Roxborough Hall in Norfolk has been in the Mourdant family for years, it is passed down through the generations to the person the present custodian feels deserves it the most. So in present day following the death of Cecily, mother and grandmother the family gather to find out who is the next owner.
Each of the family members feels they deserve the house and not all of them for the right reasons.
I enjoyed the different timelines, enabling the reader to get behind the workings of the family dynamics, on the evening of the opening of the envelopes I felt the same nerves they must have done, I certainly had characters that I definitely didn't want to inherit the hall.
All in all a suspenseful read, a family drama

A juicy, albeit predictable thriller which I read in one sitting in the sun. Great character building, I loved the back and forth but it just didn't grip me in the way I thought it would. I'd still highly recommend it though

I loved this book! The cover and blurb gives you the impression that it's a lot shallower than it actually is. It's actually brilliantly written and the way the plot unfurls to reveal the details leaves you reassessing everything you thought at the start. The characters are so well drawn and complex too - a treat!

What a family! This book is about a family all waiting to see who will be the next owner of their ancestral home, Roxborough Hall in Norfolk.

The current owner Cecily has just died and has to leave it to someone else, but the Mordaunt's have a strange tradition that it is up to the current owner to decide who gets the house next, and it doesn't automatically go to the next in line, i.e. eldest son/daughter, but the one who needs it the most. This is revealed by all the family members coming to the house to have dinner and an envelope will be placed on their plate, each with a message as to why they have or haven't got the house, and one will be revealed as the new owner.

Of course nothing goes to plan and there are blank envelopes, missing envelopes, reappearing envelopes, along with some hidden family secrets that some member of the family know and some don't.

There are twists and turns throughout the book and you don't really know the whole story until the very end. Even though I didn't like a lot of the family, and I felt a bit dissatisfied with how some parts turned out, it was a very entertaining read.

Roxborough Hall, a centuries old mansion, has been passed down the family for generations. However, instead of being passed parent to child, it is passed down to the family member deemed most worthy. After the death of Cecily Mordaunt, who will the house be passed to next?

I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy to read and the plot twists where never obvious and always shocked and surprised me! I do however think the plot could of been taken further but that would of made for a very long book!

I particularly loved reading about the family members and their relationships with one another. The book gave me Desperate Housewives meets Made in Chelsea vibes. With all the glamour and the family drama, I think the book would make a fantastic tv series or film.

A modern story but gave me vibes of another time. Really enjoyable and I read it all in one sitting trying to find out the contents of The Will.
Thank you to Netgalley and Rebecca Reid for the advanced copy of this.

An engaging read with an interesting premise. I enjoyed the characters and how they developed and the shifting time periods.

I started this when I had COVID so it took me a while to get names and relationships straight in my head, but once I did I raced through the book. I wracked my brain wondering who was doing certain things, only to find out I was completely wrong and they were done for a completely different reason.

This will is about members of the family who are about the inherit a house. It tells the storyline of who ends up with the house and why they believe that they deserve it. It is told from may people's points of view so you really get to know all the characters. Even thou it has a few characters the book really does flit really well between them all. It's really well written and enjoyable.

The Will is about a family coming together to find out who has inherited a family estate as part of a generational tradition of passing on the house through letters to the family after the previous owner's funeral. Each Mourdant has a reason they'd like to inherit the house, as well as a reason why they shouldn't. The book switches POVs and timelines seamlessly, allowing us to get a fuller understanding and history of most of the characters. I would highly recommend this book to… anyone with a pulse. Is that you?… This book will stay with you long after you've finished !

What a fabulous read! I was completely absorbed in the ongoings of this family as they wait to hear who will inherit the late mother/grandmother's historical home and the money that will go along with it for its upkeep. I had assumptions of the sort of book it would be after reading the synopsis and though it went in a different way, it did not disappoint and I raced to the finish. It's a wonderful family drama with the intrigue of the details of the will running through it. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This was so entertaining I read it in one sitting and it gave me Gosford Park vibes.

Would make a fabulous Netflix series - my only complaint was wanting more details on the characters back stories, but this would have made the book huge so I understand why not.

Thoroughly enjoyable! Take 3 generations of a seriously dysfunctional family, throw in a stately pile and an inheritance rule that is truly bizzare; on the death of the matriarch the secrets pour out. Teen pregnancy, eating disorders, philandering husbands, abortions and the biggest secret of all that Violet the housekeeper will protect until the time is right.

Wow what a good read this was, nothing like a feuding family who all want to inherit the fortune when the matriarch dies, a very entertaining book .

A great tale of family drama and mystery. Kind of a whodunnit without the murder, every cracker has their secrets which obviously all come out and everyone has motive for the deviousness with The Will.
I kind of wish there had been a murder whodunnit but I really enjoyed the story and characters.

One of the most enjoyable books I’ve read for a while! The characters were all believable but there weren’t too many that you get confused! It kept me wondering right to the end what was going to happen, I was almost sorry to finish reading it! I will definitely read it again and happy recommend it to friends. A really enjoyable story. Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy to read x

I was unsure whether I'd like this or if it'd be too similar to a dozen other thrillers ove read but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised and captivated throughout. Granted, its not reinventing thebwheel but it is still a really engaging and enjoyable story and it kept me glued to the pages until the end. The characters were unique and authentic and the plot kept up a good pace and never let the story drag along. I enjoyed the fact that a lot of the characters had real life problems and it wasn't written as some OTT glam fantasy world where everything is perfect, they're written as rela people woth real problems and that really mae it easy to relate to them and to get caught up in the plot

This is a great book with a devious plot. The old saying 'Where there's a Will, there's a family' is certainly true of this story. The dynamics and motivations of all players offer an insight into the intricacies of the human mind. A game is being played and the selfish and self-important are its major players - who will win...and how..

A minor criticism - please find other descriptions rather than 'long, tanned legs' for women.. Nothing against long-tanned legs,' but it was repetitive and jarring.

I loved the concept ,who wdnt ? Someone dies , a wills read out ,who will get the beloved house
This was a family drama in many ways ,the concept makes u assume so much more so it’s a bit of a shame as u can’t help but think of a mystery and intrigue, maybe a suspicious death though early in it’s clear it’s not and though does have mystery it’s fundamentally a moving and good drama of who gains the most from inheriting this home .
I was very captivated by the characters and their complicated situations and my heart broke at times for two of them .
I enjoyed it and it was good but did feel bit disappointing inted due to my assumptions of the initial set up .
Ty netgalley and publishers for this advanced Copy.

I do like this one, and I was intrigued from the first chapter. I liked the fact it was fast pace and you didn’t know what was going on, all was mysteriously done. Loved all the characters that make the story come alive.
