I’ve read several of Carolyn Arnold’s books, and the more I read, the more I enjoy them. Girl on the Run is the eleventh book in the Madison Knight series. I haven’t read all of the books in this series, but they each stand alone.

It find it interesting that I like this series because Madison is not my favorite protagonist. I like when characters are flawed because they’re more realistic, but Madison tends to be a little too aggressive and even rude, and her partner, Terry, often has to smooth things over. She’s also obsessed with the mob and although they often have a part in their cases, she tends to want to pursue that avenue first. Despite Madison’s flaws, she’s fiercely independent and talented and gets the case solved.

I recommend this exciting police procedural especially if you enjoy murder mysteries with many suspects and a plot twist or two.

Detective Madison Knight is tenacious about solving her cases and no one is going to stand in her way, not even her boss. The latest case for her and her partner, Detective Terry Grant, involves two murdered women and another woman who was shot at the local train station. But as they start investigating, her intuition tells her there is more to the case.

Madison is a force to be reckoned with, especially when she feels strongly about what is going on in the case. I loved the relationship between her and Terry. Since this is the first book in the series that I've read, I was left wondering at what has happened in the past between her and her boss. With all the different threads in the story, you want to see what will happen next.

Three women are shot in a coffee shop in a train station. While investigating, Detective Madison Knight becomes convinced that one of the victims is a friend of hers from college who disappeared fifteen years ago. There are a number of suspects as the complex mystery is unraveled. What happened to the enigmatic girl with the orange backpack who may have triggered the incident and what does it all have to do with Madison’s history with the Russian mob?

This is the eleventh in the Detective Madison Knight series. Although I have read other works by Carolyn Arnold, this is my first in this series and it worked well as a stand alone.

Madison isn’t the most likable character, but she is good at her job. She is tenacious, a bit impulsive, and has a strong sense of justice and loyalty.

This was a fast, engrossing read, sure to please fans of police procedurals and mysteries.

Thanks to #netgalley and @HibbertStiles for the DRC

Girl on the Run is fast paced and full of action. A terrible shooting at a train station has taken out some female victims. Madison and her partner Terry have to sift through the clues to figure out who was responsible for the crime. The plot has a sinister twist as it involves the Russian mob. Several scenes are heart stopping and I kept reading quickly to see where the investigation would go next.
Reading this book was better than watching a movie thriller.

Madison’s character is extremely well-written and realistic. She encompasses what all women should strive to become—an independent thinker, strong-willed, dedicated, and hardworking! Fabulous characters, great storyline. I kept turning the pages instead of turning off the light!

Monday morning, and before her caffeine fix of the day, Detective Madison Knight rushes to a local train station where there has been a shooting. 2 women dead, 1 wounded, all because of a girl with orange backpack helping herself to some food from the coffee place cooler? Did the women know each other, is this random, drugs, …?
Amazing twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.
This is book 11 and the 1st one I read in the series, it took me a bit to warm up to Madison, but I think I am missing some pieces that makes her the person she is, so back to book 1 I should go!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hibbert & Stiles Publishing Inc. for an early read.

This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. It is a can't put down mystery...what will happen and when? The protagonist is intriguing...the whole book is a story written by a talented author...the murders...were they planned? Were they just by happenstance? What was the motive? Who did it? Are the husbands guilty? The wives? Where can one ever be safe? A coffee shop? Really? I look forward to more books by this author. Don't miss this one.

I’d like to thank Hibbert & Stiles Publishing Inc and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Girl On The Run’, a Detective Madison Knight Mystery written by Carolyn Arnold, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Detective Madison Knight sees people running, she drops everything and runs towards Liberty Station where a gunman is shooting at people queueing at ‘Just Beans’ coffee shop. The gunman disappears leaving two women dead and one injured. One of the dead women looks very similar to a friend of Madison’s who went missing fifteen years ago and as she questions family and friends of the women Madison starts to think that the Russian Mafia she was investigating recently could be involved.

‘Girl On The Run’ is a gripping thriller where Detectives Madison Knight and her partner Terry Grant are investigating what appears to be two separate crimes, that Madison thinks could be connected but Terry isn’t so sure. I like the character of Madison who’s tough, opinionated, lives for her job, and won’t let anything or anyone stop her from getting results, still finding time for her fiancé Troy Matthews and dog Hershey, but I wish she wasn’t quite so aggressive to those she works with. The plot is exciting with intrigue, drama, suspense, and heart-in-the-mouth twists and turns, making it a very readable and enjoyable thriller.

My thanks to Carolyn and NetGalley for allowing me to read Girl on the Run before the publication date.
In the latest of the Detective Madison Knight series, Madison is in the bad books with many of her colleagues, having waged war on corrupt cops. In her private life, she is dealing with a variety of emotions after a miscarriage.

Attending an incident in the local train station where 2 women were shot dead and another injured, she is shocked to see that one of the deceased looks like a friend who had disappeared 15 years earlier, but her documents are in a different name.
The situation is aggravated for Madison when she discovers that one of the deceased women was pregnant.
Witnesses describe how the women had been in the Just Beans queue when a teenage girl came in and stole from a fridge.

The question which Madison has to resolve is whether this was a random shooting or was one of the women targeted by the shooter and why.
Her investigation will open up dangerous links to drug trafficking and the Russian mafia.
In her usual headstrong manner, Madison tackles the problems head on whilst her partner, Detective Terry Grant, tries to take a more balanced approach.

There are many twists and turns in the story and lots of secrets will be revealed.

This is a fast paced, action packed thriller/mystery that I couldn't put down.
Detective Madison Knight is getting coffee when she is drawn to a nearby shooting. As she investigates, she realizes that one of the victims resembles her college friend, Courtney, who disappeared 15 years ago. But, she also sees connections to a previous case she worked involving the mob, and drug trafficking. Can all this be interrelated, and how? Lots of suspects, few motives, and another body. Things are moving fast and Madison and her partner, Terry, are trying to put all the pieces together before anyone else gets hurt.
Loved the plot, the characters, and the ever changing suspect list. Highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Detective Madison Knight is getting a morning coffee when there is a shooting at a nearby train station. One of the dead women looks like a friend of Madison’s who disappeared fifteen years ago. While investigating both the shooting and if the victim is the woman from her past, Madison learns a young girl is also missing and may be on the run from whoever did the shooting. Evidence is found of ties to the Russian mob that she has been chasing for awhile and can’t let go of, and the suspect in the shooting is found murdered. Are all these things tied to the shooting, or is it several different cases. Can all of this be tied up before there are more killings….

Girl on the Run was not my favorite of the Madison series by Carolyn Arnold. However, the story of Madison's friend missing for years read well and was believable. The ending wrapped up too quickly, and the culprit getting the upper hand on Madison's partner was a stretch.

Normally, I can get through a Carolyn Arnold book in a day or two. However, it took me days to get through 30% of Girl on the Run. I had difficulty connecting to Madison, and her abrasiveness got on my nerves. I understand she was dealing with a personal issue (the loss of her baby), but the bickering between her and Terry (her coworker) and her single-track mind on the crime that occurred was frustrating to read and off-putting. It got boring with her punching or wanting to hit her partner's shoulder, and her partner telling her she could have gone easier when talking to victims or suspects was repetitive. I usually like the main character, Madison. But in this book, she seems a bit harsher and more confrontational, which is a bit off-putting in reading the story. I wish Madison would have had her breakdown earlier than 78% in the book. It would have made me like her more.

Overall, an okay read. I will read more as I normally like this series and Carolyn Arnold's writing. This one just wasn't my favorite.

Non stop action from the get go. Dt. Knight is waiting for coffee, shore on time hoping the line will hurry up and move. Nearby at the train station is a mass shooting . Two dead one wounded and the tale of a young girl. There is so much more to this plot, twist, turns and the mob once again is involved. Dt. Knight is still dealing with fall out from crooked cops and the loss of her baby. Her baby no one knew about. Talk about layers! Through it all I had a hard time liking her. I don't particularly care for her as a person in previous books, but she is a straight shooter and the author does a fabulous job of hooking you on the plot. I would want Dt Knight looking into any issue for me and mine. Don't have to like her to appreciate the job she does. Her partner (Terry) brought the calmness that was so needed. If you love police procedural and growth in a character this is the book for you. Thank you Carolyn Arnold, Hibbert & Stiles Publishing Inc, and NetGalley for the arc. All thoughts an opinions are my own.

This story has you guessing right from the start. It begins with a girl who has run and then discovers that she has been followed and then captured. The story then follows with Madison waiting to get a cofee when a call comes in of shots fired at the train station. When she arrives she discovers two people killed and one person injured. At 1st it seems like a simple shooting because of the three women complaining about a girl who had stolen some food. Based on information that Madison received at the scene she believed that drugs were involved. As the investigation went on further, the shooter was discovered dead and all signs led to the Russian mob. This confirmed what Madison believed.

The question that Madison had in her head was why the Russian's assassin left such a trail. It also told Madison the the girl involved in the shooting was in trouble and needed help or she would be killed. Meanwhile as the shooting investigation continued and after they found the killer dead, they still needed to find a motive for the killing. In addition, Madison had a hunch of what really this was all about.

To discover who was behind the shooting, why the killing, how Madison and her partner followed the clues and what Madison's hunch was plus what it revealed, then you need to read this story.

4 stars for a fast paced police procedural. Detective Madison Knight is called to the scene of a mass shooting. She pursues the case relentlessly. She is abrupt and unnecessarily abrasive towards co workers and witnesses. She does solve the case. This is book 11 in the series and I have only previously read book 1 in the series. Many things happened to Madison in between. I recommend reading this series in order.

This is another winner in the Detective Madison Knight series. Knight is called to the scene of a fatal shooting at a train station where there are least two dead and several injured. There does not seem to be any apparent motive, nor any relation among the victims to one another. If you read this series, you know that Detective Knight is like a dog with a bone when she gets started investigating. She is a tough, strong and capable woman who wants justice and quite frankly revenge on the Russian mafia. She also has a soft side for the downtrodden. The books in this series are addictive to people like myself who love mysteries and police procedurals. There is suspense, intrigue, action and gritty investigation techniques that will keep you on your toes as you try to solve the mystery along with Detective Knight and her team. You may think you have it figured out, and then the author will take you down another rabbit hole which leaves you scratching your head! If you like a great mystery and thriller, you will love this one. Find a chair once you start because you will not want to stop until you finish the last page! Hang on for the ride of your life through lies and betrayal, the criminal underworld, police investigations and "ghostly" sightings (not literal ghosts, but you will understand when you read it)! Take a ride on the Detective Madison Knight Express Train!!

In this latest installment of the Detective Madison Knight series, Arnold crafts a wonderfully suspenseful story featuring one of my favorite literary characters. A "random" shooting at a train station has Madison and her partner struggling to solve a crime that has too many unknowns. In her typical style, Madison is all-in with the case that continues to leave dead bodies for her to find. She is convinced that the mystery involves drugs and perhaps the Russian mafia that she is constantly seeking to take down. When this personal vendetta hits too close to home, will she continue the quest to stop an unstoppable force or will she prioritize her relationship and the safety of her loved ones? It's a great read.
