This book was alright. The plot was all over the place and the twist came out of nowhere. Nina was holding a grudge for so long and it didn’t really add to her character development. The writing and the plot were choppy with the switching between Nina and Harrison happening every few pages. The plot had the potential to be great, but the writing was tough to get through.

I really liked the idea of this book! Nina who was hurt by Harrison in high school, runs into him again after college. They end up in the same friend group and two of their friends are about to get married. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish this book. It was a little too dramatic and overplayed for me. Nina hates Harrison way too hard for something that would definitely hurt, but you'd think you could get over after 15 years. Harrison feels too in love with Nina even though he obviously barely cared about her in high school, and again, should be able to move on from 15 years later. Finally there were typos and I just can't quite get past those! All in all, it was a good idea for a plot but not well delivered.

My Turn follows Nina Bryant, a girl from a small town that rules in the big city. She left behind her small town years ago when her high school crush (Harrison) broke her heart. She turned that pained into power and become the best version of herself. He best friends wedding is coming up and Jane is the MoH. Can you guess her surprise when she is introduced to the grooms best friend, and it’s Harrison?

Forced interaction between two people who have a burning hidden love for each other was the trope that this book was going for.
But I found it to filled with hundreds of other tropes. It was just overall disappointing for me.

The story of Nina and Harrison. She has never got over how he treated her years ago. Now their best friends are getting married they are forced to spend more time together, so will this be a second chance for them? Someone is trying to keep them apart, but will Harrison let Nina walk away again?

A great read - I hope there will be more books in this series.

Okay so this was a good book story-wise even if there's a ton of things going wrong in Nina's life. Personally, I felt like despite being described as a super successful literary agent (underlined by the fact that she has a 2-bedroom in NYC and also has an assistant of her own), she comes across has not really having a hold on her life. Except for her professional life, everything else feels orchestrated to herself as well. Maybe if we would have a wider glimpse into her work, then this imbalance wouldn't be this glaring.

Another contrasting thing about Nina was this: while she's described as independent, successful and everything great, she wasn't exactly doing a lot in terms of getting her life back on track when it was falling apart, If there weren't a bunch of friends in her life that dropped everything to help, then she wouldn't have been able to cope at all. I relate to the fact that it is difficult to expressly ask for help, but very honestly, she had all the help even without asking.

What felt new in this book was the way Nina and Harrison spoke to us readers sometimes while narrating. The dual perspective was definitely appreciated considering both these characters are stubborn. The friend group and Nina's Grammy are a bunch of well-written, loyal-to-Nina characters.

Apart from a few errors here and there, this book was an easy read and felt like a movie in which everything magically sorts itself out in the end. No complaints there.

Thank you for the ARC from BooksGoSocial in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't really bond with the main characters, in particular Nina. I understand the plot line of being forced to spend time together when one or both hate each other (and I do find it hilarious when done well). However, this book was a concoction of plot lines that made t a bit too much.
It wasn't the worst book I've ever read but it did take me a while and a lot of effort to finish it.

DNF at 44%.

I pushed and pushed and pushed to get to the 44% mark. I really wanted to make it to at least halfway, but it really was doomed way before that.

My Turn features Nina, a successful business woman with a "rough" past, and Harrison, the man who ruined her prom fifteen years ago. When their best friends get married, they are forced to spend a lot of time together.

Let's start with Nina. I hate her. She is... so annoying. I don't even know how to describe it. You may be wondering why I put quotation marks around the word 'rough' in the previous paragraph. That is because all we know about Nina's past is that she got ditched at prom by Harrison. Whoop-de-doo. I mean, yes, it's a horrible thing that happened but she played it out like a horrible secret and the event that changed her from a shy, geeky girl to a woman who is way too anal about her eating choices.

Harrison is also just really really annoying. But I don't feel nearly as strongly about him as I do about Nina so I'm going to move on to the cringy writing. First of all, at the beginning, the book time jumps about four different times and it gets really confusing. And then, not to mention, every other line makes it seem like you would find this book on Wattpad in 2014, when everything was even cringier than it is now. The line that did it for me? "Did your vajajay sing? Mine has a whole playlist."
Immediately no. IMMEDIATELY no. All in all, please just spare yourself.

where do I start? first and for most I liked this book just as much as I liked the hating game, and for context I hated the hating game.

The book started out on an okay note and had me interested then soon after became super confusing, I couldn’t really keep up with what was actually going on with the plot because there was at least four-five different plots going on at once. Along with there being multiple plots I couldn’t keep straight the tropes were also all over the place. I had a lot of hope for this book going into it but it was just a let down. When I was around 50% done with the book my interest was just completely gone. I forced myself to finish this book and not dnf it. I feel like this book had lots of potential and the author has lots of potential for further books. The writing was okay and has lots of potential going forward but the worst part about this book and why I’m rating it so low is because the plot was everywhere. I also didn’t like the main characters that much. I found Nina kind of annoying and didn’t relate to her at all.

Had high hopes but a bit disappointed. It started off well, but soon got chaotic. There was a lot happening. Too many plots. Too many tropes. The story had a lot of unnecessary parts, which need not be there. I soon lost interest in the story, and read it only cause I wanted it to be over with.

The author's writing style has a lot of potential but needed a bit of clarity on the story.

This book was incredibly silly. There were about four different tropes/plots mixed up here. There was the rich guy in a small town who is the BMOC in their high school who falls for the shy, nerdy girl, but then breaks her heart until they meet years later as adults. Cue the second-chance plot. And just by coincidence their best friends are getting married. So add in the trope of wedding tensions between the maid of honor and best man. Add in the wicked father and a Las Vegas marriage that may or may not have been annulled. And the crazy ex who claims to be pregnant. It’s all totally an unbelievable and silly cartoon.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I hate to be that person but… this books is written like a 2012 Wattpad story and not in a good way. There was just to much going away n and I just could not get into it.

There was just too much going on in this book: girl raised by grandma, girl loves boy who stood her up at prom, friends with Down Syndrome and autism, secret marriage, blackmail, FBI, gay friend, closeted drag queen father, and much more. It was chaotic.

Expected it to be a typical romance but the characters have me completely gushing. I loved the chemistry between them and was interested in their lives, which I find is rare in some romance books nowadays.

"My Turn" by Allison Jones

Rating: 4/5 🌟
Release Date: March 2022

I received this ARC copy via #netgalley

I have never read one of Allison's books, but I found this romantic comedy to be quite fresh!

The writing was a little scattered at times, but I did really enjoy it.

In this we follow Nina and Harrison. Two people who were once at complete odds battle it the classic romance battle. (add in a hidden drag queen, an ex husband, and a trip to Vegas) because of course, no romantic comedy would be proper without some turbulence.

I found this a very quick read, the chapters are short, and crisp.
Very character driven, and you can't help but fall in love with them!

I read and really enjoyed Her Turn back in January of 2021.
And when I seen My Turn I jumped at the opportunity to read another Jones novel!
This is definitely a light story.
The romance was great with interesting characters.
This book has an intriguing storyline that grasps your attention.
My only complaint would be I didn't really connect or feel for these characters.
I wished could and I tried, but failed.
Overall, this was a cute, sweet at times funny read.
3.5/5
