Loved the pictures and step by step instructions in this book. Makes it easier for little ones to learn the skills. Probably best for ages 2-3.5.

This is an awesome children's book, which teaches children how to practice self-care, by being able to wash themselves, brush their hair, apply lotion and brush their teeth. The photos in the book are great, and my daughter and I had a lot of fun reading through the book together. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the series of books that celebrates children learning to be independent and follow some of the Montessori methods. I love this concept as a way of demonstrating to parents what the preschool philosophy is all about as well as portraying images and non-fiction pages at the level of a young child.

Parents, teachers, and librarians should all have a copy in their library.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to see and review this book. My daughter enjoyed this book. She liked the vibrant colors and all the pictures in this book. She really enjoys when I am reading to her and she can look at pictures along with learing to do things on her own. She likes to do whatever the book I am reading to her. It is a great tool for her to learn as I am reading to her.

I Did It Myself! by Saniyyah Khalilallah is a fantastic Montessori resource for young children aiming to master independent skills for getting ready such as brushing hair and teeth, putting on clothing and footwear, and how to meet someone new or excuse yourself. I loved the easy to follow steps and inclusion of pictures with real children instead of illustrated photos. This useful little book includes a slider for kids to visually show "I did it!" for each skill learned along with tips and guidance for adults at the end of the book.

I will definitely seek out these books once they are published and would recommend for anyone with preschoolers, toddlers, young children seeking more independence, and for children on the spectrum.

Thank you to Storey Publishing and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.

As a mum to a fiercely independent 2-year-old almost 3 who wants to help with EVERYTHING, this book offers great advice on how you can help your child navigate into independent ways of doing things.

I have made a note of the sliding chart at the back to create our own "to do" chart at home

Thanks for letting me read an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

I did it myself book is brilliant. I love the real photos used and the step by step to help children learn how to do a new skill like putting on their coat, getting dressed and cleaning their teeth (to name but a few) all by themselves. Brilliant and a must have for any parent looking to teach their children independence. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I loved the way this book was put together! For educators or parents, you can easily go through the sections with your child and then hang it up to refer to later. I am excited to refer to the meditation section with my own child, as well as the class of preschoolers I work with. Kids are so capable and this book shows that!

This is an educational book about teaching young children (ages 3-5) to perform practical life-skills for themselves. There is a list of twelve skills and step by step photos and written instructions to show the child how to perform each task. There is also a tabbed checklist for the child to note when they’ve completed a new task.

I also impressed that there are notes for the caregiver on how to empower the child to learn these new tasks.

Children love to be helpful and learn to do things by themselves. This book is the perfect tool to help them learn basic life-skills.

The author is a certified Montessori educator with over ten years of experience. She uses Montessori philosophy to teach practical life-skills. She created this book to share this experience with you and your child.

I enjoyed everything about this book and think it is fabulous! It could be added to the child’s home library or could easily incorporated preschool, pre-K, or kindergarten class.

I want to thank Author Saniyyah Khalilallah, Storey Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this Advanced Reader’s Copy. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.

As a going to be soon mother, and a person who likes to having kids around, I found this book "I did it myself " a great book which explains through graphics in simple and easy steps how kids can learn and adapt basic and important habits in their life and they can do these cores by themselves with little guidance in initial learning phase, which not only give them a balance, sense of self confidence in life and how to do their cores on their own.

Saniyyah Khalilallah, you did a great job by creating this book. Showing and explaining through pictures will help kids learn more efficiently and for parents, their teachers or caretakers as well to guide them through this. Likewise you have explained few activities here in this book, parents can get idea to add few more activities according to their culture and environment to make learning cheerful and more easy and fun. I will recommend this book to every parent and teachers who want to help kids develop good habits in the kids.

Thank you to Storey Publishing and Netgalley for this book to read and review.

I Did It Myself by Saniyyah Khalilallah is a tremendous resource for parents, educators, and children alike. As a school social worker, I appreciated the Montessori- informed approach and that the writer is a former teacher herself. The charts and visuals presented have clear images with just enough words for children to learn routines in an age-appropriate and developmentally responsive way as they develop mastery over time. As a parent of a child with a disability who has communication challenges, the impact of these visuals to create routines is appreciated and will provide me with the tools to continue to teach my child to be independent. Thank you for the ARC of this incredible resource!

This is a cute book, and I enjoyed flipping through the pictures just for my own sake. Lots of adorable little ones! I particularly love that there are two different sets of images for hair brushing, showing a girl with straight hair and a girl with tight curls, to set the appropriate expectations for what the process and result should look like in each case.
I'm a little uncertain how this book is supposed to be used, though. For some of the tasks, like making small talk, I could see sitting down and showing the child the steps. But for others, like brushing teeth or getting dressed, I feel like a live demonstration would be much more useful than reading a book. Maybe the book could function as a reminder of the steps in the moment, but I think it would take a particular kind of child to actually go get the book in the appropriate moment. And in some cases I'm not sure the pictures are specific enough for a pre-reader to be able to interpret well.
This could be an excellent book for kids who love books enough to prefer to be taught via a book vs. walked through in person, or who will actually sit down and review the steps independently. It could also be helpful as a guide for *parents* who are stumped on how to break apart these tasks into steps simple enough for little kids to grasp.

I received a free review copy from NetGalley.

I was given an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book so much it is so cute. This book explains in a simple way how to do very important self-care tasks. Beautiful picture illustrationsfor each task plus a paragraph explanation of the picture task.. the tasks they learn can last a lifetime and should aid in the morning rush at home to get out the door. Like all kids I would expect these children would need to be coaxed to keep moving..Yes, I believe this book could be very beneficial if given a chance..in the beginning reading and discussing with your child, even explaining expectations. Then let the kids read it on their own asking questions if they get stuck. Thanks to #NetGalley, publisher, #SaniyyahKhalilah, and #IDidItMyself for the advance copy.. Yes, I will be recommending..

LOVE THIS BOOK! The gentle approach to independence that is the highlight of Montessori is front and center in this book. Seeing children who are confident and proud of their accomplishments is truly inspiring. The tasks are varied and essential, including getting dressed, putting on your coat, meditating, excusing yourself from a task, brushing your teeth, washing your hands, and more! The added addition of the slide bars in the back of the book allows a feeling of accomplishment that is authentic and powerful. There truly aren't enough lovely things to say about this book!

This book title made me smile. It was my daughters favourite phase when she was a toddler. Not what you want to hear when she released her car seat restraints on a motorway.
This book is perfect for preschool and foundation children. A way to teach children how to do simple tasks using pictures and words. From brushes your teeth. To excusing yourself from the table. Can help with manners, development and reading. There is also a way to mark off tasks at the rear of the book.
Loved the fact that the book had pictures of multiracial children so everyone feels included.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC

A great book to help teach young children how to get ready themselves. It has detailed illustrations which aid in assisting the children, as well as clear instructions. A interactive, teaching tool which would be useful for home and daycares.

I Did It Myself! by Saniyyah Khalilallah comprises a selection of self help activities for preschoolers ranging from washing hands to excusing yourself from social situations and meditation. The book is colourful with clear, step by step instructions written for the child. Verbs are in bold so could be used as a teaching point for children and there is a helpful section at the back of the book for adults explaining how to set up the activities in an appropriate way for the child. It is great to see that the photos featured in the book are of children from lots of different multicultural backgrounds too. As I’m in the UK, I was a little distracted by some of the words e.g pants instead of trousers which may confuse some children if they’re not used to that terminology but other than that a great book encouraging children to complete activities for themselves and to be independent!

Reading I Did it Myself with my 3 year old was such a fun experience! Even though he was already familiar with many of the tasks, it initiated conversations about why we do certain things. I recommend it to every parent of a toddler or preschooler!

This book has all the tools to help your toddler and child learn to do activities of daily living (ADLs), learn manners and learn how to make new friends through conversation. I really liked the step-by- step instructions and illustrations accompanying each instruction. It really helps a child focus on each activity. It also teaches about children about personal hygiene .
I would definitely recommend this book .
I think it would make a great addition to any home and school library as well !

I love this practical, diverse, well laid out Montessori material. Montessori's principals of real life, order, and approachable for age level are well laid out in this cute resource book! I love that children can see the steps, see the materials they need, and then replicate them well. I would put this in both my home and my classroom as a Practical Life material.
