This is a cute story with a good message about listening to your inner voice to make hard decisions. I think that because of the subject matter, it could have used a little more explanation for the reader about what exactly the inner voice was, and maybe some more real life examples for children to follow.

Book Review

Listen to Your Inner Voice by Catherine Flores @storyofbabushka

Release date : February 22nd

Thank you to @netgalley and the author/publisher for my eARC.

In this children's story a little fox is getting a life lesson from his mum.
"When you have to make a choice, use your inner voice."
We follow this little fox as he meets new characters and when he gets lost he has to listen to his inner voice to help him get back home.

Full of colourful and bright illustrations this book shows how important it is to use your intuition. I think this is an important lesson for younger children to learn.

I think this one would have a lot of teaching opportunities for an adult to teach a child about intuition and trust.

A very nice read.

This one was a lovely, little children book and I really enjoyed it. I love foxes, which is the main reason why I picked this title, and I found the story deep and good for readers of any age. The illustrations are really beautiful.

A charming book about following your instincts. The artwork and colours are seriously gorgeous! I loved all the cute animals, especially Little Fox.

The story is a bit too one-dimensional and overly simplistic for my liking, but I think it's an enjoyable read for young children.

The imagery was beautiful and my favorite thing about this book. I also loved the general concept because I think it is a really important one in today’s world. That being said, some of the elements seemed a little mature for a smaller child (hunting and fur coats) so I wish there had been a way to explain this concept in a slightly less violent way.

While the illustrations are beautiful and he concept is a great one to teach to young ones, I don't think this book was done well enough not to arise other questions. Why would a dog trick the fox, they make coats from animals? Somethings kids just don't need to introduced too young.

I really liked the art work for this story it was beautiful and playful. The story had a great lesson for children although a few elements were a bit scary (hunters, coats, bear). I think this could lead to great conversations for families

First off, the illustrations in this book were AMAZING. So bright and cute and colorful! They complimented the story perfectly. The story is about a little fox who learns about peer pressure and when to say no by "listening to your inner voice," which was advice given to him by his mom. He follows a dog out of the forest and gets lost and meets a lot of other tricky, sneaky, and mean characters along the way (the fur coat was surprisingly morbid for a kids book). This was a great book that can teach kids all about when to listen to your gut, or your inner voice, and say no to situations you are not comfortable in. I think this could work really well as a library storytime book as well!

Very colourful and very cute, this shows us a young fox cub who has been told time and time again by his mother to listen to his inner voice when a decision is to be made. But when the first one he makes on his solo trek into the forest is a bad one, will there ever be hope of making a good choice? Well, what I will say is nothing here will scare the young audience off, so you can possibly put a small wager on 'yes'. Readers of all ages will appreciate that this is a decent narrative, and not just a message or moral – especially with this visual style, it's certainly entertaining stuff. A strong four stars.

“When you have to make a choice, listen to your inner voice”. I couldn't help but sing that a la Daniel Tiger. Great book to read to teach the importance of following your intuition.

This is a sweet read about (as the title says) listening to your inner voice. A fox is fooled into a dangerous situation when he goes against his gut instincts and is able to find his way home when he stops and listens to himself. I liked the illustrations. I would read this to my daughter when it is age appropriate.

This is such a cute book! as future Elementary Teacher I would definitely get this for a classroom. it teaches kids how to listen to themselves and this book would be nice paired up with a topic of the week. amazing in a classroom setting.

This is a super cute book that centers around a young fox on an adventure. It teaches how to listen to your inner voice and stay safe. I thought the illustrations were really well done and I liked the storyline as well. This would be a wonderful book for young readers!

Certainly a very cute book for little readers! It's about a young fox taking an unexpected adventure and learning a lesson about listening to his inner voice (as her mother warned him). One day, he encounters a dog who asks him to play. The fox hesitates, but then goes against his inner voice that tells him to not play with the dog. Turns out, the dog lured him out so that his human hunter buddies can hunt the fox. The fox goes on the run and tries to get home. That's where his journey begins!

Overall, I enjoyed this illustrated story. The illustrations are wonderfully done and the text fits with the story line. I think it also send a good message that sometimes you have to listen to what your gut (aka your inner voice) says, otherwise you might end up in some not-so-great situations!

This was such a cute/slightly traumatizing/important book for children....I know those adjectives are on opposite sides of the scale, but they are all true.

The book is cute because of the precious main character of the little fox and the illustrations that are beautifully done.

The book is slightly traumatizing because of the illusions to what dangerous situations the little fox enters.....first, the fox is almost tapped and most likely made into a fur coat, next, the fox is almost eaten by a hungry bear. These are the facts of life, of course, so I think it is important that children learn about predators and where our food/clothes come from, it's just definitely jarring. I think it was really well done though, and my interpretation of the lesson is more to do with the content and not the delivery. Flores explains it as gently as one can so that children can understand.

Lastly, the book delivers an important message throughout the book through the line, "When you have to make a choice, listen to your inner voice." I love that the lesson is short, simple, and rhymes, because the children that read this book- by themselves or with their parents- are more likely to remember the words should the moment arise where they are put in a dangerous or scary situation. No one wants to think about all the potential dangers children can face day to day, but we need to, and we need to better equip our children with the knowledge to trust their gut when a situation doesn't feel right. This was an important lesson, and this is just the sort of book I would read to children or give to children.

Little fox has always been taught by his mother to listen to his inner voice when he needs to make a decision. However, put to the test, fox finds himself persuaded to ignore that advice and learns a lot as the consequences of that decision play out.

Adults should be aware that this book gets a little scary and there are grave threats to little fox. All is well in the end, but care should be used for more sensitive students as this is a little darker in parts than is typical for children's books. That said, the illustrations are gorgeous and vivid and will really help immerse readers in the story. The lesson about listening to and trusting one's own intuition is a good one, and it's a topic not often covered in picture books. This could be a great resource for starting conversations with early elementary students.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
