It’s not often I find a book that makes me stop what I should be doing so I can read, but The Last Way Home firmly entered that category. I love a solid brooding hero and Eli Ross fits the bill perfectly. The wounded athlete is expelled from the NHL and forced to return home. So, back to Prince Edward Island he goes, despite knowing he’ll get a harsh reception from his family. The one he walked away from at the worst possible time.

Violet can’t face her family after a horrific accident rips them apart, so she built a new life and career far away. Then fire destroys the pottery shop she works at, and she has to team up with Eli if there’s any hope of salvaging the wreckage.

The thing I loved most about this book is that there are four compelling threads all beautifully interwoven. Eli’s fractured relationship with his family. Violet’s estrangement from hers, fueled by her inability to forgive herself for a shocking mistake. These two parts are made possible as Eli and Violet work to salvage the shop, and love blossoms.

This is a fine and glorious story and if you love a good romance with a healthy dish of redemption, then this is highly recommended. I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley, the opinions are all my own.

This is a very heartwarming, feel good book. It has it all. Romance, suspense, growing of characters.
Very good read. Can’t wait to read the next book. I was given an advanced copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

As Eli returns home as the prodigal son he is, he discovers that Violet has filled his shoes in his family's heart. Having appeared soon after he disappeared, he's left trying to figure out how to reconnect with his family under her protective watchdog glare.

But as time passes and they begin to open up to each other, they discover they're each carrying painful secrets from the past. And that the truth is what will ultimately set them both free.

I really enjoyed this story. Its setting, characters and wisdom made for an enjoyable sweet romance, and I'm especially looking forward to the next book in the series, when younger brother Levi gets his turn to find love.

Thanks to Liz Johnson, Revell and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Have tissues ready! There are many wise words from the town's women that are essential truths all need to hear. All the characters need a dose or two and readers reap the benefits. This is an excellent following story to the beloved Beyond the Tides, featuring the Ross family prodigal eldest son, Eli, the gorgeous Prince Edward Island and pseudo-family member Violet. Stay tuned for an explosive excerpt of the 3rd book in the trilogy. I repeatedly checked the internet in anticipation of reading The Last Way Home, and this was well worth the wait! Liz Johnson crafted a must-read series.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

The Last Way Home is such a sweet and inspiring romance. This book is about a prodigal son who comes home after being away for eleven years. Eli is broke and ashamed. And the heroine, Violet has her own secrets as well. It was beautiful to see them break down their walls and confide in each other all the while falling in love.

This is a clean read with a few swoon worthy kisses. (Sigh!)

I enjoyed this so much. These people are my friends and I can't wait to read the next installment in the series about brother Levi.
*I was given a copy of this book by Revell Publishers and this is my honest opinion.

After his promising NHL career ends abruptly, Eli returns home to Victoria, Prince Edward Island. He is returning in shame, for the things he's done, the long time he stayed away from his family, and his hopelessness for the future.

Eli arrives home just in time to see his mother's business, Mama Potts shop, to go up in flames. He helps to rescue Violet, her mother's business associate and very good friend. Together they work to rebuild the shop, while a relationship starts to build between them.

This was a solid, road from dislike to something else novel. Clean, some Christian elements but not so much that it is off-putting. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

How difficult is it to come home after leaving without saying goodbye? Eli Ross left, joining the NHL on his way to fame. But when the tides turn and he loses everything (even the shirt on his back) will he be welcomed home?

Liz Johnson has crafted a story that takes you back to PEI. Where love, mercy and forgiveness is at the heart of this story. Eli has gotten himself in a big mess. Being kicked out of the NHL, he has no where to turn. After being gone for 10 years, he shows up in Victoria where he grew up and his family still lives. Hoping to make amends, he finds Violet Donaghy has been adopted into his family, and she does not like him. Not one bit. But as time moves on, and their secrets are revealed, Eli works at doing the right thing.

Liz Johnson takes her characters to the heart, and brings them to a place of letting go. I loved how Eli and Violet conquer their anger, fear and reserve to come to need God more than others. This is a sweet story of family bonding and coming together. Helping one another in need.

I received a complimentary ebook copy from the publisher, through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Liz Johnson has managed to weave a few unlikely threads together and produce a spectacular picture for readers. My heart was immediately softened with Elijah Ross’s humility. I wasn’t expecting an NHL hockey player to be so in tune with his feelings and so humble. I loved the faith message and was thankful for the reminder that God sees the finished side of the quilt when we only see the loose threads and jumble of stitched pieces on the underside. I need to remember this when it looks like things are falling apart ~ perhaps they’re falling together!

This exploration of forgiveness, acceptance and new beginnings mixed in with superb character development and a sweet romance was a refreshing read. I loved the title and was thankful that despite the many times I took the last way home, I was still accepted.

Although I hadn’t read book one, I was still able to follow the story and didn't feel that I’d lost too much background information.

I was gifted this advance copy by Lia Johnson, Revell, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

A wonderful book that captured my attention and heart. Such a reminder that God is in control of things in our lives and we need to trust him. The development of the characters is great

This next installment of the Prince Edward Island series took me a bit to get into. We have Eli and Violet, both who are very very broken, each in their own way. The past has finally caught up to them, and while they were instrumental in creating their own present, each was also influenced by their emotions, their love, and people who took advantage of that love, so it's not entirely of their own making. The question is, can they work together to heal the past and move to a better future like broken shards of pottery that can be remade into a beautiful mosaic?

“He’d spent his whole life focused on a game, focused on himself. And he’d missed the whole point of life.”

Eli Ross is home for the first time in 10 years, even though he doesn’t want to be there. He has no other options. There is no joy and little hope in his life. He has been disgraced and is afraid trouble has followed him home.

Violet is hiding out in Victoria by the Sea, PEI making pottery with Mama Potts, Eli’s mom. She has been taken in and loved by Eli’s family. She keeps her secret pain is well hidden.

But God has a better plan for both of them.
A sweet and moving story of new beginnings, family, forgiveness and hope.

Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this story. The opinions are entirely my own.

'She hoped God heard even the desperate cries of those who had almost forgotten how to pray.'

This book moved me so deeply, it's hard to think of anything else for a while. Liz Johnson has written a powerful story here of love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness. When a character grabs me the way these did, I am so incredibly happy to be reading their story.

When Eli felt all hope was lost, God had a plan. He always has a plan. He never wants His children to suffer. Eli never once felt he could have a home again and be happy. But oh, how I loved his story. Same with Violet. She, too, had lost hope. Bound in the chains of desperation, feeling she'd never again experience joy, she found that God had other plans for her as well.

This one is expertly written and will impact your heart in so many ways. I cherished every minute. Well done!

My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via the Net Galley platform. The opinion in this review is entirely my own.

I have been waiting an entire year for The Last Way Home and believe me it was worth the wait! 5 stars!

Liz Johnson has outdone herself with this second book in the Prince Edward Island series. When prodigal bad boy Eli Ross has nowhere else to go, he returns home in hopes of making things right with the family he hasn't seen in eleven years. His first encounter in Victoria by the Sea is with a mysterious woman who happens to be his mother's business partner, Violet. Mama Potts is happy to see him, but his brothers Oliver and Levi, and Violet are going to take more convincing.
NHL player Eli left to grab the brass ring and make something of himself regardless of who he hurt on his way out of town. Not my favorite of the three brothers, but as The Last Way Home unfolds it becomes clear that all is not what it seems. Thanks to Johnson's brilliant writing Eli ended up right at the top with his brother Oliver for hero status.
The push and pull between Eli and Violet as they slowly reveal their innermost pain in life gave a better understanding of who they were inside and why they made the choices they made. The pair has some swoony chemistry in the middle of all that together time!

Liz Johnson has penned some great quotes in The Long Way Home, from humorous to poignant to inspirational. I've highlighted quite a few, but some of my favorites:

*"She wasn't going to stand by and watch this guy dig into a big bowl of none of his business."
*"We both have some shattered edges"...But maybe God isn't afraid of our brokenness..."
* I think maybe forgiveness isn't sweet because it's earned...Forgiveness is sweet because none of us deserve it."

The Long Way Home hits all the right notes for me as a reader, an inspirational story with imperfect characters that find hope and redemption on the journey to love and happiness. This is going on my favorite books of 2022 list! I'm so looking forward to Levi Ross's story in book three of this series. I appreciate Revell Publishing making a copy of The Long Way Home available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

The story line of this book was unique with a twist I was not expecting thrown in. I loved the small town feel and support of the community and I also loved learning about PEI. Initial setup of the story was a bit confusing at first but once into the book, I enjoyed it.

The Last Way Home was a good read. The plot was somewhat predictable though. I loved traveling to Prince Edward Island. Three stars.
