I was so excited to start reading this book and I wasn't disappointed Having read Tracy Bloom's last book The Wife Who Got A Life - I wasn't disappointed. The story starts with Shelley in present day about to get married. Reminiscing back to 1999, when she was getting invited to other people's weddings without any site of her own on the horizon. Then she reluctantly attends a wedding where she met Colin who happens to be good looking, nice and extremely rich. Shelly thinks she doesn't stand a chance with him so she doesn't try to impress and just decided to be herself thinking she'll never see him again. Being herself was just what Colin was looking for and so the two decide to get married. Shelley is going to make the most of this and luckily her Aunt Nancy lives in Majorca, so where better to attend a hen weekend except she's going with her mum Peggy who is blunt and says it like it is and disapproves of most things including her own sister and Shelley's Aunt Nancy, Shelley's cousin Rosalind who disapproves of her own mother Aunt Nancy, her own teenager Chloe and Shelley's best friend nd thinks they should be visiting a teapot museum!
The book mostly chronicles the highs and lows and fallouts of the weekend with a few drinks, karaoke, a foam party and thankfully no museum. Needless to say not everyone gets on with everyone and the fallouts are hilarious. This is a real laugh out loud book about female friendship or not as the case may be. It's an escapist read and definitely one to take on your holidays for a bit of pure indulgence.

I'm a big fan of Tracy Bloom's novels and I wasn't disappointed by The Weekend Before the Wedding.

Shelley is preparing for her long-awaited wedding and reflects on her journey to this moment with lots of highs and lows and hilarity!

The hen party was without a doubt the highlight of the story for me - the coming together of these very different women on a real journey with lots of laugh out loud moments!

This is an extremely funny and clever book to read.

The characters are incredibly entertaining and completely relatable and believable.

You notice how each one of them changes (for the better) as you follow their antics on the hen weekend.

There's a strong theme of the importance of family and friends and women supporting each other against a lovely backdrop in Spain and some drama on that hen weekend twenty years ago!

A really fun, funny and easy read.

This book made me laugh and that is a really good start. Absolutely great characters and a great strong story. What more do you want. I loved the interrelationships and the characters. Yes, it is a light book but you know that before you read it and the characters are just great. Highly recommend.

A fun and feel good book following Shelley and her strange hen party as they descend on Majorca for a weekend. Filled with interesting characters, all searching for something in their lives, not realising this weekend would make them face their demons.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

I found this book a standard Romantic with a bit of comedic interludes. Definitely a light hearted and fun book to read, describing the hen weekend when everything goes wrong! but the realisation that sometimes things happen for a good reason.
When Shelley met Colin at a wedding she was a desperate 39 year old who thought no one was interested in her, especially as her friends were all married with kids. This book shows that you should not settle for 2nd best, and luckily with the shenanigans over Shelley's hen weekend, a lot of home truths were brought to light and resolved. Giving us a happy ending which Shelley so rightly deserved.
A light-hearted and fun filled book that will make you smile - with a few laughs along the way. I think this book would be good as a mini fun, as some of the scenes would be hysterical - especially with Great Aunt Nancy dressed up as Ginger Spice ;)

You will not want to put it down

After a harrowing previous read I needed something light, frothy and funny to provide a contrast. This met the criteria in every way. Shelley is introduced on her wedding day, reminiscing about her first hen weekend 20 years previously. We are introduced to her ‘perfect’ fiancée and what turns out to be the hen party from hell. But it is ripe with funny, laugh out loud moments; difficult relationships that need to be addressed and improved and it ends with the bride … To write more would introduce spoilers and I don’t want to do that. Read it and discover for yourself what happens the weekend before the wedding!

Haha this book was so much fun and every time I hear a spice girls song now I will be back in the Flaming Flamingo! Set in 2 parts Shelley with her family and friends 20 years ago and present day. This sounds like the ups and downs of a typical family with all its hidden problems and a matriarch aka Nancy sorting them all out in the end. In Shelleys eyes her life is complicated all she wants is the perfect man and the perfect wedding little does she know they are right in front of her. Shelleys hen do was a hoot with the usual squabbles between the group and the traditional arrest of course 😉 This is a perfect escapist beach read that I will recommend to others for sure. Thank you to Harper Collins and Netgalley for the ARC

I loved reading this book. I liked the layout of how the book went back in time to find out the story.

To me the story wasn't predictable which is really good to find with this sort of genre. I loved the family aspect of the book.

Good fun and one for the beach, The book keeps you reading as you flip flop from the present to the past and what happened on the hen do. Cleverly written to keep you guessing as to who she is about to marry. I laughed out loud at some of the antics and had visions of them all at the foam party!!

Shelley will shortly be marrying a man she met at someone else's wedding 20 years ago when she was 38yo. Back in May 1999, she was at the Priory Hall in Hampshire at the wedding of Claire, a teaching assistant and Hugo William Gifford. Shelley is a teacher and she meets the groom's cousin and an usher there, lurking amongst the fizzy wine and bread rolls.

What a rollercoaster of a hen weekend in Majorca! With funny, sad and unsettling moments and a superb, shining throng of characters each with their own issues, I raced through The Weekend Before the Wedding and did not foresee the end. Great and joyous, light-hearted escapism.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HarperCollins via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

I loved this book. From the beginning I really engaged with all the characters. Although there are plenty of laugh out loud moments, it is actually the melancholy moments that added a richness to this story.

A perfect read for any time of the year, not just the wedding season!

This was a pleasant read with a deeper message about being true to yourself. I enjoyed the book, though I’m not a fan of summing up final chapters. It was a fairly quick read, ideal for a summer

This was a fun comedy with some really colourful characters. This wasnt all about the frivolity though, there was a deeper meaning behind it all.
Family, not settling, finding the real you. Some lovely moments of truth finding.
It's got some really funny moments, a favourite was the spice girls!
It's a good summer holiday, beach read with a happily ever after.
