I have adored this series so, so much. Magical, enticing and beautifully written. I wish it wasn't over, but I have to be thankful for what we have. Murray is a very talented writer and I can't wait to see what stories he tells next.

A fiting end to the trilodgy. It has been sometime since I read the first two books and so it took a little while to sort out the many characters and where they fitted, but it soon cam flooding back. An amzing modern classic which would make a haunting film. I am sure many readers will enjoy the suspense and trying to picture the eternity engine.

I feel utterly bereft that this epic trilogy has been finalised but I could not have asked for a better ending. Orphans of the Tide feels like a modern classic and this epic saga would make an excellent screenplay.

Struan Murray is a master of his craft and I will be watching on eagerly to see what he writes next.

Struan Murray completes his Orphans of the Tide trilogy with a thrilling and satisfying conclusion. Returning, once more, to the The City, characters from both previous books return and Murray creates very interesting interplay between characters who had never met before. After the first two excellent books in the trilogy, I was really worried that Murray would not be able to tie up all of the loose threads and give us a fulfilling ending but my fears were allayed and my expectations were surpassed. I shall miss Ellie Lancaster and her adventures. Great work Struan Murray. I look forward to any further novels and will definitely be recommending the Orphans of the Tide Trilogy to my Year 6 readers at school.

The third Orphans book doesn’t disappoint! A wonderful plot full of twists and turns; characters you can’t help but root for, and a development of the backstory of Ellie’s mother. A page turner from start to end.

What a thrilling conclusion to a brilliant trilogy! I have been hooked on this series ever since reading the very first chapter of Orphans of the Tide and this final instalment exceeded my already high expectations.
Struan Murray really is the master of storytelling, driving the narrative forward with rich charateristaion in the young protagonists crafted another spellbinding story that was completely unputdownable. In using the diary of Hannah Lancaster, we are reminded of the mistakes of the past that impact dramatically on the present and this dual narrative really adds to the complexity of the story, which creates one of the best series of children's literature, which is surely destined to be a classic.
As we are transported back into the lives of Ellie, Anna, Kate, Seth on the brink of war as Kate marches on with her army towards the city, we also have Ellie is also waging her own war against the enemy. with the discovery of the eternity engine. Will good triumph over evil? Whilst the plot takes the reader on one exciting rollercaoster ride full of unexpected twists and turns, for me, it is the rich characteristaion that has the reader believing that all the charcaters have the capacity to defeat the enemy, inspite of their flaws.
And the conclusion! WOW! The ultimate sacrifice that ties up all the story threads over the trilogy. I cannot recommend this book enough and can't wait to share it at school and with my own children when they are older. Devastated that there are no more Shipwreck adventures, but will definitely be looking forward to seeing what Straun Murray creates next. An outstanding series!

I'm so sad that this series has come to an end! But what a wonderful series it was. I absolutely loved Ellie and her friends and all three books had me tightly in their grasp until the very end.

I can't even explain how much I appreciated and liked this book! It was just PERFECT! A perfect end to such an awesome trilogy. At least that's how I think it is, as I didn't even read the first 2 books of this series, oops. I apologize but I didn't even know that this is a sequel when I requested it. I didn't see the number 3 anywhere... sorry
But I still really enjoyed it and loved the characters. At first I was confused but as this referenced many things that happened before I got the drill and understood what this is about.
In this book we start with Ana, Ellie's first bestie as she's in the City and sees the sea go down and leave. She makes amends with someone who used to be 'bad' in the past books and goes to explore the place and find Ellie.
In the way she meets Viola and Oscar who also know Ellie and later Ellie herself. The queen Kate of Shipwreck Island with the 'help' of the sea god Seth who dhe imprisoned is gonna attack the City with a huge army as she wants to destroy the Inquisition and the Enemy. So Ana, Oscar and Viola need to help Ellie make some machine that is gonna stop the war from happening... that's all I can say without spoiling anything.
But wow, there were many plot twists, characters were written from perspectives of different characters like Seth's, Anna's, Ellie's and Kate's. I gotta say I really loved the world building and character development. I just loved the whole idea of gods manifesting or residing as humans, the villain who is simply named the Enemy, all the suffering especially emotionally, the way different traumas are conveyed and really just anything. The characters truly felt human and even though their situations are fantastical I could relate in some ways... And I liked that excluding the Enemy no characters were evil and all were either misunderstood, confused ir truly thought they were doing good, which was awesome... I also really liked how the Hannah Lancaster diary entries were incorporated. Truly a masterpiece!
If anyone who also read this and wants to discuss with me please contact me, I can't just keep it to myself... sigh.
The only negative thing which really isn't a negative point for the book at all, is that I didn't read the first 2 books, and now I don't know if I can as I know how it ends... but maybe some years later I can read all 3 of them, if I have time...
This author can truly write and I can't wait to see if they'll publish some other works, I'd read them all!

An excellent finale to the Orphans of the Tide trilogy.

Not much more to say really. A thrilling read. Poignant, exciting, devastating. As a trio of books, they are a truly great collection and Eternity Engine caps it off wonderfully. With the threat of war in the air, the City descends into chaos. Old friends unite to try to avert war, despite the best efforts of an impostor. As the war becomes inevitable and destruction looms, hope appears to change the day.

I cannot recommend these books highly enough.

Good ending to an enjoyable trilogy, i was happy with how it wrapped up and felt like it was a satisfying way to finish.

The only negative I could suggest about this book is that it ended. I suppose it had to at some point but as I felt the number of pages left in the trilogy get thinner and thinner in my hand, I couldn't believe it was all coming together in some kind of sinister conclusion.

Ellie is a wonderful main character full of grit and determination, but it is the band of supporting characters who absolutely made this trilogy for me. Anna, who is my class' favourite, almost became the protagonist of the final installment in this trilogy and she is certainly deserving of her own story. Molworth and Viola are both wonderful but I never wanted the tales of Castion and Hargrath to end - I would love to explore these characters even more in some kind of prequel. I was in awe of the way that Claude and Hannah were woven into the back-stories of Castion and Hargrath.

After the second book, which introduced my favourite character - Kate - I was surprised to be actually scared of the Enemy once again. Through its amazing, twisted plot, the Enemy becomes an unstoppable force midway through this final book. I genuinely couldn't see a way that a happy ending would be possible.

I would love to read more of this series but am incredibly happy that the trilogy has been concluded in this perfect way.

With more twists and turns than a 'twisty-turny thing' this was a fitting conclusion to what has been a stand-out fantasy trilogy. I genuinely had no idea where Ellie, Seth and Anna would end up at the end of this story and I'm not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it. A thrilling, inventive fantasy adventure that entertains and enthralls.

The trilogy ends here, with Eternity Engine and formally places Struan Murray at the top table for world building, character development and imaginative plots.
Having been along this journey of life and death with Ellie, Seth and Anna since the beginning, I was fully invested in their plight. Their sense of identity wrapped up in the many facets of their lives, and each other. What happens with one of those is threatened? Well, they fight back with all their strength and love.
In this continuation, Kate is making her way to The City to destroy in Inquisition not worrying about what might get in her way, or caring the way we hope she would. Seth is using much of his power to part the ocean for her March to her conquest, and Anna is hunting for Ellie!
The Eternity Engine is the only thing that can save them all and with the ocean parted,it can finally be accessed and used. But just who controls it! The answer will surprise you and take this story on a new path. Destroying the Enemy was never going to be easy but this thrilling and epic conclusion will have you gripping your seats tightly with white knuckles.
Poignant moments are woven through and the love, strength and compassion shared keeps you emotionally invested. There are also honest truths for humans to bear as we do cause chaos on the world, though not quite in the way through Enemy would have us do so.
This is a trilogy I would re-read as I feel with it complete, I could go back and lose myself entirely in this world, reminding myself of the brilliance of story, character and plot. From the beginning of the boy in the whale, which won The Branford Boase award in 2021, to the conclusion, this is an epic trilogy!

As someone who loved the previous books in the series, I was both excited and scared to read book 3. However, I needn't have worried. Murray continued where he left off and certainly helped us after THAT cliffhanger at the end of book 2. It had everything I would come to expect from this series, including wonderful characters (I do love Ellie) and a world that just leaves you feeling a little uncomfortable. A wonderful book 3 to a wonderful series. Thank you for the ARC.

A wonderful, exciting end to the Orphans of the Tide trilogy. A book that I’ve not been able to but down. My class are hooked on the series and run to the carpet every story time. They might be big Y6 children but they are never too big for story time! Thank you for this wonderful end to the books. The collection will be I. My classroom for years to come helping to promote a love of reading.

Having enjoyed the first two books in the series, I eagerly anticipated this. Thank you to NetGalley and for this e-ARC to review. The final instalment in the Orphans of the Tide triology does not disappoint. There is still the malovalent presence of the Enemy.
The seas have parted and Kate is marching towards the City and war is on the Horizon. We join Ellie, Anna , Viola and Molworth as the City prepares for the arrival of the Queen and her army. Can the City and Kate unite so that humanity overcomes the Enemy?
Struan brings together the threads from the previous books, tying everything together. This instalment is a page turner and a triumphant ending to what has been a tremendous triology.

What a climax to a truly exceptional fantasy trilogy.

Action and twists all the way, yet driven by brilliantly crafted characters - this is a story that is, at heart, simply about reconciling both the darkest and brightest parts of human existence.

Everyone. Read. This. Series.

There will always be high expectations for the finale in a series but Struan Murray hasn’t let fans down with this incredible conclusion to his trilogy. With the battle of Good vs Evil, it was hard to know how this story was going to end but I can confidently say it does not disappoint. The fantasy novel provides the reader with a thrilling rollercoaster of emotions as we journey alongside Ellie once more. The Enemy’s strength is growing; Kate is marching her army towards The City and a dangerous machine has been uncovered - with many twists, turns and some tears, the finale in the series is unputdownable. I highly recommend it.

I enjoyed this conclusion to Struan Murray's trilogy.
Throughout the whole series I have found Ellie to be a likeable and interesting protagonist and so it was really satisfying to have a conclusion to her journey.
I was pleased that Anna made an appearance in this third book, as I've got a soft spot for her.
The story was suspenseful and thrilling and I can definitely see the story encouraging children to read and discuss the twists with their friends.
I think one of the things I found most enjoyable about this book and the series as a whole is Struan Murray's talent for world-building. His descriptions make the reader feel like they are right there with the characters, seeing the world through their eyes and experiencing it.
A great series for readers who love adventure!

It’s everything that I’d hoped as an ending and more. I’ve followed from book one and have been very lucky to get book 2 and now book 3 as a pre-release on NetGalley. I couldn’t wait to dive in and get started and it didn’t disappoint.
The development of each character throughout the books is incredible, and how the characters interweave through the twists and turns to such a satisfying ending is nothing short of amazing.
I’d recommend this book to a mature Year 6 child, as the plot and the sheer amount of characters can be complex to follow at times, but I think the book is primarily aimed at those in year 7 onwards. Either way, I certainly enjoyed it!
