Deliciously dark and absolutely intriguing I loved this. The daughter of a serial killer seemingly has a (nearly) perfect life after salvaging it and keeping the past under wraps. She has a virtuous job, two lovely children and a, not quite perfect, husband.
She does have blackouts though and has worries about what she might be getting up to during them, roaming her sleepy home village in her nightclothes. When the woman her husband had an affair with mysteriously vanishes the pressure is seriously on regarding her sketchy recollections and other unexplained goings on and doubts and self doubts mount as does the scrutiny of the police and some of those close to her. The question of nature and nurture rears it’s head, can you be born a potential serial killer or is it something learned or developed?
Some interesting questions and food for thought and some great plot twists and turns, an excellent and enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed The Serial Killers wife, so I was so grateful to receive a copy of the next in the series The Serial Killers daughter.
Jenny has managed to recover from the traumatic childhood she had and grow up and become a vet in a sleepy village in Devon. Where she lives with her husband Mark and their two children. Jenny hasn’t told her husband who her father is. She is the daughter of Paul Slater better known as the The Painted lady Killer.
Jenny and Mark and shocked to find out one of the school Mums Olivia has gone missing one night on the easy home from a night out. The same night that she has a blackout and wakes up with her PJ. s covered in mud. Olivia had an affair with her husband Mark, but they got back together again. Jenny has had several blackouts and does not remember what happens the next day, so she wonders has she got anything to do with Oliva’s disappearance and she keeps doubting herself. And questions if she is responsible when she finds dead animals on her doorstep in plastic bags. Or is she going out of her mind.
Thank you, Avon, for a copy of this book. I did enjoy this unique story of Jenny. It has several points of view and full of tension. But I did find it a bit slow in parts and only fully invested in it about the last third of the book. 4 stars from me.

Jen thought she'd managed to put her childhood behind her, a successful vet with a happy marriage and 2 children life is going well. A brief affair her husband had last year rocked her world for a while but they have been making amends and all seems to be on track. Until Olivia goes missing and Jen's blackouts start up at the same time. Strange things start happening and Jen thinks she's losing her mind. Is the glimpse from the past affecting Jen's future
This was a slower burn than Alice Hunters first book but enjoyable nonetheless. There was enough intruige for the reader to be invested in the story.

The book was interesting and in some ways quite readable and intriguing. However the reviews seem to me to be overhyped. I have read better books on the serial killers.

Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange of an honest review.

This is my second read by Alice Hunter and I loved it (just not as much as The Serial Killers Wife) but nonetheless, it was a fabulous read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We meet Jane, a vet in a sleep little village with a very secret history that even her husband does not know....yet. Mysterious packages are left on their doorstep - which Jane finds and hides from Mark and she feels that someone out there has found out who she is.

Jane seemingly has it all, a lovely home, two beautiful kids and married to Mark - but things are not what they appear. Jane has black outs at night, sleep walks and wakes up in different various rooms in her home. It transpires that Jane is not just "Jane", she used to be "Jennifer" and her dad was a serial killer.

When a woman - Olivia goes missing one night, the sleepy village is in shock. All members of the village are interviewed in order to try and find Olivia. Jane is worried as she hears Mark mention to his friend that the evening of Olivia's disappearance, Jane had one of her sleepwalking incidents and had mud on her PJs.

There are many things that happen during this book and Jane is paranoid that she may actually have hurt Olivia so she is desperate to find out what happens when she has a blackout. It is not long before suspicion falls onto Janes and the novel goes full throttle.

If you enjoy a fast paced read with lots of twists and turns then do grab a copy of this novel.

Thanks to the publishers, NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel.

“Our worries and questions will eat away at us if we keep them buried. Like poison waiting to claim a victim.”

Jenny has spent years escaping her troubled past. Being the daughter of a serial killer has left her traumatized to the extent that she periodically blacks out and has no memory of where she has been or what she has done. So, when a local woman turns up missing on the same night as one of her black outs, Jenny begins to worry what she might have done…especially when the woman in question had an affair with her husband. Will Jenny be able to unlock the secrets in her mind before the police discover her true identity? After all she’s “the daughter of a serial killer. Doesn’t murder run in the blood?”

When I first saw the title, thought it was a sequel to the first book by this author, The Serial Killer’s Wife. It is not. This is another twisty tale of a family and how the evil of one affects all the lives around them. While I guessed who the killer was, still found this to be an enjoyable read and would recommend to fans of this genre!

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **

I loved The Serial Killer’s Wife; it was one of my favorite books last year. I loved The Serial Killer’s Daughter just as much, maybe even more. The main character, Jenny, is a small-town veterinarian with a traumatic past, raised by a serial killer father who made her witness some things that young children should definitely not witness. Now a young woman has gone missing in Jenny’s town, and Jenny begins to fear that she has abducted the woman herself during one of her nighttime blackouts. The story takes off from there, devious and twisted, with Jenny suspecting her husband of the abduction. I love the author’s writing style, which gives us access to all of Jenny’s confused emotions, self-doubt, and desperate drive to find out the truth. I stayed up til three in the morning to find out what really happened. Now I’m hoping there will be another novel in the series, The Serial Killer’s Granddaughter!

The Serial Killer’s Daughter | Alice Hunter
Pub Date: 21/07/22
Genre: Domestic thriller, Psychological suspense, Mystery

The Serial Killer’s Daughter is the second book in the Serial Killer’s family series by author, Alice Hunter. This book is standalone and has no direct connection to the first book, other than the theme.

Personally, I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first novel and found it to be a sold, compelling, and engaging psychological novel which asks the question about nature versus nurture, is murder in the blood?
Told in alternating first person POV, the story follows Jenny, whose father was known as the Painted Lady Killer responsible for murdering several women when Jenny was a child. Now married to Mark, and a successful vet, Jenny is trying desperately to escape a past that won’t let go. When a woman goes missing and strange events start occurring, Jenny starts to question her own actions and sanity.

The use of Jenny’s blackouts and lost time, creates an unreliable narrator which leaves the reader questioning who to believe and trust. The authors portrayal of PTSD and trauma, I felt was very realistic and believable.
There were enough twists and red herrings to keep things interesting but I picked whodunit long before the end. The motive still had me guessing though. I found the twist to be clever and enjoyable.

Overall, this book was a solid 4 stars which met expectations and offered an entertaining and satisfying story which was easy and quick to read.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book.

I have posted to Goodreads and will post on Amazon and Instagram closer to the release date.

Does murder and evil run in the family? Jenny has changed her name and distanced herself from her past, of having a serial killer father and controlling mother. She’s now a wife, mother and vet. No one knows her secret past though and then a woman goes missing. But not just any woman, the one who her husband has had an affair with. Jenny worries she will be the main suspect…which makes sense due to the dead animals she keeps finding and her blackouts.

This is an engaging book that really keeps you guessing with the curves and twists that are thrown in. We go along with Jenny to figure out if it is her or someone trying to frame her. There’s never a dull moment and what you think may not be it at all.

I highly recommend this book as well as The Serial killers wife.

This was a great thriller with some good twists. The Author creates the needed suspension and storyline that will keep you reading until the end. Great premise to a story that will keep you guessing.

I'm not ashamed to say that I completely binged this book in ONE sitting - it was that good!

The characters and plot grip you like a vice and you can't wait to see what the next page will bring.

I loved Alice Hunter's previous work #TheSerialKillersWife and this one doesn't disappoint.

Many thanks to the author publisher and Netgalley for a free ARC of this ebook.
I can't say that this was one of my favourite books ever, It's all highly implausible, The thin characterisation and a meandering story line didn't cut it for me at all.

This is the second book I have read by this author and pleased to say it did not disappoint. From page one I was hooked and fully immersed in this very clever thriller. I had no idea what was going to happen and certainly did not expect the ending. If you enjoy a twisty thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more then this is the book for you! WOW

A woman, hiding her identity and suffering from blackouts and night wanderings, wonders if she has anything to do with a missing woman, one who her husband cheated with. This is a fast reading and at times creepy story. There are descriptions of animal abuse that I found hard to read. Overall, it was just ok for me, I read it to the end as I wanted to see how it resolved. It left with some next possible novels, involving her husband and her daughter.

I loved this one. I’d read the previous book too and I was offered this one. I couldn’t put it down. It’s fast paced, shocking and worryingly awesome. The fact you can live with someone and not know who they are! I loved it. Next one please!!!

An enjoyable story that keeps you guessing throughout. You think you know what is going to happen, change you mind and then change it back again. A suspenseful thriller which was an easy read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon publishing for the advance copy of this book

This is definitely another hit book for Alice Hunter keeping inline with the seriel killer theme. Jenny is a mother, and wife with a dark past that she's kept hidden'- she's the daughter of a now imprisoned seriel killer. Jenny suffers from blackouts when she cannot remember where she's been or what she's done. The story centers around the disappearance of a local lady who just happened to have any affair with Jenny's husband. Is history repeating itself? Is she her father's daughter after all?
This is a tense, dark and fast paced book. I was left full of questions and desperately seeking answers and those were some serious revelations in the end!

What an unputdownable thriller!!! Following on from The Serial Killer’s Wife, we witness how the little girls life unfolds through adulthood and the family secrets that spring to the surface.

I would say that this could be read as a standalone too but the extra knowledge from the previous book kept me rapidly reading to find out snippets of information that I remembered.

I’ve been in a major reading slump for a year but this has pulled me right out of it. Every spare moment I had, I was reading this and staying up to the early hours.

TW: graphic animal death, descriptions of dead bodies, serial killer.

Thank you for the review copy! I can’t wait to handsel this in work alongside Book 1!

3.5 rounded down.

He is Paul Slater, the Painted Lady killer, she is the daughter, once Jane and now Jenny. Jenny is not in a good place she’s suffering from nightmares and is having blackouts. Her husband Mark is oblivious to her background and is afraid of what she’s hiding and she’s afraid too. She’s wondering if she too is disturbed? She is certainly behaving strangely and what what is worse it seems that someone knows about Jane.
In addition to the increasingly tense situation is that a local woman, Olivia Edwards is missing and Jenny believes Mark once had an affair with her.

The novel starts really well, the opening chapter is a really good hook pulling into the story.

The title is enticing (well to me anyway!) the premise is good and the alternating points of view between Jenny and Mark works well, raising multiple questions as it’s clear both are hiding things of significance. The novel is interspersed with extracts from the Paul Slater story and this adds an extra element filling you with questions as well as adding chills.

However, despite a number of very positive aspects to the story it feels inconsistent. For instance, the tension rises and then drops and little momentum is achieved in my opinion. There’s not a lot of pace, the story seems flat and an exciting when it’s ought to be a jaw dropper and sadly it doesn’t achieve that response in me. This is partly due to points being over explained and we divert to things that don’t add a great deal to the storytelling. It’s repetitive in places too.

Overall, it’s by no means a bad book, far from it. I like it but I don’t love it principally due to the execution. It ought to be a cracker but it doesn’t have much of a pop.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Avon Books for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
