Talk about absolute perfection. I knew I'd enjoy this one before I started reading it, but never thought I would love it so much. I had never read anything by Feeney before this, so I didn't know what to expect, but Jesus Christ! I can't stop thinking about this book!

I have always loved a good mystery, and this one just excelled at it so well. Even though I did guess the twist that had been teased throughout, I was still shocked when it was confirmed. I also had my speculations about the one carrying out what was happening, but was dissuaded of this, so I was also shocked at this reveal.

Noting but praise to Feeney for this book!

A really well written, deep, dark, twisted, physiological thriller. This is a nail biting book

In this book we meet Daisy Darker who has arrived at her grandmother's house for her eightieth birthday. It is Halloween, in a tiny, crumbling, Cornish house, which is on a tiny private island, completely cut off from the test of the world. The family haven't been together for over a decade, there are so many secrets, issues, dramas and a killer on the loose.

Alice Feeney does it again! She’s a phenomenal writer! Absolutely genius! The start is a little slow but it definitely built up. Definitely recommend!

I was enthralled by the storytelling and immersed in Daisy Darker's life. Such a rich and atmospheric tale.

Gorgeous writing with a cast of fabulous characters that kept me interested and guessing. Who was the culprit? Who would do such a thing?

The revelation shocked me.

It is a one-sitting read. With shades of Agatha Christie’s And Then They Were None, this is the ultimate in dark psychological suspense. Daisy is heading to her grandmother’s house, the place where she felt most happy, for her 80th birthday. Seaglass, the Cornish house on its own tiny island, is as welcoming as when Daisy was a child, despite the Darker family having not met all together in over a decade. It will be a weekend of revelation and celebration. Well, that’s the intention… until it becomes clear that one of the family is a killer and will stop at nothing to ensure this weekend ends badly. Add in the fact that it’s Halloween and the house is cut off from others for at least eight hours and you’ve the devilish recipe for a book that will keep you reading long after your bedtime. I’m forever impressed with Alice’s plots and this is no different; one that will think about long after you’ve finished the final page.

I have loved previous books by this author and had high expectations from this one too. I was rather disappointed. The plot only gripped me when the twist came towards the end. I would easily have given up reading at any point before this. The story lacked the intensity it needed. It tried hard to emanate Agatha Christie’s style but something just wasn’t right.

A dark and twisty closed door mystery with echoes of Agatha Christie. The Darker family gather on a remote island closed off by the tides to celebrate the birthday of Nana and learn of last will and testament while she is still alive. The tension between the family members is palpable with deep seated resentments bubbling to the surface and threatening to pour forth. During tje course of the night, threatening messages appear in poetic form, alongside vhs tapes and the body count of family members grows as they are picked off one at a time. This a a heart in throat read and will have you furiously turning the pages to solve the mystery. Darker by name and nature! #daisydarker #alicefeeney #netgalley

Loved this, just when you think you know what's going on, boom, wrong again, this had to be read in one sitting, another all nighter, so worth it, Alice Feeney does it again, brilliant read.

This is a hard one for me to review as the first 40% I quite enjoyed however my interest and attention dropped after this. Alice Feeney does a great job of creating an eerie claustrophobic atmosphere - especially the creepy old house.

From reading the synopsis I was expecting a thriller however it was more of a creepy mystery. Very much similar to Lucy Foley's The Guest House the story centers around a group of people on an isolated island but it didn't quite have the desired effect.

Daisy Darker is arriving at her grandmother’s house for her eightieth birthday. It is Halloween, and Seaglass – the crumbling Cornish house perched upon its own tiny private island – is at one with the granite rocks it sits on. The Darker family haven’t all been in the same place for over a decade, and when the tide comes in they’ll be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours. When the tide goes back out, nothing will ever be the same again, because one of them is a killer.

Oh I absolutely loved this book! Feeney always produces a mind twister and this was no different. This was thrilling, gripping and very dark. Throughout, Feeney echoes Agatha Christie which only made a sublime book even better. I did guess the main twist early on but I enjoyed seeing how Feeney left clues throughout the plot. Plus, there were some unexpected twists thrown in too!

Feeney's characters are deliciously dark and I enjoyed learning about them and seeing their darkness revealed one by one. Everything about this just left me wanting more and I raced through this as a result. Seaglass makes for the perfect location as well, a rural beauty spot that means the family are cut off whilst the action takes places, what could be more perfect?!

'Daisy Darker' is absolutely sensational and I am still recovering from reading it. This is dark, thrilling and everything in between. Astonishing.

Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy.

Alice Feeney’s “Daisy Darker” can best be described as a mash-up of Agatha Christie (specifically her story “And Then There Were None”) and Gothic chillers such as “The Turn of the Screw”, with a big dollop of “Dark Shadows”. Essentially it is a “locked room” mystery in the traditional sense.
Most of the members of Daisy’s family, who reunite to celebrate her grandmother’s 80th birthday in her suitably creepy mansion, are enjoyably disagreeable, and there is a satisfying atmosphere of tension created by Feeney’s accomplished writing. The location feels real and believable and you get a vivid picture of a crumbling mansion overlooking the sea.
The story does become fairly predictable later on and the twists won’t tax the brain too hard, but despite this, “Daisy Darker” is a solid, creepy and often chilling tale, perfect for winter nights.

I really liked Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney, but without giving to much away, the story is about Daisy Darker and her dysfunctional family getting together for their grandmothers 80th birthday, she writes childrens novels including one about a fictional Daisy Darker and she was once told that she was going to die when she was 80.
I loved the little rhymes that accompany the story and the characters were deliciously unpleasant in a vintage vibe. It is repetitive in places but that suits the story and I had an inkling of where the novel was headed at least half way through but it didn’t diminish my enjoyment. I think Alice Feeney should write a side line of creepy childrens books as well.

This is a well written book that takes elements from different genres to combine in into a locked house mystery reminiscent of Agatha Christie's "And Then There were none". Even though the plot is a little predictable, with a twist here and there, the author keeps you reading because her characters are interesting, her writing style is easy and she is great at creating an atmosphere. Enjoyable, but don't expect the unexpected if you are an avid reader of mysteries.

Daisy Darker has to be one of my favorite books of the year! The story had me captivated, and I couldn't put it down because I desperately needed to know who was behind it all. I won't mention any spoilers, but I loved the plot twist. Definitely worth the read, especially if you are an Agatha Christie fan

I've always thought that books set in a remote location where everyone is killed off one by one were not for me. It's a tired plot that has been done many times before. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I liked the family dynamic, I liked and disliked the characters, and I found it to be fairly entertaining.

The ending threw it off-kilter and was a little disappointing, but I still enjoyed the rest of the story.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of Daisy. Daisy is incredibly close to her Grandmother. Her grandmother has always believed that she will die in her 80th year so she gathers the family together to celebrate her birthday which happens to be Halloween. Her grandmother lives on an isolated island and once the tide is in it is 8 hours before anyone can leave again. Daisy is not too happy with having to spend that amount of time with her dysfunctional family. That night somebody dies and it can only be someone in the house that has committed the crime.

This is an nod to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. I would say it is quite different to anything else that Alice Feeney has written so far. It is definitely a mystery and not a thriller. This is a book full of unlikeable characters, being an isolated mystery the characters are the focus. I thought that the ending was great and I was kicking myself for not guessing it. It is worth mentioning that I loved the illustrations of the sea which created the illusion of the tide coming in and out which I felt was a nice touch. Although I found it a little slow in places and the characters infuriated me at times I enjoyed the story overall but it was definitely my least favourite by this author.

I generally enjoy Alice Feeney's books, but this was not for me.
Quite slow to get going and the second half followed a structure which became repetitive. I didn't like any of the characters - which I don't think we're meant to but it just meant that I couldn't get invested.
I was disappointed in the ending - a bit of a cop out for me.
Disappointed overall.

This was fantastic! The Darker family are so querky and disfunctional that I just raced through it!
I loved the way each scene was cleverly thought through so there were no plot holes- to me this is a huge thing in a thriller and Feeney does a masterful job. She weaves the twists through the story effortlessly and I loved how 'dark' the family were. This would make a fantastic film.
All the characters were well defined and their personalities just gripped me to the story even more.
I'm still unsure about the ending though. It felt like a bit of a cop out to me, but I can't say more without spoilers!
Feeney has a great talent of writing thrilling books that are unputdownable, and this is no different.

I absolutely loved Daisy Darker! I was so gripped I found it hard to take a break from reading because I desperately wanted to find out who was behind it all. I won't mention any spoilers, but I loved the plot twist at the end. Could not recommend it enough!
