Patti Ann Browne’s Write Your Own story is a candid glimpse into the life of a longstanding cable news presenter who walked away from the spotlight and found joy in life’s little pleasures.

Browne takes an honest look at the highs and lows of her life and the often-turbulent world presenting the news. Known as ‘The Notorious P.A.B’ by her fans she reveals why she walked away from her career after three decades. She shares how her son almost lost his life after his premature birth, how she coped with it and how it changed her perspective on life.

I felt that this was lacking emotion at times and could read more like a news report, but it was otherwise a good and informative read.

I was not familiar with Patti Ann Browne, but was interested to read this memoir of a newscaster who is both conservative and Christian, as I am. As a long time journalist, Browne is a very good writer. My only criticism is that the book reads more like a news report, even when she is telling stories about her premature infant in the NICU. I would have liked a bit more emotion in the book. If you would like a glimpse of the life of a newscaster who rose to the top ranks of broadcast journalism, this would be a good read.
I received a complementary copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am reviewing a copy of Write Your Own Story: How I Took Control by Letting Go through Permuted Press, Post Hill Press and Netgalley:
Write Your Own Story offers a witty and candid glimpse of life in cable news from a long-time anchor who walked away from the spotlight and found joy in faith, family, and life’s simple pleasures.
In this witty and at times humorous memoir Patti Ann Browne takes an honest look at the highs and lows of her life, both on and off the air. She provides insights into the turbulent world of television news and weaves in advice for aspiring journalists, parents of preemies, working moms, and anyone trying to stay grounded in a world that increasingly values superficiality.
Write Your Own Story is an entertaining and intimate memoir, the woman known by fans as “The Notorious P.A.B.” reveals why she walked away from her TV news career after three decades. In this memoir Patti Anne Brown not only shares life on camera but she shares the funny and poignant moments from life off camera as well. Everything from how she met her husband four years after turning down a blind date with him, to her son’s near death shortly after his premature birth and how it changed her perspective on life. She tells of stories from her younger years as well as telling e dramatic story of her twin sister secretly placing a baby for adoption and being reunited with him decades later.
While many books will declare you can have it all, Patti Ann dares to say no one can…but with flexibility and gratitude, you can come close. From local cable to MSNBC and then Fox, the #1 cable news network in America, Patti Ann describes her determination to write her own story. She resists the pressures of climbing to the top and the sacrifices that entails, ultimately choosing faith and family.
From her humble upbringing in Queens to rubbing elbows daily with the world’s movers and shakers in Manhattan, Patti Ann explains how she found a way to enjoy the perks of the glamorous life of an anchor while (mostly) avoiding the pitfalls.
Fiercely protective of her middle-class lifestyle, Patti Ann believes simple pleasures are life’s greatest joys. Her uplifting story is one of following your heart, owning your mistakes, living with integrity, and leaving the rest to God. Rooted in faith and optimism, it’s a redemptive tale of humility and serendipity.
If you’re looking for a book that highlights the important aspects of Life, then Write Your Own Story is just the book for you!
I give Write Your Own Story five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
