about a high class escort about to give up the life for love and marriage but it all takes a dark turn when she takes on one last job. This really is a dark story of love and revenge.

The idea of the novel is engaging. Unusual protagonist and narrative. It is full of twists and turns.. Nothing is as it seems.
I found it interesting enough to carry on reading but it was quite an improbable situation to ask of the reader.
Would the protagonist really act as she did especially as it was drummed into the reader that she was always aware of danger, one step ahead of any threating behaviour.
I thought the ending was much overlong. Pulling another twist right at the end was unnecessary and wasn't quite believable given the details revealed before hand..
Power and control were the driving force behind this tale but I don't think the lengths the nemesis would go to was credible.
Too far fetched.

There are certain expectations I’ve come to have with each new book by Adele Parks; that it will bring drama and tension; that things will not always be just as they seem and that I will not be able to put it down as I will be so engrossed in the story. One Last Secret did not fail to meet these expectations.

By the end of the first page I was hooked. This is a book where the tension builds as we go, we grow to know Dora, understanding her situation and what makes her tick. As we progress into the story there is suspense, drama, twists and turns that will keep you guessing – well mostly. You may figure some parts of this story out but you’ll still find yourself surprised along the way.

Primarily told from Dora’s viewpoint (with a few exceptions) we get to be drawn into her world, maybe changing initial opinions of what she does when we finally find out more about her life. By looking at her past we also get the depth of character we really need to fully support her.

Taking on one last ‘job’ leads Dora into the path of danger, and it’s only a matter of time before events take a dark and sinister turn. Parks writes this wonderfully, creating an almost claustrophobic atmosphere, where Dora seems without options with time running out.

Engaging, dark and atmospheric, I think this is yet another hit from Adele Parks. I highly recommend One Last Secret. Thank you for HQ for the opportunity to read and review.

I loved this book, it was such a clever plot with interesting characters that kept me literally on the edge of my seat. It really did not disappoint at all and I continued to think about it a few days later. I can't really add too much here as I do not wish to give anything away!

I know I probably say this every time I read an Adele Parks novel, but this one IS definitely her best yet.

Dora is a high class escort, used to giving clients want they want. She is straight talking, brutally honest, and acknowledges that although not the career path she originally had in mind of herself, she is good at her job.

As a consequence, she is a woman very much in demand, she has a few regular wealthy clients and makes good money. Money so good, that she can’t see herself giving it up. What on earth would she do instead? She understands her job is not acceptable to some, but she doesn’t hide behind embarrassment.

But then something happens that turns her world upside down, and leaves her questioning all of her life choices. Could she give it? Should she give up?

Deep down she knows the answer is yes. When she gets a call from offering her one last job, she says no, but then she hears of the obscene amount of money being offered, and she says yes.

Surely it won’t hurt? One last job. A holiday if you will, to the South of France, with no sex guaranteed. The Client ( a regular) just wants to make believe that she is his girlfriend. It will be easy money, and then it will all be over.

The transaction is smooth, and then they are on their way. When they arrive she finds that the heat is oppressive, and so is the atmosphere. His friends are not at all what they seem, and her first instinct is to get a cab straight back to the airport. But they are in a remote area, so fleeing unplanned is not an option.

Dora decides to stick it out. What’s the worst that could happen?

It’s a question she wishes she hadn’t asked herself, as the days become more and more surreal. Her fellow chateau guests more and more hostile towards her. She begins to fear for her life. Surely she’s being over dramatic? Her mother always said she was too dramatic…

From here on, Dora’s story gets split and we go back in time a little, interspersed with a few other characters. This could get confusing, but it is so well written that there is no danger of that. There are some very clever twists in this novel, the plot meticulously planned to keep readers on their toes and wanting more.

And I do want more … I really want to know what happens next. Though the novel did have a great ending, I can’t but feel this may not be the last we’ve heard of Dora.

Excellent gripping thriller. I read it very quickly as it was all consuming. There were many surprises throughout and even at the end I did not anticipate what was coming.

Of course the last job Dora simply could not or would not refuse lead to so much more of the story but I was irritated that she would even consider taking it. Having said this it is when the pace really started to move on and bring all the unanswered questions together. This book was just brilliant.

One Last Secret by Adele Parks is the perfect summer thriller! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Dora. She is so personable and jumps off the page. She is so real. I love how she depicts her life as an escort, how honest she is, and how she is an enigma until we slowly learn her devastating story. Adele's pacing is phenomenal and I never got bored. I didn't want to put this book down. I also adored her relationship with Evan, how casual they were but underneath there is so much love and passion and just pure caring for one another.

The setting definitely transports you. I love the idea of a big French chateau and drama's going down within. There's something so romantic yet haunting about a setting like this one. I will admit, I was frustrated with Dora for accepting this final job when she promised to give up that part of her life but then again, where would the story go without this one last hurrah? All the loose ends tied up nicely, the connections drawn. And that last little nugget at the end... genius! If you read any thriller this summer, I implore you to read One Last Secret. You won't be disappointed!
