This could have been a great legal thriller, but the author wrote in a juvenile style, and didn’t really seem to understand how the law worked. There were good ideas, and I did enjoy the the twist at the end. It’s a mix bag for me, as the story wasn’t that bad, but the simpleness of the book left me wishing for me.

For nearly a quarter of a century Ann Jackson searched for her mother’s murderer. Now, just when she thinks she might have found him, the hunter becomes the hunted. WOW!!! Explosive page-turner with so many twists and turns!

This novel is too detailed for my taste and the pace is very slow. The cases did not really catch me and there were no real twists or surprises.

This is a thriller with propulsive prose that draws you in and steadily keeps you engaged. I really enjoyed this book and think thriller lovers will too.

An temper fuelled murder witnessed by a 5 year old girl who is now a qualified lawyer, but is still haunted by that unsolved murder that left her motherless.
This is a likeable book, characters were a bit lightweight, and a simple plot.
As long as you suspend belief and just want a happy ending you will love it😊

I rarely if ever give a poor review, preferring to let others who have enjoyed a book have their say. However, in this case, I have to say, this book was very badly written in terms of the language which is immature and sometimes ungrammatical and the plot which barely exists. the writer has had an excellent idea for a story ( a young lawyer fixated on finding her mother's killer (whose crime she witnessed as a small child) but they have failed to capitalise on it. There is virtually no suspense and the story just trots along to its conclusion. We are never in doubt who the murderer is and the prosaic telling of his unmasking leaves the reader with a feeling of total disappointment. I cannot recommend this book.

Interesting story full of drama and edge of your seat suspense. Likable characters. I look forward to more by this author.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced, engaging novel, and in particular the main character, Ann. I also enjoyed the portrayal of Ann and Jack, partners in life who also become law partners. I was completely willing to suspend my disbelief in respect of the ending, because it played to my sense of justice served.

Ann witnessed her mother’s murder when she was only 5years old.

All these years later as an adult she is consumed by nightmares which leave her lying awake all night.

She becomes a lawyer to defend those in need, when she’s trying one of her first cases she meets the judge who she takes an instant dislike too but she doesn’t know why.
Her nightmares intensify.

Why does the judge stand out to her so much? What can’t she remember?

I really liked this book though I knew early on where it was heading. It’s an easy read not in the subject matter but in the fact it doesn’t take too much thinking.

I am drawn to mysteries and this had all the best elements of court room drama and mystery. Author J.B. Millhollin has crafted a novel with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep readers engaged.

Ann and Jack are the main characters in this novel and while they are involved as a couple they also become involved as law partners which makes for an interesting concept. I am not well versed on the law but there were a few things that happened in the book that I questioned if that would really happen in today's world but again - I am not a courtroom expert by any means.

The story comes full circle from the opening with an interesting conclusion that may be a little bit far fetched but again- it was an enjoyable book to read and I came away from it happy that I had invested the time.

This mystery/courtroom drama begins with a little girl being left alone while her mother goes on a date. When her mother returns, the little girl hears arguing and through a crack in a door she witnesses her mother being killed. Years later, Ann is grown up and a newly licensed attorney engaged to Jack another attorney. Ann is starting her law practice and her very first case is to defend a young man who is accused of rape.

I like courtroom dramas and enjoyed hearing about Ann's practice and her law office. I also enjoyed her relationship with Jack as they were a loving, supportive couple which is rarely seen in novels. I found myself invested in the two court cases highlighted in the book as well as solving the mystery of Ann's mother's murder. However I did find a lot of the writing to be dated which included the names of some of the characters (20 year old women named Thelma and Charlene), the idea of calling a doctor to testify that a woman was or was not a virgin and the use of secretary rather than assistant. And I am aware that the author is a lawyer but some of the courtroom scenes just didn't make sense. At one point Ann tells the defendant accused of rape that a court date has not been set but she wanted to give him a list of jurors so he and his family could check them out. Jurors wouldn't be selected before a court date and no one would give a possible violent offender a list of the jurors where he could contact them before the trial. The biggest error was that neither the defendant nor the plaintiff's side did any sort of investigation on the person claiming rape, not even to verify the actual age, address or any information at all. It simply would be impossible for a person to walk in off the street and claim rape and no one even verifies their name or what town they live in.

Eventually, Ann gets around to investigating the background of two cases when one is over already has a verdict and the other is in the middle of trial. There are also multiple incidences of fat shaming in this book and it was not needed or related to the plot. I did like Ann and Jack and thought the ending worked well with the rest of the story.
