There were nice patterns of knitting covered under this book. It consists of many cultural knitting ways from different countires from scandinavian region. I wish if author would have included some patterns from India also, as Indians wearing clothes even when whole world wearing barks and skins to cover against nudity and weather conditions. But no complaints, obviously, as it is only relevant to the Nordic knitting patterns, the designs were good to adapt and learn about. There were shawls, sweaters & bags from older times to new ones also. Nice work.

Perfect book for an experienced knitter. I am fairly new and didn’t have the courage to make any of the patterns; however, seeing the patterns made me want to try new things.

I am obsessed with Nordic knits, and most of my projects are of that style. This book consists of a collection of (mostly?) previously individually published patterns that have been brought together in this lovely book. I would recommend this book for the experienced knitter who has experience with circular knitting and colour work techniques. There is a good mix of hats, shawls, scarves, mittens, socks, and some house wears.

A lovely collection that I will be knitting from for years to come.

Thank you to Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book.

I love being able to review knitting books and this style of knitting is a favorite of mine. There are patterns suitable for knitters if all experience levels. 5 stars!!

This book has an interesting presentation of the information, but it was not to my liking. I appreciate that the projects are based off of historical garments and motifs, I was not interested in making any of them. This book, if available at the bookstore, would be one I flip through and then put back. The only pattern I was slightly interested in, the cover pattern, was not something I would make or use upon closer inspection. When I first applied to review this book, I had hopes there was more patterns along the lines of the cover pattern, but that piece was the most modern of the bunch, and so just not my style. The instructions included are well written, the designs are not horrible, and the history of the pieces used for inspiration was very good. It is simply not my aesthetic. I would recommended anyone looking into this to find a physical copy to review or use the sample feature of your electronic reader if it is available before purchasing.

What a gorgeous book! I'm a crocheter who is wanting to get into knitting, and I've always loved the Nordic style. This book is full of beautiful patterns in traditional styles, and I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy. I love the photos, the variety of choices, and I especially love that there were stories from the cultures and people represented. Everything is laid out well and easy to read - I can't wait to try making something!

Thank you Voyageur Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This would be a great book for an experienced knitter with an interest in traditional Scandinavian knitting patterns. The patterns in this book are organized by country (Norway, Sweden, Iceland) and are thoughtfully curated with notes on the inspiration behind them. The designs are more on the traditional rather than modern-twist-on-traditional side of things, so if your aesthetic is more contemporary Scandinavian, it might be worth looking up a couple of these patterns or previewing the book before committing.

I am one of the descendants of the Norwegian people who immigrated to the mid-western USA in the 1800's. My heritage is both Swedish and Norwegian. I remember seeing my great-grandmother in the most beautiful hand knit fair-isle gloves similar to the Hilma's gloves pattern in the book. Traditional Nordic knits are valued for their warmth and longevity, as well as their beauty.

There are so many beautiful, colorful patters covering Norwegian, Swedish and Icelandic garments and accessories. The authors showcase a traditional garment or accessory and then a pattern for a more modern take on these traditional knits. A small history lesson taught us how the women would raise their own sheep, shear them, card the wool and then spin it. Many of the immigrant women in the mid-western USA would follow this tradition, including my great-great grandparents who immigrated from Sweden and were farmers in Kansas. They believed that making their own yarn was far superior than buying some that was commercially produced.

I highly recommend this book to any knitter who loves a modern take on traditional Nordic patterns. Most of the special techniques are explained well, but a basic knowledge of felting is assumed. Because of that, an intermediate or experienced knitter would be better suited to the patterns in this book. As a visual learner, I would recommend more photos.

4/5

Nordic Knits is a delightful book with projects that have a story from the different cultures of the countries represented and/or specific people whose garments inspired the pattern. The patterns had me intrigued and thinking through the necessary techniques to accomplish the project.
I adore shawls and there were two in there that look like they would be a joy to knit. The sweaters looked wonderful and the charts appear easy to read and work from. I was reading the book from my phone and I could see the charts so in the actual book I am quite sure they will be excellent.

This book is filled to the brim with patterns of things for you to knit. Divided into three sections to feature traditional knits from Norway, Sweden and Iceland, each section has projects that show the designs that are representative of the knitted clothes and accessories of that nation.
An interesting book with lots of beautiful patterns to turn your hands to.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

Knitting books are some of my favourite books, and intricate patterns like the ones featured in this book are some of my favourite things to make, so this was a match made in heaven!! I love the patterns, I love how clear the images are of the designs, just so fun! I can't wait to sell this in my store!

Thanks so much NetGalley and Quatro Publishing for this arc!

Nordic Knits is a fun and interesting knitting book that has something for anyone who's interested in this area of knit wear. The projects are clear and include great photos of the finished work as well as techniques and charts.

One thing I really enjoyed was that the projects in the book are inspired by existing classic pieces which she includes photos and information about. These aren't lengthy, just little note style text boxes, but they added a sense of place to the pieces as I read through. I also enjoyed the history of specific knit projects as it's so easy to get lost in the modern and new.

It was enjoyable and informative to read, full of project inspiration, and the instructions were easy to follow. I highly recommend.

COZY. Everything about this book is COZY. I love the historical information and personal descriptions woven through out the book. Also, one of the most annoying thing to me about a knitting or crochet book is really tiny line spacing. This book is GREAT. The spacing is great, the pictures are lush, and the sheer number and variety of patterns alone make it a great purchase. Such a great taste of the various Nordic cultures and knitting traditions scratches the historical “itch” I love in great knitting books.

Thank You NetGalley!

I read this book as a read and review from NetGalley. I loved the wide variety of patterns that were included and the history that they drew upon to design and create them. My favourite pattern was the broken rose blanket which I will definitely have to make. Well worth the look if you are interested in a blend of crafts and history.

This was an informative read with history behind Nordic knitting traditions. Most of the patterns are reprints from prior publications, but put together this way they offer a good overview of Norwegian, Swedish, and Icelandic knitting. My favorite patterns were in the Icelandic section: The Margret Shawl is beautiful, and I loved the shoe inserts - these would be great in my winter boots, though you might not be able to enjoy the knitted pattern very well. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this!

Nordic Knits is a book full of 44 patterns to make. The pictures are beautiful and there were pictures of everything you make. That helps me decide what I want to make.
There are many hat patterns and my favorite was the Flower Hat with Earflaps on page 34. I really need a hat just like this to make sure that my ears stay covered. There was an interesting pattern on page 61 - Entrelac Wristers - like wrist warmers. The cutest ever baby pattern - page 84 - Dala Horse Sweater including a small stuffed horse. You can also make a garland with the small horses. Great scarf for men on page 91 - love the brown, There are many patterns for shawls and sweaters that look really nice.
The first few paragraphs on each pattern explain the inspiration for the pattern. I think it was fun to see pictures of the stuff that inspired the patterns. There is a table of contents with page numbers and an index at the back of the book, so you can find a pattern without flipping thru the whole book.

This book has so many patterns that are amazing! Very detailed directions and wonderful photographs. I can't wait to add many of these to my future knitting projects.

A beautiful collection of knitting patterns from Iceland, Sweden and Norway, each inspired by traditional pieces. The majority of the patterns are for the advanced knitter, and I would not recommend this book as a start for a beginning knitter. That being said, the patterns are well laid out, and guidance given for techniques some knitters may be unfamiliar with. A lovely book for knitters that will educate and inspire.

Looked over this book of patterns and there is something for everyone! Definitely projects from the skilled beginner all the way up to challenging projects for the experienced knitter. There are a wide variety of patterns available: shawls, mittens, hats, blankets, skirts, socks, slippers, purses, totes, and more! You won't get bored with how many projects there are. This book includes felting projects, colorwork, and embroidery onto knit fabric. This is definitely a book that encompasses different styles of knitting from the Nordic countries and embodies a traditional feel for those styles of knits. I will be looking to pick up a physical copy of this book for my knitting pattern collection.

The front cover did not immediately grab me, but it is representative for what this book is about. And starting to read the book I loved the inspiration pictures of the original clothing. It has got me thinking and inspired me to try making my own variety of the same inspirational pictures, but if you just want to use the pattern they are easy to follow. A lot of smaller knits, but also some larger items, and interesting felting as an added technique. I would highly recommend the book.
