I really enjoyed this lovely book, following Jack and Rebecca’s friendship into a will they, won’t they story…….. Jack is a struggling actor who is living in a friends flat for six months, Rebecca lives in the flat opposite and is absolutely determined not to get into a meaningful relationship after her sixteen year relationship with Dan came to a sticky end…..
I also love the supporting cast, particularly the loveable but lonely, Clive who lives in one of the flats downstairs. Enjoyable escapism.

Marketing assistant Rebecca lives in the flat she shared with her ex-boyfriends in Hampstead Heath. Still surrounded by the decor he choose before he upped and left six months later. Closing herself off to loving again is how she has ended up having a secret fling with her American boss.

Moving into Marlowe Court for six months in his friend’s flat, Jack is still finding his way in life. An inspiring actor whose agent doesn’t seem to be doing much to get him gigs. He is forced to rely on his earnings from working in the pub to make ends meet. Having dyslexia makes it harder for him to learn scripts, however, he puts in the additional effort to overcome this – despite his agent telling him not to mention it to any of the casting directors.

Living opposite each other, their paths cross from taking in parcels, helping their elderly neighbour Clive and whilst Jack is completing jobs about the flats. Sharing a love for running they often bump into each other on the heath and find it easy to talk. An incident at the flats has them drawing closer, however, neither of them had thoughts of a happily ever after, closed off to the prospect of love. Although they find themselves reaching out and talking about key moments in their lives – can love form from this neighbourly friendship?

quick and charming! it's almost insanely low stakes, no real external conflict beyond whether or not the leads are getting together, even in their professional lives. it's simple. can't determine whether it's a good or bad thing
