This was a real emotional ride as Nora discovers herself and that she is a fabulous person with a future, and awesome children. This was a light and witty read that I blasted through in a few hours. The love affair with Leo, the famous actor is central to the script but somehow you fall for all of the characters despite the attention seeking and meddling.

A great, light summer read to take away with you or read in the garden sun.

In a shameful judgement of a book by its cover, I decided I wasn't going to like what I decided would be a silly romcom. But I loved it! It was great to just go with the flow of this romance which has some great laugh out loud observations. It's very much like Nora's made for TV movies, you shouldn't love them - but you do. A quick, happy, summer read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the advanced copy.

I honestly couldn’t remember requesting this book but — once I did —- I read it very quickly last month.

On the face of it, Nora Goes Off Script is a love story. When you get into it, though, it’s not your typical love story. Instead of a twenty-something hopeless romantic, this book follows Nora — an almost divorced woman with two kids. It’s when a movie crew turn up to film the movie based on her own romance, and its demise, that things get interesting.

Despite the fact that I’m several years younger than Nora, my (ongoing) dating journey is proof enough that — like Nora — I have a lot to learn. I liked that Nora felt believable and I throughly enjoyed reading her journey, plus her kids were great as well.

It’s not the most original story, much like the stories Nora writes, but there’s something warm and comfortable about Nora Goes Off Script. It’s a love story we probably know featuring characters we wouldn’t usually expect. Single or settled, we all love a love story and this might just be the one for summer 2022.

This is a lighthearted and fun feel-good read. It is a quick and easy read, predictable in places but still enjoyable.
The storyline is a bit different to the usual rom com as the protagonist Nora is directing the story and the filming of a movie about her marriage and ex husband, in her house A very unusual situation indeed.
I enjoyed reading this book as it was quirky and humorous. Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

Nora is a script writer; the story of her failed marriage is to be made into a Hollywood movie. The male lead asks to stay after the filming is finished. A wonderful romance - I read it from cover to cover., could not wait to see how it ended.

Nora's life has become complicated. She has managed to escape her useless husband.-thank goodness. It's time to get her life back on track. One epic screenplay later and things are looking up. Leo, the hunky star of the play helps Nora in so many ways. A book of friendship, caring and moving forward.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Nora, independent woman, has two lovely children and works hard to evaluate her life, as her husband has left her. Writing romance scripts. One of her scripts is being turned into a film, the filming of which is done at her house. The main star Leo, wants to stay after the filming ends and presses her to agree.

It was a lovely read, the writing was funny, which you could relate to.

I also loved the setting and the tea house, her neighbours, as well as her fabulous friends.

Leo and Nora’s relationship was lovely to read and finally, she learned to love herself,

I highly recommend it.

A "romcom" to me is usually a romance only. I rarely find them genuinely funny. Yet, Nora's sarcastic comments and replies made me laugh out loud throughout the entire book. I liked her character with the dysfunctional marriage, the money problems and the morning run therapy (I know someone with the same description, haha!).

Ghosting is a truly disgusting practice, unacceptable by all means, and there was a point in the book when I thought that there was no reason to justify such behaviour. But the author has managed to convince me otherwise. And I am quite happy with the outcome. :)

Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an Advance Review Copy.

It's a light, warm-hearted, second-chance romance with a twist that left me craving for more pages.

I started reading this book during a trip, and I couldn't stop reading it. The narrative is captivating, and there is something about this story that made me feel so into it that I just kept reading.
Nora Hamilton is a screenwriter who wrote about the end of her marriage, while Leo is a famous Hollywood actor who plays the lead character in the movie. Both characters had a lot of baggage and struggled at the beginning of the book, especially Nora throughout the book. This book has a trope that I love in romance books: the single parent trope. It was extraordinary to see Nora's children - Arthur and Bernadette - and how protective and nurturing she is about them. The story goes through a 12 months timeframe, which I appreciate when it's about romance because I can see a relationship flourishing and being developed step by step. It's a light read, but their personal stories are very real. While Leo is super famous and rich, he is not mentally in a good place, and Nora, despite being fierceness to her children, is healing a long toxic relationship, being a gossip in the town, and having financial struggles. It was interesting to see these two people from different worlds finding middle ground through sunrise and love.

The only thing that bothered me about this book was that it felt like every scene was too short and superficial without ever diving into that particular moment. Despite this, I still had a fantastic time with this story.

I enjoyed this fun read which surprised me after a rather slow start. The book a light romance with a slightly quirky twist, although one could predict the ending I found this didn't matter probably as I was in need of some light relief which this book provided. I found the characters grew on me as I became more engaged with the story apart from the slightly slow start and the usual misunderstandings and lack of communication towards the end. A good light holiday read

Nora writes formulaic romance moives but when she goes off the usual script (pun intented) and writes a movie inspired by her failed marriage and looser of an ex-husband, Hollywood star Leo Vance ends up not only starring that movie but he also moves in with Nora and her two kids for a week.

While a lot of the book is a lot about Nora, trying to find herself again and gaining confidence in the person she is, than about romance I did like that aspect of the book. Nora helping fish-out-the-water Leo navigate a supermarket and explaining how she buys her groceries in a way to save money was endearing. The way Leo was with Nora’s kids, Arthur and Bernadette, also made for cutes scenes.

Overall this book did feel a little more Women’s Fiction than Romance though. While I liked the third-act-conflict, I did expect a little more from people who are 39 and 40-years-old.

My main problem with this book was sadly the writing (and some of the pacing), which I couldn’t really click with for most of the book. I personally missed a certain degree of grounding, Nora’s first-person-POV felt like she was floating through the scenes and places without taking them in. I also missed transition sentences at times, as there were times a scenes just stopped without a proper conclusion and I was left confused for the next paragraphs if we were still in scene A or if we had already moved on to another scene (sometimes involving times jumps as well).

The best part of this book was the last third. It’s where the whole movie star set-up really get’s it’s pay-off and most of the plot takes place.

This book felt like the perfect summer read, as it was light, romantic and the characters and setting were so endearing. The story was charming and I really loved the characters, especially Nora's children. The relationships felt real, and I really enjoyed the book. Fab for readers looking for a light-hearted and witty romance.

Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for sending me this arc. I will be posting this review on my Goodreads and Storygraph accounts, and on Waterstones and Amazon upon publication.

Screen writer Nora writes a movie about the end of her marriage. Being made in to a big budget movie they use her garden room and pay for the priveledge. It helps get her out of debt but a romance starts. The repercussions ripple not just in the family but in the village. Having to meet up again and again for publicity and movie industry events. Will the hurt and pain explode or leave the angers festering inside?

I thought this was a really sweet, light book - perfect for reading over the summer. It actually felt incredibly visual and I could just imagine it as a film or tv series, I loved Nora’s family and her home and her Stars Hollow-esque small town, and adding a handsome film star into the mix was very fun.

Nora Goes Off Script
By Annabel Monaghan

I need to disclose from the start I am not normally a reader of romance novels, so I only normally pick one up if there is a bit more to it than the standard. What appealed to me here was the older, wiser woman who has survived love, has gained a bit of resilience and is navigating a potential new love life with two young children to factor in. How was it going to work? I really enjoyed the first few chapters but then it all started to go downhill with a silly plot and angsty shallow characters.
I like characters with nuance and situations grounded in reality but I suppose this is a fairytale and I'm just a cynic. It probably would suit lovers of romance books.
