This was a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting book, the memoirs and anecdotes of a dentist which are both entertaining and compassionate as well as being light hearted and humorous.
It follows the life of the author from childhood, explaining how he decided on a career in dentistry through his time in dental practice until his retirement in 2018.
It is not a medical text book but more the insights of a man who has spent a long time listening to his patients and his admiration for their lives and back stories really shines through. Although it is a book about the life of a dentist, it is mostly the patients who are the stars of the show!
It reminded me of the James Herriot books which I loved as a teenager: they were not so much about the treatment of the animals as about the lives of their owners.
In fact this was such an enjoyable read that I whizzed through it in the space of a couple of hours. I thoroughly recommend A Little Book of Impressions to all who enjoy humorous and deftly written memoirs.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.

My thanks to NetGalley and Matador for a copy of “A Little Book of Impressions “ for an honest review.

An interesting insight into the life of a retired dentist. Told, with humour, from the beginnings of his profession life and tales from his 40 year career.
As I’m someone who gets nervous about dental visits , Gerald Feaver sounds like he would have been the perfect empathetic dentist for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
The cover of this book is quite cute and is what grabbed my attention first. This is a quick read with short stories about the author's time in dental school, to post graduate work, running his own practice, his wife range of patients, and government bureaucracy.
I wish I could've had him as my dentist. He definitely sounds like he made the most anxious patients comfortable enough with their dental appointments.
