A good holiday romance.
Ariana a Greek heiress who spends her time with the elite in Hollywood finds she has inherited a French hotel after her gran dies that none of the family knew about.
Ariane decides to visit the hotel, Gabriel who manages it thinks it still belongs to his family and the two clash but Ariane decides to bring the hotel back to it`s glory.

There is a lot of stars named and designer clothes named which I thought was not needed to help the story along. Ariane and Gabriel are very strong characters and likeable, yes you know what is going to happen to them but it does not make the story any less enjoyable.

Another wonderful read from Carol Kirkwood, thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this.

The Hotel on the Riviera continues the story of the Theodosis family from Under a Greek Moon, although you don’t have to have read this first book to enjoy this book.

Wild child heiress Ariana Theodosis inherits the Hotel du Soleil on the French Riviera and an exquisite diamond ring from her grandmother, however no one in the family knew that she owned either of these items and what their back story was.

Ariana is a bit jaded by her LA lifestyle and is trying to escape a scandal, so heads off to explore her inheritance.

On arrival, the current occupiers are shocked to learn of the new owner, all except Madam du Lac, who has lived in the hotel for many years and once owned it with her late husband.

As the story unfolds both families learn secrets from the past and new friendships are made for the future.

This book transports you to the glamour and beauty of the Côte d’Azur, where we meet new and old characters who are all at turning points in their lives.

A wonderful summer read and I’m now hoping there are more stories to come from the Theodosis family.

An ideal sunny holiday read with a well drawn mix of characters of all types. There are several subplots bubbling along which eventually all come together after many twists and turns keeping the reader guessing and engaged. There is a tie in with Carol's first novel 'Under A Greek Moon' but is a completely stand alone book. Set in Cannes at the time of year of the glamourous film festival there are contrasts between a glitzy lifestyle of the privileged plus real life ordinary down to earth folk together with a delve into the more seamier world of drink and drugs. A little predictable but an excellent escape holiday read

With thanks to the publishers Harper Collins and netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review which I freely give.

Greek heiress inherits a hotel on the Riviera from her Grandmother along with a beautiful Pink diamond ring. She is a bit of a party animal, has a rouge of a boyfriend. She decides to visit the hotel to see for herself. She meets the family who think they still own the hotel.

Quite a few characters are involved and we meet them overtime. Its not a book you can skim read (which I never do) if you did you might be lost as who is who.

A lovely read, the descriptions are fantastic and you could have been there yourself. I can recommend this with 5*

Loved it, this is essential summer reading
It's been a while since I've read a fictional book that moved me the way this book did.
Airana has a surprise inheritance from her grandmother, a hotel that nobody in the family seems to know about.
So well written and emotional, the strong storyline had me totally engrossed.
I really enjoyed Carol Kirkwoods first book, but this was amazing.
Thank you NetGalley

Another great read by Carol Kirkwood. A perfect summer book in which to get lost whilst sitting in the garden or by the pool.Great characters who we follow to find out who actually owns the hotel and why as well as some romance along the way.

Throughly recommend

I loved Carol’s debit novel but, this one just wasn’t as good. Firstly there were far too many characters which got confusing and also this story has been written many times before and I kept on thinking that I’d read this somewhere else such a disappointment as I was so looking forward to reading this. I do hope her next one is better. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

A wonderful, page-turning accompaniment to Kirkwood's debut 'Under A Greek Moon.' Fans will love the neatly tied family saga - but isn't key to have read her previous work as the backstory explains it all. A romantic, energetic novel with lots of drama - a dazzling holiday read with lush settings and celebrity gossip. Set amidst the backdrop of Hollywood lifestyles and European film festivals, the plot is soaked in family secrets and mystery; when Ariana Theodosis’ grandmother dies, she inherits a hotel in Cannes – but the fact that she owned a hotel comes as a surprise to everyone. Ariana travels to Cannes and meets French hotelier Gabriel, whose family have run the hotel for decades. The hotel may be run-down, but sophisticated and handsome Gabriel has always wanted to make it his own and is shocked to discover who the hotel's new owner is. Sparks fly between Ariana and Gabriel, neither is going to give it up without a fight. His reclusive mother is key to sharing the family secrets – and understanding how the two are linked. After her life in LA has taken it's toll, Ariana is on a mission to prove she is capable of turning the hotel's fortunes around. There are a cast of shady and sparkling characters to add drama - star-crossed lovers and dangerous ex-boyfriends. Kirkwood certainly delivers readers a romantic and pacy novel - I raced through it!
Thanks to the publishers for the ARC.

What a dream of a book to read, I have literally read this within 24 hours, as I couldn't put it down. It had old school Hollywood glamour, drama ,fighting, mystery and secrets.

Greek Heiress Ariana, has flown home to Greece from LA because her Grandmother is dying. He life is a mess and she is making no progress in becoming an actress but is seen more of a party girl, which she knows has been getting out of hand. After her grandmother passes she finds out she has been left a Hotel in the French Riviera in her Grandmothers will. None of the family knew anything about her owning a hotel, so it was a big shock.

Ariana decides to go to visit the hotel, where she clashes with the former owner, who didn't know that the hotel didn't belong to his family. When she gets there the Carnes film festival is taking place and Hollywood has moved to France.

With secrets surrounding the transfer of ownership of the hotel, and the tragedy that surrounds it, will Ariana and Gabriel ever work out their differences about the ownership of the hotel.

There are lots of other side stories going on in this book which makes it even more fascinating to read. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story with a bit of drama.

Summer has truly arrived. Carol Kirkwood takes us into the glorious sunshine of the South of France and the glamorous lives of the rich and famous in her latest novel.

This book follows on from Kirkwood's previous novel, but can be read without reading the previous book. It takes place during the Cannes Film Festival and the drama isn't only on the silver screen. There's sunshine, romance, family drama and more. This is a good beach read or for relaxing by the pool.

If you’re looking for the perfect summer holiday read, then you can’t go far wrong with ‘The Hotel On The Riviera’ Carol Kirkwood.

Glamorous settings, beautiful people and romance abound. Carol Kirkwood has it all in this second novel. Just lie back in the sun with a cool drink and wallow in the lives of the jet set.

I was given this ARC to review.

I loved this book and stayed up late into the night as I just had to finish reading it. Carol Kirkwood is a descriptive writer and this book certainly made me feel that I was there with the famous and the rich as well as the nasty people as well. It describes life in the south of France so well, the descriptions of the scenery, the outfits the stars are wearing and the life style that they have come to expect which is so different to the rest of the people that surround them. As well as being a great summer read, the romance by the beach story, it also covers family life, secrets and mystery so certainly an all round gentle book. I have to say that most of the romantic interludes had predictable endings but this did not detract from the pure joy of reading the book.
I was there with all the wide variety of characters and the interesting plot that was conjured up.
Highly recommend this book.

I've never really followed movie stars and other such people so it surprised me that I enjoyed this book so much. It might be a touch unrealistic, although nowadays I wouldn't be surprised at anything that happens, but there is a warmth and depth to it that drew me in. It also helped that is normal "little people" were included with Estee, a dancer in a cheap nightclub getting in the act, as well as the rich like Ariana and Gabriel and famous like Robbie and Liz. Overall a great book to lose yourself in the sunny south of France and that I devoured in a day.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

If you are looking for a summer read full of glitz, glamour, stunning locations, family secrets and romance, then look no further than The Hotel on the Riviera.

Whilst the book features characters from Kirkwood’s first book, Under A Greek Moon, this is very much a standalone story. When Ariana Theodosis’ grandmother dies, she leaves Ariana a hotel in Cannes in her will – but the fact that she owned a hotel comes as a surprise to the whole family. Gabriel and his family have lived in and run the hotel for over 20 years – he is equally shocked to discover the story of its ownership, but he is not going to give it up without a fight. First he needs to persuade his reclusive mother to finally share the family secrets – and when sparks start to fly between him and Ariana, life becomes even more complicated …..

We also meet Elizabeth and Robert, glamorous Hollywood A-Listers whose marriage is disintegrating, and Elissa, whose dreams of making it as a dancer and providing a better life for her and her daughter are fading as she finds herself working in a club in Cannes that is definitely the wrong side of seedy.

This is an ideal escapist read – with the glorious French Riviera setting during the film festival vividly brought to life, it is full of beautiful people leading seemingly glamorous lives, but with plenty lurking below the surface …… Uncomplicated but great fun, immerse yourself for a few hours and you won’t be disappointed.

I was aware of Carol Kirkwood as a weather forecaster but had no idea she was also an author. This is the only book I have read by Ms Kirkwood but I would read more of them.
The hotel on the Riviera is a beautiful setting with beautiful people. The seedy underbelly of Cannes is also featured. Old tragedies and secrets lead to present dilemmas for the next generation. This is an excellent summer/beach read.

When party animal Ariana’s grandmother passes away she is on a mission to find out why she has left her a hotel in the Cannes as it definitely hasn’t really been acknowledged as being in her family.
Whereas Gabriel and his family has been running it for over two decades and wants to take it over however he is trying to figure out why it wasn’t left to his own family.

The novel’s characters contains the elegant and the rich. No no, it is not that superficial. They are smart as well just remember.

It does come across as a bit snobby. The novel is written in a way where it goes back and forth between here and then of multiple people from both the present and the past.

Unlike most novels with multiple narratives, this one is more difficult to follow. In one paragraph you are reading about the present of Ariana. The next you are reading about Gabriel’s deceased family. There are no breaks in the writing at all to let you know instead you have to use your mind and memory to recap this every few paragraphs which is VERY annoying.

We are smart readers yes however when you have to do something like that constantly throughout then it makes for poor reading as novels should be clear and guided instead of going what some would call ‘wish-washy’.

Although it did have an interesting plot and Ariana and Gabriel’s relationship storyline has that entire love-hate thing going on which is good if you do not want too much of a captivating story of proper lust or plot lines. It did have an element of mystery with what did she exactly do ‘That Night’. Although for the over average intelligence you can tell where that story line was going. It didn’t impress me too much sadly but I do not detest it either.

Thank you to the publishers for sending me this in exchange for my honest review.

My UK readers will be familiar with Carol Kirkwood as one of the weather team on BBC Breakfast every weekday morning. She has cemented her place in the morning routine of millions of Brits. I can't leave for work until I've seen Carol do the weather forecast! Until I was sent this book to review I had no idea that she had a second career as a novelist. Her first book Under a Greek Moon was released last year and became a Sunday Times No 2 bestseller.

Ariana Theodosis has been living the high life in Hollywood trying to break into the acting business. Her wild child behaviour has been bankrolled by her wealthy shipping magnate father. On the death of her beloved grandmother she finds out that she has been left a strange bequest, the Hotel du Soleil in Cannes on the French Riviera. No-one in the family has any idea how her grandmother came to own the hotel and she goes to check it out.

In its hey day the hotel was THE place to be seen in Cannes, a mecca for the glitterati attending the film festivals and summering at the beach. Nowadays it is looking a little the worse for wear, shabby and unloved. The hotel had belonged to the Du Lac family for decades and its matriarch is a recluse still ensconced in the penthouse on the top floor. The Du Lac family has their secrets and Madame Du Lac is clinging onto them with her fingertips.

Gabriel Du Lac has carved out a very successful career for himself in the hotel business but his mother has never let him touch Hotel du Soleil. He had never understood why until the news arrives that the hotel has a new owner - and that his family had not owned it for years. This was Gabriel's childhood home and will do everything he can to stop this stranger taking it away from his family.

I know, it sounds a bit like a classic 1970's Mills and Boon story but there is so much more to the book than that. Carol is a very evocative and descriptive writer and manages to bring to life the sights and sounds of the iconic French Riviera. It almost feels like you are seated in the hotel lobby sipping an Aperol Spritz and watching the events as they happen. It is not just a romance, there is a bit of intrigue, detective work. murder and organised crime just to keep things busy! The Hotel on the Riviera is a fun read and the perfect accompaniment to your summer beach bag.

I enjoyed Carol’s first book and it is nice to meet its characters again in this new escapist sequel. This one is set is Cannes, around the film festival, and through many twists and turns we discover what happened so many years ago between the Theodosis and the Du Lac families and how the consequences still change their lives so deeply around the Hotel du Soleil, the true central character of the book. It is Cannes and its glitzy life during the festival, the rich and famous, the beautiful settings, the atmosphere of the Côte d’Azur and even a short trip to the Greek island of Ithos. Problems always seem to solve themselves and there is a lot of energy and positivity in the characters. A very pleasant and relaxing summer read,
