Enjoyed this and very different to the usual run of the mill horror stories. I thought it was going to be a bit like Misery - but it was totally different. It was well written and kept you hooked to the end.

Elite Special Forces are training in the area. Elidh comes upon Connor and offers him shelter from the cold. She seems to be a kind helpful woman until she isn’t. The characters in this book aren’t particularly likable. The tension between Connor and Elidh is always there, waiting to see what will happen. There was a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This book was a little too gruesome and I felt extremely uncomfortable while reading it. I would read it and then put it down and then try again and repeat. I made it to 44% of the way and have decided to call it. I thought this might be more of a mystery but I would classify as horror.

Not my cup of tea. I rarely give up on a book but I tried several times and I just couldn't finish it.

Wow I don't know quite how to describe this book on one hand it was much to gruesome for me but one the other hand I couldn't put it down it was a real page Turner. Was so well written with some fascinating characters and the story was so different to my usual read and loved the ending. I'm sure this book will appeal to many readers

A chilling and atmospherical read.
It starts off a but slow for me but then picks up well and you start to put the pieces together and it starts to become more thrilling and interesting.
Some chapters were very creepy and it upped the thriller.

Well written with lots of suspense but I just couldn’t shake the plot annoyance that he went to stay with her in the first place.

An unpredictable read which kept me guessing all the way through. I didn't know what to expect going in but found this genuinely hard to put down.

I felt uncomfortable throughout the entire thing which I think makes it a perfect psychological thriller. The pace felt right, the characters are strange, I'm not sure if I liked anyone at all, andthe setting is claustrophobic and eerie. I enjoyed the entire read, I think!

The cover of this book draws you in and you know its going to be dark.

It's a good page turner and at points I had my breath held waiting to find out what happened.

It is really descriptive and you do feel like you're out on the Moor with them.

It's a good first time read of this authors work and I look forward to reading more.

From the promotional description I thought that I would like this book, but unfortunately I did not. It was more like a horror story than a gripping mystery.
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for the advance copy of this book.

Connor is on Army training on Bodmin Moor. He meets a local woman who offers him a hot meal and a place to rest. He knows that this is against the rules but decides to take her up on the offer.
When he tries to go back on duty she won’t let him leave.
A slow moving story with an unbelievable ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

You Can Stay is the invitation given by Eilidh to Connor in her remote cottage in Bodmin Moor. Connor is on a gruelling challenge to see if he is fit to join select forces. His companion goes shopping, he accepts Eilidh’s invitation and it all goes wrong-predictably wrong-from there on. Before that, the reader is treated to extended detail about the Special Forces training programme which is enough to put anyone off wanting to join them! The fact that Eilidh’s invitation is in fact a trap is obvious to anyone except, apparently, Connor. This book is not a gripping read or page turner. It has a predictable ending. I am unable to recommend it.

It was a page turner, I did want to know what happened, it was well written but somehow the ending left me dissatisfied. No likeable characters, no-one I was invested in, it was readable but not quite all it could have been..

Definitely had strong vibes of misery in this book, chilling in a lot of places and near the end I couldn't put this down. Loved the end!
This was my first Elle Connel book but I'm certainly going to read more

This amazing psychological thriller tells the story of an event that took place years ago between two old schoolfriends but they both see it differently. Sam, a successful author has a wonderful memory of a shared sexual encounter between two best friends but Lisa, left behind in their hometown and now married to Sam's ex boyfriend from school remembers a very different time of being forced into this encounter with no choice but to give in and surrender to her friend's strong personality and desire.
This is a fantastic book that is written so well. It opens up the dialogue about consent and abuse from both sides of the coin.I really enjoyed it. The author put other characters in the story with differing memories, involvement and opinions of their school life. I was in that world fully with my feet in the middle of all that was happening!!. A superb read!!. You'll really enjoy it too!!.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the free ARC book for an honest review.

This is a dark and atmospheric thriller that held me in its grip throughout. It is also a bit of a Hansel and Gretel fairy tale, albeit without Gretel and a happy ending. Hansel, alias Connor is a Marine Corporal competing in a Selection Process to join the Elite Special Forces. In the woods (Bodmin Moor), he encounters Eilidh, who turns out to be a right witch and who lures him into her (ginger bread) house where she feeds the senses of the warmth-, food- and love starved Marine. Connor realises too late that he is trapped and that his captor’s intentions are anything but benevolent.

It is also a study about exercising ultimate power over another person and how mind and body resist and comply in the struggle for survival. Given that Connor is a highly trained Marine, it is no mean feat for Eilidh to stay in control but she has one advantage over him: she is a psychopath and as such does not have to deal with feelings of empathy and guilt. I found it fascinating how both, captor’s and captive’s actions were determined by their own inner daemons, which they must exorcise in order to stay on top of this mental and physical power struggle. Nail-biting until the very end with a big twist waiting for the reader in the epilogue.

I am grateful to NetGalley and Headline Publishing Group for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rip-off of Misery.
I would have given this an even lower rating if the author had not acknowledged Stephen King's Misery at the end. For those, younger than me, who don't remember that book and film, this may be an unusual, exciting idea. But not for me. Unfortunately, it meant that the twists were obvious in advance, and therefore affected my enjoyment of the story.
I was also disturbed by the ending - I do not see how this could possibly happen, as there are too many locals, delivery drivers, post, and the visiting paras, who could so easily have disputed the story. I'm trying to not give spoilers which I hate, but I just don't see how this could have possibly worked out, so it was put in purely for shock value, without being credible.
