My Turn appealed to me mainly because of the adorable cover !! Yes, I know. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I usually don’t but couldn’t resist requesting this on NG. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t resonate with Nina or Harrison but I did enjoy reading more about Harrison than Nina.

This was a fun, quick read.
The best part of the book were the characters. Nina Bryant is literary agent that achieved great success in spite of her small town upbringing. She always had the intention to leave town, but became even more determined to do so when her prom date, Harrison McCall, stood her up. The story jumps fifteen years into the future when said prom date is now a regular part of her life. Her best friend is getting married and Harrison is the grooms best friend. The story is told from dual points of view, which gives us insight to the feelings of both characters. We know from the very beginning that the events from prom were not completely within Harrison’s control and he regrets the entire ordeal. However, this one event has forever altered Nina’s perception of relationships. This is where I found the storyline a little weak. I have trouble buying into this type of story line, where something like this makes the character engage in only casual relationships for 15 years a never attempts anything more because they are afraid of disappointment - I get heartbreak, but it’s a bit much. Harrison continually tries to make amends, but all efforts are brushed aside. The side characters are the best part. Addie is the best friend we all wish we could have. There is a good representation of diversity with a Down syndrome character, Owen (Addie’s brother), and a nonverbal autistic character, Maddie. The story could have done without the drag queen - that felt like it was randomly thrown in as an after thought. Had it been brought into the story earlier, it may have felt more natural.
The story went back and forth between past and present. This gave a good insight into the motives and inner workings of the main characters. However, I did find it necessary to back track to reorient myself. There was an instant where we were in a hospital, but then the narrator says something about the person in her home - so there were minor issues with continuity. The plot was insane, with several crazy events taking place, making it a little unbelievable. I can understand a few of these things happening, but all of it to one person? There was a rather complex web of manipulation of the main characters by on of the side characters. The author did a good job of weaving everything together without leaving any major plot holes.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, fun read, especially if you enjoy a wild ride.

In the beginning of the book Nina is asked to Prom buy cool, popular guy, Harrison. However, due to his family expectations the day of prom another date is at his house and his parents expect him to take her and he does not argue, leaving Nina stood up. Fast forward years later Nina and Harrison are both successful professionals who find themselves in a wedding together of their friends. Nina and Harrison have a back and forth will they won’t they relationship in person that keeps having wrenches thrown in it. The book is told primarily from two POV’s both Nina’s and Harrison’s.

Without giving too much away there were parts of this book that were quite similar to the movie You’ve Got Mail, and I quite enjoyed that.

I didn’t love Nina’s relationship with food where she sees everything that isn’t healthy as “bad” and I have mixed feelings on the reveal of Harrison’s dad’s personal life on the end, as I don’t feel that’s something a person should be embarrassed by despite the character being unlikable.

Parts of this book were a bit over the top and unbelievable but overall it was a really fun read with some sweet moments. I enjoyed Nina’s friends and family (especially grammy) quite a bit. And while a bit predictable the grand gesture did make me smile.

Overall, this was a fun romantic comedy with some unexpected plot twists.

i had high hopes for this book because of its cute illustrated cover and the synopsis with potential second chance romance (which is one of my favourite trope) was calling for me. i was halfway through my reading that i realised the book is not for me. it stared off well but the author dragged the story too much with unnecessary parts.

thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I'm a bit disappointed by this book, to be honest. The premise sounded really cute, and I was intrigued when reading it, but the writing itself feels a little immature and I'm not sure about the editing (the very first paragraph has a sentence where "in fact" is repeated in the same sentence) and writing style used in this - two first-person POVs, written in present tense, while sort of addressing the reader feels kind of like TV teen narration. Some of the story elements also feel kind of outdated and overused - especially the 'not like other girls' trope.

Overall it's not bad, but the writing in general needs some development.

Let’s just say this book was…. interesting? I get what the author was trying to do with the dual POV but it just was not giving what it was supposed to give. I feel like the chapters were too short and yes the did help the story line progress but also didn’t do much. The writing felt like someone was just putting their thoughts on to a page, adding dialogue and calling it a day. There wasn’t much substance to any of the characters which kinda made me sad. I really hoped that I was gonna love this book but it turned out to not be my favorite. With some more tweaks to the characters and story line I feel like it could really work well because the premise it great just the execution of it was not.

2.5 stars

When they were 17, Harrison asked Nina to prom, but he never showed to pick her up. 15 years later, they are back in each other's lives, their best friends getting married, and Harrison's betrayl has haunted Nina for years. Harrison sets about trying to win Nina over and make amends, but his meddling family get in the way... again. Can Nina ever forgive him and learn to trust?

I went back and forth with this one. A few things I enjoyed: how sweet Harrison was; how independent Nina was; Autistic & Down syndrome representation; the group of characters around Nina from her Grammy to her assistant, Lillie and her best friend Addie; how I was intrigued to keep reading as different plot lines were uncovered.

Some things I wasn't crazy about: at times I had to suspend belief because there were some jaw dropping plot twists that, put together, felt a bit OTT; there were some mild fat phobic comments that didn't sit well with me; Nina's lack of trust and "poor me" attitude got a little tiresome; I'd forgotten about the whole online dating thing because it kind of disappeared and then popped up again randomly.

Overall, it was a nice story with some really endearing characters that moved along well and definitely kept me turning the pages!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! It has a rhythm and never slows down, it keeps a pace when always is happening things.

We follow Nina and Harrison, who have known each other since they were kids, they even were sort of sweethearts until one day he left her with the broken heart, but it doesn't matter how hard the try to avoid the other, they always run into the other.

It's a nice and realistic book about how love can't be always easy.

My Turn is the sequel of Allison Jones first novel which traces the story of Jameson and Addie. In the sequel MY TURN, this is the story of Nina and Harrison who are friends with Addie and Jameson respectively. Nina can't forget the day Harrison stood her up on their prom night and though universe keeps making them meet each other,Nina hasn't been able to forgive him. Harrison has never felt attracted to a girl to the seriousness he was attracted to Nina but because of the pressure of his parents he had to go out with someone else. Cut to present, Nina is running a successful business in New York and Harrison is also working in the same city and their best friends Addie & Jameson are getting married. The author makes us time travel through various phases and stages of both Nina and Harrison and when they meet each other.I like how the author sensitively writes about the people with a disability
Nina has a family that she has made with her friends in New York and her hometown and she is ever so grateful for them.
I really enjoyed the inhibitions that is portrayed in both the characters of Nina and Harrison. Nina has hidden talents and though she puts a front that doesn't diminish her self-awareness that she possesses and is one of her strong points.
There is so much happening and the events and the bonding of friends and family of Nina truly shows you how much she does justice to the book title MY TURN.
I recommend both the books by the author. Her Turn and My Turn.Addie, Jameson,Nina and Harrison give you a good time.

My Turn tells the story of Nina and Harrison. They've had a love and hate relationship since they were kids. Even if they try to stay away, fate seems to want to bring them together at all costs. This doesn't mean they have it easy. On the contrary, Nina and Harrison's lives are pretty messy and at some point they kinda turn into soap operas. Will they ever get the chance to be together peacefully?

Overall, it was an enjoyable easy read.
The story really is eventful. That means you can't get bored while reading it.
However, to me, the story is maybe a little bit too fast-paced. As I read it, I would have liked to be able to slow down and delve into characters' souls (maybe with the help of interior monologues and quiet reflection moments) so that I could understand them better and feel connected to them.
Anyway,  if you're looking for a simple fun story, this is the right book for you.

I love second chance romances and this book definitely lived up to my expectations. It was cute sweet and a little bit sexy!

Firstly, the book cover is really cute and the synopsis is really interesting and I just need to have it. The book has really short chapters which were told from two POV both Nina and Harrison and also jump from one timeline to another. I like the story, there were parts in the book that was over the top but I don’t mind it. I can’t stand the main character Nina though. It is understandable why she put walls and all but there’s so much more to her that I don’t like. I feel like there was no character development even till the end. The secondary characters are great that balances Nina’s unlikeable character. It wasn’t as romantic or comedic as I thought it would be but I still think it’s a good read.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy via NetGalley in return for sharing my thoughts on this book. Thanks to the author and publisher for this opportunity!

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.

Hmmmm this story isn’t bad. I did feel like some of the plots dragged on for longer than needed. Also there were points when I’m reading as if the characters are playing out the story and then halfway through the book, the characters are telling me parts of the story. That was a little confusing for me because the author did not write the entire story out as such. I did appreciate being able to read the story from each of the characters perspective.

It was hard for me to believe that Nina had trust issues all from the prom night when Harrison stood her up. The way she confronted him made me think things would’ve turned out otherwise for her. I wish the sole basis of the story wasn’t about how she couldn’t trust men all from that one night.

Towards the end when they were trying to figure out where Harrison’s dad was got a little weird. I felt like that plot was a bit dramatic for my taste. It was an unnecessary detail that Harrison’s dad likes to dress in drag, to me it didn’t really go with the flow of the story.

Not totally bad, but there are some areas that could have been written or played out another way.

My turn is a good coming to age story that flips easily between Nina and Harrison's storyline. Which I loved. Because you don't always get to see the story play out from two totally different perspectives.

Nina Bryant has it all, she is successful, gorgeous and has a life everyone wants. Well that's what she wants everyone to believe anyway. But looks can be deceiving and and what looks like the perfect life on the surface can look very different underneath.

When Harrison McCall comes back into Nina's life she is reminded of mistakes she made in her past and not only that but Addie Nina's best friend is marrying Harrison's best friend and so they have to spend more time together than either of them would like. But could this be the second chance that they are looking for.

Not forgetting the amazing drag queen with a gambling problem this book has a fantastic cast. This book will have you laughing and smiling with joy.

Thank you NetGalley & BooksGoSocial for the eArc of My Turn.

My Turn drew my attention due to the adorable cover, and because I was in the mood for a cute, easy romance. However, this book fell short for me in many aspects, hence the low rating. Although I thought about DNF'ing multiple times, I completed the novel from start to finish.

The characters felt two-dimensional and underdeveloped. This was likely due to the large cast of characters, which resulted in me constantly mixing up names and getting confused. I never felt the connection between Harrison and Nina, even from the beginning (and I did not feel as though the prom incident was as big an issue as Nina was making it). It felt as though the author was trying to convince me of their chemistry, but all I got was that she thought he was hot & a good kisser. Nina's character was also extremely irrational at times, and she would frequently perform actions that didn't match her description. I did enjoy the moments with Grammy, but I was not able to invest myself into the lives of the main characters.

I also had qualms with the writing style that the author chose to use. While I usually enjoy a dual or multi-perspective novel, I found the decision to directly address the reader as jarring and cringey. I assume breaking the fourth wall was intended to be a comedic effect, but I didn't need to be told what I should be thinking at particular moments. Not to mention I caught a few grammar and spelling issues within the text.

Unfortunately, I did not like this book. It began to feel like a chore to read, and as I stated before, I almost DNF'd it multiple times. I wish the author luck in future writing endeavors, but this story was just not for me.

I had definitely had high hopes for this book after reading the synopsis but it just fell short on everything I wanted it to be.

I have gotten into this mood of reading a bunch of rom-com's and this is one fits that genre perfectly! It's hard to not get attached to these characters as they go through their chaotic lives. There was so much going on in the book that sometimes I had to re-read what was going on and follow all of the drama consuming their lives.

synopsis and cover are great, the words and book just failed to me. i didn't get very far in but the story just wasn't there and wasn't captivating me

I really had high hopes for this book. I mean, stood up at prom and then be forced to be friends 15 years later?- Recipe for some great heated snippy moments. Some grand gesture to win back her heart, SOMETHING. But no.
We got a little snip here and a little snip there- It was all a little too vague, too short, and too whiny. The most annoying part- what probably would have been the best scene to set up how they feel about each other as adults, was their trip to Italy- and we didn't get invited! Just a few casual mentions.
It made the relationship between Nina and Harrison kind of boring. I wasn't invested, I didn't really care if they got together in the end.
