Katy is a PA in the City of London working for stereotypical misogynist men. Because of her background, she doesn't want to behave or dress in the expected ways in order to make a career. She takes a new job with the charismatic Riley, who owns a tech company with a non-conformist loyal and dedicated workforce. Riley eases Katy out of her comfort zone in terms of her capabilities, and becomes a role model and mentor.
Both women have traumas in their pasts, and these all come to a head during a trip to a conference in Las Vegas.
Some parts of the story are a bit improbable, but the story is original and the characters are all quirky and likeable in a low-key way. An enjoyable read, with a good writing style.

I can't say no to a sapphic romance, and I'm so glad I decided to check this one out! Slow burn office romance, written in a style that is immediately engaging.

Katy works in the city as PA to Giles, who is a CEO. When Giles decides to move on, his replacement has no use for Katy so she is made redundant. Despite sending out her CV to numerous companies, she is unable to find alternative employment. As a last resort she applies for a role that she is very under qualified for. After a shaky interview with Riley, the CEO of Byrsa, she is offered the job and soon settles in. It becomes more than a job to Katy, she is slowly falling for Riley, though she has no idea of the secrets surrounding her and the company.

Having read the reviews I feel I am very much in the minority here, but have to give my honest review.

The story was slow and laboured for the first half of the book, so much so that I did consider it being a DNF. When it reached the big reveal, it was very long winded considering Riley was explaining all whilst sitting on a bathroom floor, she needed somewhere more comfy to get all that off her chest!

The whole of the Las Vegas scenario was strange - off to do a rescue, time is of the essence, and three saviours fell asleep in the back of the car?? And they out ran a police car, two right turns and that was it? I love a thriller as much as anyone, but not to these lengths.

Sorry, not a book a would recommend.

Thank you NetGalley.

A gripping, well-paced story comprising both a sapphic office romance and a twisty thriller. The characters were interesting and diverse, and the quality of writing was above average for both the romance and thriller genres. I enjoyed this and read it in one sitting.

Such a compelling book. It is a bit of a slow burner at first, but definitely worth hanging on in there- I really enjoyed it.

Extra points for disabled representation and Friends references.

Not a bad read but more romance then thriller for me so it was a quick read and was enjoyable but a little too predictable for me

The Manager is a fast-paced, ultra chic story of a young woman's experiences in the City, working for her enigmatic, uber-successful manager, a woman who seemingly has everything Katy ever dreamed of. Except, nothing is as it seems... I really enjoyed this book, it reminded me a bit of Colleen Hoover's style, thrilling and readable.

i am pleasantly surprised by this book!

based on the cover and the description, i honestly thought it would be more suspense/thriller, but it's actually more office romance with social commentary! i like it! even though i've never read anything like this before (not that i read a lot of this genre) but i like to think that i can still recognize a well-written book. it took a while for me to get used to the writing, but i really liked it. the plot and the romance were evenly paced and well-developed, and there were times when my heart felt like it would jump out my chest from the tension (especially when things started escalating). i also really like the tone and the atmosphere, because it felt like i've been living in London my entire life even though i've never been there in real life.

anyway, this is more than just a sapphic boss-secretary romance— but i would recommend this to everybody who enjoys a nice lesbian office romance!

Katy is left go from her current job and on a drunk impulse applies to be an assistant for a CEO. She goes to her job expecting a man but is pleasantly surprised to meet Riley.

This is a slow burn workplace sapphic romance with plenty of rep without giving spoilers.

The start of this book really drew me in and I was very intrigued as to what was coming next. The many plot twists and interesting surprises kept me guessing throughout the book. I really enjoyed the writing style and saw no problems with it.

My only complaint is that I thought the ending moved quite quickly but other than that i found all other solutions quite satisfying
