Being an avid Nora Roberts fan I was surprised that the protagonist Harry Booth is a man as they are usually strong women who have overcome turbulence in their lives but this didn’t matter in the slightest as we follow Harry from 9 years old over the next twenty years with his mother and his Aunt Mags they don’t have much but they do have each other and he will do anything to look after them and keep them safe. An enthralling read

This fascinating book makes us examine where we draw our moral lines. Yes, criminal acts are wrong BUT sometimes they are driven by such strong factors that you can feel understanding and compassion for those committing them. You probably wouldn't condemn a child for stealing a loaf of bread to feed starving siblings but what if the same child stole jewels or rare items to pay for his mother's medical bills?? Then, how do we feel about the adult this child grows into, the one that knows what he does is wrong but feels a need to do it anyway and so does it in the least harmful way possible? This is what this book examines and in an amazing way.

It was in incredibly easy to read story with the characters springing to life from the page. As with many Nora Roberts books, when I turned the last page I was sad as I wanted much, much more because of how I cared for all those I had been reading about.

Nightwork is a stand-alone novel by best-selling American author, Nora Roberts. By the time his mother dies after a third bout of cancer, eighteen-year-old Harrison Silas Booth has already been a thief for nine years. Even though his aunt Mags has been rock-solid in her support, past due notices fill the mailbox, adding stress when Dana Booth least needed it.

Harry is essentially self-taught, advancing from pick-pocketing to what he terms “nightwork”: burglaries of luxury goods from rich homes. He contributes, surreptitiously, to the bills with his aunt’s tacit approval. And, nightwork gives him a thrill. When Dana dies, Mags and Harry quit Chicago and go their separate ways, vowing to keep in touch.

Harry winds his leisurely way, as Silas Booth, to New Orleans, learning, always learning, discovering new things, making good friends and continuing to pay his way with a little nightwork. When a fence put him in touch with an accomplished thief, he ends up stealing a Turner sunset. The client insists on meeting him, but Silas is wary of the offer this privileged but greedy man makes.

He spends some time furthering his education in Texas before enrolling at a college that took his eye in North Carolina, at UNC, as Booth Harrison. His usual trick of staying under the radar comes apart when he falls in love with his professor’s beautiful daughter, Miranda. Could he actually have a normal life?

It seems not. Carter LaPorte, that client from New Orleans is on his doorstep, insisting he take a statue from a museum in Baltimore. Refusal is not an option: this man is used to getting his own way, and Booth can’t risk the overt threat of injury, even death to those he loves. He breaks a heart, steals a statue, and vows to maintain his distance thereafter.

Thanks to his love of acting and theatre, Booth is by now expert at switching identities, and escapes the country to avoid LaPorte’s further demands: he will not be owned. But he doubts this man will ever tire of his pursuit, and begins to long for a more settled existence: a job as an English/drama teacher in a mid-size town would fit the bill. And does, until someone who knows him arrives…

Roberts really is an accomplished story-teller, making this very readable, with characters who endear themselves to the reader and repay the investment of time and emotion. And this story has everything a reader could want: food, theatre, theft, love and romance, and a clever sting to turn the tables on a ruthless collector. Enjoyable, entertaining and hard to put down.

I love Nora Roberts and always wait eagerly for her next book. I have never read a bad book by her and Nightwork is no exception. It has an emotional beginning, setting the scene and helping us to really know the main characters. It kept me hooked all the way through and I just could not fault it at all. I loved it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for my ARC.

Its always a treat to read a Norah Roberts book. They are well crafted tomes of escapism. Nighwork is no exception. A slow build of the main character ensures he has the readers entire empathy. The dynamic with the leading female character is always a treat. The side characters also proved delightful in this story of an accomplished likeable thief and his tale of paypack

I discovered Nora Roberts several years ago and had the delight of binge reading her backlog, and ever since I've read every single one of her romantic suspense novels when they're released. Each time she's sucked me in and told me a fantastic story, gently putting me back down to Earth afterwards.

Although Nightwork did feel slightly different to many of the stories I've read of hers - most especially I think because it was told through a male protagonist's POV when I am so used to a female - and there were definitely times I just wanted to get to the meat of the story and stop hopping through time, which if you've read some older books you'll know isn't exactly a new thing with Ms Roberts, it still met my expectations.

There were well-explored, wonderfully flawed and relatable characters - Booth was an intriguing MC and it was wonderful to see him grow - fantastic settings that came to life off the page, intricate relationships and a wonderful romance, and of course, the suspense that ties it all together. Overall - if you're a romantic suspense fan then you won't be disappointed!

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy!

I always look forward to this time of year knowing that a new Nora Roberts book will be printed, bound and devoured by hoardes of readers on release. This year's offering of romantic suspense being 'Nightwork'.

I've got to admit that I would be 'read everything she writes without reading the blurb' fan if I wasn't so taken by her ability to craft stories from twenty six letters arranged and rearranged so beautifully.

The blurb worried me. I thought I'd never love a thief, regardless of the circumstances. Oh how wrong I was!

This book will suck you in and you won't even mind.

I promise that you will be swept along on an adventure that will make you alternately joyous, sad, frustrated, enraged and excited. Excited to imagine just how a happy conclusion will be crafted and served up to you, the reader

You will not be disappointed.

A really enjoyable read, this is Harry's story. It follows Harry descirbing his life and how he slides into becoming a thief with his mother's cancer and then how he goes on to really develop his skills and become a world class thief.

It starts slow, but once Harry settles down and the romance develops the story speeds up and towards the end when Harry is working to set himself free of Carter LePorte, a former criminal associate who wants to drag him back into his life of crime, it becomes absolutely engrossing and I just couldn't put it down!

Recommended!.

I cried with Harry through chapter 1 till 3 emotional writing at its best.
The story starts with Harrys struggle, coping with his mothers illness while going to school and helping with his mothers cleaning business.

The first half is so well written that you feel his emotions as if they are yours. As you read on it does tend to lose the emotional contention until Chapter seventeen, when he interacts with a lost love from his past.. We now get to read how he felt about his past involvements and where he thinks his future will be.

The bad guy is so sinister because he looks and acts normal till you cross his as Harry is about to do. His last job is explained step by step as if you are watching a tv programme.
Well written and enjoyable

Amazing. Couldn't put it down. I envy Nora for being able to write from the man's side just as well as the woman's.
From the beginning to the end, I couldn't put it down.

Young Harry has to grow up fast when his mum gets sick, business is about to be shut down, bills aren't being paid and the medical bills are piling up and up. What's a young lad to do to try and keep a roof over their heads while mum is in no shape to do so.

So he starts his career. We follow him from picking pockets to doing his nightwork. Stealing from the wealthy. A thief with ethics he becomes. We watch him deal with tragedy after tragedy and he keeps himself going.

One job he does as a favour for someone that couldn't do it and this puts him in the cross hairs of the wrong type of man. Harry (not harry anymore) finds and loses love, travels the world, builds a name for himself. Will he eventually retire and enjoy the quiet life? Or will he continue his Nightwork and make sure his name goes down in history?

You'll have to find out for yourself!

All of the characters of this novel for their roles perfectly. You love the flighty aunt, the people Harry meets during his travels, you hate the baddie. All written fantastically. I might just go read this again to see what I missed first time around!

Happy Reading!

Harry has been a thief since he was a child, trying to keep a roof over his and his sick mother's head.
After his mother's death he goes on the road and hones his skills. He leads a quiet life bouncing between universities combining his love of studying with stealing. He starts to think he can settle down.
He is very good at stealing and this leads to him popping up on the radar of someone he does not want to get involved in.
Trying to protect his remaining family and new found friends he goes on the run, bouncing around the world. He finally finds a place he thinks he can call home but then his past suddenly appears in the form of the girl he loved and left and the man whose radar he does not want to be on.
A well paced story and unusually for Roberts with a male lead. It will appeal to Roberts fans!

When Harry was 9yrs old his mother found she had cancer and the bills start to pile up ....... determined to help her he puts his ability to pick pockets to work to pay down the bills , all the while keeping his secret from his mother but not from her sister , his Aunt Mags .
Over the years the cancer comes back and more bills accrue which Harry is determined to pay off ..........his abilities have also grown and he is now a first class thief - albeit one with a code and morals .
When his mother finally dies he decides to travel and perhaps get an education , that is until, he is drawn into a theft that he should really have left alone . Threats are made against those Harry truly cares for - unless he steals to order their lives are forfeit . There is only one thing he can do ...... disappear , which is just what he does
for years , only contacting his Aunt to let her know he was still alive.
However the past does have a habit of catching up and he eventually realises that he will have to stand and fight for a chance at a happy life or finally give in to his nemesis's demands .

This is a longer and more in-depth , character driven book which needs some perseverance - but is so worth it
in the end . A thoroughly enjoyable book from this talented Author

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this amazing book

only nora roberts could write a book about breaking and entering and make him a loveable rogue, but this book is about so much more than the synopsis reveals....

its about an enduring love for family and friends and for that one special person...but its also about survival and dealing with what life hands out to you....and also about putting you in the path of evil....

this storyline has it all and more, its compelling reading and it will make you lose hours if not days while you finish it

One thing about any Nora Roberts book is that you become emotionally invested in the characters and this book is not the exception. The first few chapters had me sobbing. I fell in love all the characters. The morals of the main character is justifiable and the change of locations and descriptions wonderful.
