This excellent debut by Anita Faulkner, is a veritable escape from real life!
Lexie, artistic, but quite frankly rather haphazard, embellishes her CV to get a marketing job at Carrington Paints. She has nowhere to live but her ancient, very colourful camper van, which she parks at Nutgrass Hall, the grand home of the Carrington family and Carrington Paints. There is an obvious spark between Lexie and her boss Beige Ben, however his mother is determined to find him an appropriate lady to marry.
There are many ups and downs along the way, that give this book a bit more than just a romance.
I loved it!

Where do I even begin with this gorgeous book? It is just so beautiful and the language just flows. The story is delightful and the terms used just made me smile. The language was so evocative. This is really the most beautiful book and I adored every single page. Anita is a fantastic author and I look forward to her next book. Although it will certainly take me a while to stop thinking about this one! Thank you so much for allowing me to read this ARC on Netgalley. I highly recommend A Colourful Country Escape to anyone looking for an uplifting read.

Unfortunately I found this totally unbelievable and very disappointing. I couldn’t finish it and would definitely not recommend it.

I loved this story all about mistaken first impressions (think P&P) and finding yourself. Our heroine has been kicked around by life and is trying to get back on our feet, and our hero is being pushed into a life he doesn’t want by his mother whilst trying to get the things he feels he cares most for. It was a fast moving story whilst still retaining its authenticity, and made the reader want to keep coming back for more. The characters were all very likeable and the descriptions were such that you could truly picture yourself there without them getting tiresome. I’d recommend this read

This is a lovely, happy, colourful story that left me smiling! This debut novel by Anita Faulkner is everything I could have wished for! Lexie needs a new job, and a new life after the debacle of her relationship with Drew. She applies for a job at Nutgrass Hall, a stately mansion, and as she rocks up in Penny the bright orange camper van, she fears she may have bitten off more than she can chew, particularly when she meets Ben, her prospective employer. Tall, handsome and very abrupt, she has mixed feelings about him. There is so much to love about this book - the bright, colourful Lexie, Ben who is weighed down by responsibility and a scheming mother who will stop at nothing to get him married off to her choice of bride, laid-back, laconic Cory, Ben’s younger brother and the apple of his mother’s eye, and dear Mrs. Moon, the accident-prone housekeeper who I loved. Add into the mix Sky, Lexie’s younger sister and Grace who becomes a close friend, and the scene is set! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is entertaining and very enjoyable, and is full of very likeable characters. Highly recommended

I enjoyed this book, Lexi and Ben are likeable characters although it wasn’t what I thought it would be. It’s very much a will they won’t they romance with misunderstandings and interfering people.
When Lexi’s long term romance ends in very dramatic fashion she jumps in her vintage camper van to escape. Ending up in a pretty village she promotes her social media skills to get the marketing position with a family run paint company. Clashing immediately with boring ‘beige Ben’ the owner, she surprisingly gets the job.
The story centres on Ben’s life and his manipulating matchmaking mother and Lexi is the breath of fresh air Ben needs. But not if his mother can help it.

I blitzed through this book over the weekend as I just could not get enough. Light and witty I enjoyed every second. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A very witty debut which was full of heart and well-rounded characters. I loved the fact that Lexie was the boss of her own happy ever after. She could have been rescued by Ben and that’s what I thought was going to happen so the fact that I was wrong made me very happy! I could totally visually Nutgrass Hall and the sunny Gloucestershire countryside thanks to the wonderfully descriptive writing. The dialogue was funny and really bought the characters to life. I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to Anita Faulkner’s next book.

This was a brilliant debut novel and was so much more than just a romantic read. The characters were all fabulous and quirky in their own way and the author through their amazing descriptions built up a picture of them in our heads so that I could really visualise how they would look and sound.

I loved how independent and feisty Lexie was and how despite encountering problems along the way she managed to overcome them to achieve so much through sheer grit and determination.

This book had a lovely mixture of humour which was achieved via the imagery and descriptions of events and certain parts had me laughing out loud. A brilliant escapism read which like the title suggests certainly isn’t lacking in colour.

I would love to have a sequel to this book to see how Lexie and bens journey continues and what the future has in store for them.

Love a book that makes you want to escape and this one certainly does. The relationships shown and mentioned are lovely too. I feel all the characters within make it a truly lovely story.

A great debut book from Anita Faulkner and while romantic stories are not my usual genre, I do like occasionally to read them especially if they have some funny moments mixed in and the female character doesn’t lose herself once she meets the the other main character. My two favourites have in this were Sky and Ben’s mother, they added to the story.

The book we all need to escape. Full of interesting, quirky characters, plenty of laughs and a heartwarming story.

To begin with I found this book a bit on the slow side, I nearly gave up but so glad I didn't.
All of a sudden I became enthralled and I just could not put it down. Well done to the author if this is the standard of her first book I want more.
Without giving anything away the main female character will give hope to everyone to go for your dreams. The main male character is very staid and seems to lack a mind of his own but to watch him become his own person is great.
I finished this book with a new outlook on life and knowing if you reach out for what you want with determination you can do it.
It is definitely not your usual love story at all.
It is a love story of many parts and of different kinds of love with family and friends.

Not quite what I expected. A bit hard to read in parts with the dialect. But a lovely story.Lexie needed a job and Ben and Cory needed a media expert. It was funny in parts . Ben and Cory’s mum was a piece of work but you did finally warm to her. I also liked Sky, Lexie’s sister., a great character We do get hung up on money and our past. I loved the. Camper van bits and the charity clothes. A light but enjoyable read. Don’t ever fancy meeting a peacock.
