What an exciting start of the book! We're back to Amsterdam, back to the house we know so well from The Miniaturist ... only 18 years later. From the first pages we get a glimpse of the family issues, the secret lovers, and the young lady's ambition.
"Every woman is the architect of her own future" seems to be again the motto of the Jessie Burton's story! Super curious to read the whole story in the summer!

This is just the first chapter of the sequel to The Miniaturist: it's set about 18 years later and felt a bit like fan-fic to me. One of the best things about the first book was the tangible sense of Dutch material culture: this feels thinner with its concentration on an eighteen year old's birthday breakfast. Some intriguing strands might emerge...

OMG! I did not know this was happening! I just read the sample chapter and you can definitely colour me intrigued. I spent one glorious Christmas devouring The Miniaturist and I can't wait to do the same with this. Well, apart from it being Christmas!

Well, this was an unexpected treat. The new book by Jessie Burton was already on my radar, so jumped at the chance to read the first chapter.
Diving right into early 18thC Amsterdam, the atmosphere of the house surrounds you, the mood of the 18-year-old birthday girl is palpable and the characters are drawn with miniaturist precision.
Can’t wait for more!

It's difficult to review just one chapter of a book however I am a massive fan of Jessie Burton and look forward to reading this one later in the year (hopefully via an ARC through Netgalley if lucky enough!)
