This book wasn’t for me. I couldn’t gel with the characters or the story. It was a very tedious and boring book

I thoroughly enjoyed this Women's Fiction novel. The story is about Harry, a little boy who has a hard childhood as his mother was very sick, and he had to help her to pay the bills and buy food for them. To do this, he became a thief. After a big loss, he moved away and travelled around, continuing with his nightwork (thieving). Later, he also held a normal job too, and had a love life. We are shown him as a young boy, growing up into a man, and it was really interesting to read about his life. I liked him, even though I didn't always agree with the things he done.

The writing in the book is superb. Nora always writes wonderfully, and her stories and characters are always engaging and adventurous.

I loved this book and recommend it highly!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Harry started stealing at the age of nine to support himself and his mother who was battling cancer. When his mother passed away he left his hometown but continued to pursue his career in stealing. Harry takes a job to steal a painting for Carter LaPorte. Laporte is not someone you want to get on the wrong side of and he decides that he wants Harry to work for him and chases Harry no matter where he goes.

I really liked the sound of this book but sadly I didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped I would. This initially started off really well and I was intrigued with the story but following the death of Harry's mother, the story went downhill for me. I found that the plot became quite slow-moving.

I am still quite new to Nora Roberts' books but her latest releases I haven't enjoyed as much as some of her older books. Overall this was an ok read for me but it was not a favourite.

This was a good solid read from the force that is Nora Roberts.
Following a morally grey character with time jumps to keep the relatively slow pace of this book interesting, although it was on the long side.
Suspense but with not a huge amount of danger, romance, and lovable grey characters you find yourself rooting for - it was a good read.

I loved this book by Nora Roberts.
As a big fan, anyway, I knew I would but expected it to follow the same set out as Nora’s tried and tested romance signatures. But I was wrong there.
It felt different from her previous stories.
The main character had a different moral compass yet was still likeable and I was empathetic to him from the get go. He grew into my favourite of all Nora’s male characters across every book (and I’ve read them all).
The female lead was strong, smart and witty. Perfect for the main character.
The storyline was interesting and kept me captivated throughout. There was a big twist at the end or a big shocker but I still devoured the book.
Overall I will be recommending this to all.

I thought that this book had a great storyline and some truly excellent characters

The book was full of intrigue and action, it had a brilliant mix and was wonderfully developed from start to finish

It was romantic and true and it really captured the ‘workings’ of his nightwork down to the last detail

It was a brilliant read – I could not put it down!!

It is 5 stars from me for this one – no hesitation on giving it top marks – another cracking book from Nora Roberts

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Nightwork by Nora Roberts. I used to read her books years ago but haven't for a long time so when I saw this one pop up I decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did. The story has stayed with me long after I've finished the book (late review sorry!)

This is a stand alone novel, about Harry Booth, who we meet as a young boy struggling with his mothers illness and trying to put food on the table. He turns to "Nightwork" (theft) as he is so desperate, but he comes to enjoy his Nightwork and doesn't stop when he gets older.

His Nightwork is not without dangers though, namely a paymaster who becomes a danger to him, and his loved ones, throughout his life.

Harry is a very intelligent man, and I enjoyed his story and relationships throughout the book. He's definitely a likeable character despite being a thief!

I loved the way the story came together and this was one of those books that I really couldn't put down. The writing was excellent with plenty of detail, and brilliant character relationships. My only tiny bug bear was the amount of times food, and cooking food was mentioned, it did seem rather a lot! But it still gets 5 stars from me.

A brilliant book, and I wish I could be at the beginning again without knowing the story!

In this haunting psychological thriller, a mother and daughter face a deadly secret lurking in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest

Ava Montgomery never wanted to return home. She fled Wildwood fourteen years ago after the discovery of Adam Albright’s body in the forest shattered her young life. But when a violent divorce sends her running back to her parents’ house with her troubled daughter Marjorie in tow, Ava discovers that not much has changed in the small Oregon town where she grew up.

Nora Roberts is an absolute waste of storytelling. This book was well balanced with romance and suspense, written in a beautiful style.

The characters she creates, using their back stories, ensure that we feel so many different emotions and that we feel involved with the story.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the ARC - a really fantastic book.

My first Nora Roberts book and I absolutely loved it!
Harry Booth is 9 years old when he starts breaking and entering into people's homes. His mum has cancer and can't keep up with the bills so he learns to steal high price items and pawn them to help out. He realizes from an early age to not stand out and to overhear conversations such as when people are on holiday or who owns a large sought after stamp collection.
Over the years, Harry's mum is struck with cancer three times and at the same time, Harry is learning everything he can to help him with his new side job such as new languages, disguises, lock picking, quick vault opening etc. When his mum unfortunately passes away, he decides to travel around America to places he hasn't seen and homes waiting to be broken into.
Life becomes steady, with a stream of income, a college course and a nice group of friends. But he crosses paths with Carter LaPorte, high up in the thieving world who has clients that want specific items and will go to any measures to get them, even if that means he wants to own Harry,
Absolutely gripping, I loved Harry, I thought he was so sensible from a young age and not a bad person. Always wanting to better himself in the only way he knows how. I can't wait to read another Nora Roberts book!

I’ve always been a fan of Nora Roberts since her early days and probably cut my teeth on her books back in the days of her writing for Mills and Boon and Nightwork has leapt straight into my top three NR books. I know it is one I’ll definitely be re-reading in future.
From the age of nine, when his mother was first hit with the cancer that would eventually kill her, Harry Booth stepped up to mark and supported his family in the only way he could think of – he vacate a thief. But it wasn’t in Harry’s nature to just pick pockets. He taught himself how to crack safes and the art of disguise. By the time his mother died just when he should’ve been leaving for university his future was already decided. But a talent like his always attracts an arch enemy and this enemy casts a long shadow threatening anyone close to him. In a tale that spans the globe from Chicago to New Orleans to Paris before coming back to a small town in Virginia, this is the story of a modern day Raffles, a thief with a strong moral code and a strict rule that no one is ever physically hurt.

This book, in my opinion, was one of Nora Robert’s best to date. I love how she always gives a detailed background to her heroines or, in this rare case her hero Harry, detailing what set them on the road they follow and made them into the person they are. There is always a lot of detail to backgrounds she places her characters in and her words describing New Orleans were so vivid and evocative I almost felt like I was there sitting in a bar. With a fantastic cast of supporting characters such as Harry’s aunt Mags who, just saying I would love a book about her travels, I can’t praise Nightwork strongly enough

Nightwork by Nora Roberts.
When he was nine, and his mother had her first deadly dance with cancer, Harry became a thief. Someone had to find food and pay the mortgage even if his mother was too sick to work. When his mother finally succumbs to cancer, Harry leaves Chicago but somehow he can't quite leave all of his past behind.
A really really enjoyable read. Great story. I did like the cover. 4*.

Rating ⭐.5
This one just wasn't for me :(. I want to feel conflicted about rooting for a morally grey character but I just didn't feel anything for Booth. So of you do like him, then this could be a winner for you!

~ Quick Summary ~

We follow the life of Harry Booth, whose mother was diagnosed with cancer and became a thief to help make ends meet. After she passed away Booth continued his nightwork and never stayed in one location for too long, fearing that his enemy will catch up to him.

~ Pick this up if you enjoy/don’t mind the following ~

👨 A morally grey character: A kind thief who care about his family

😯 Side of mystery and romance

🐢 Slow pace

👪 Likeable characters

🕐 Skipping forward in time and switching locations

~ What I Enjoyed ~

The theme of family and Booth’s relationships.

~ What I didn’t enjoy ~

This was incredibly slow paced, I just couldn’t get into it. I didn't feel connected or invested in Booth so his experiences and travels were boring to me. I love morally grey characters but I’d simply describe Booth as a nice guy and a good person.

I felt no tension or suspense whatsoever throughout the book, not even from the heists.

What really didn’t work for me was how events were glossed over and we would skip forward in time so when I feel like I’d start to immerse we'd jump somewhere else. I feel I’m being told, not shown most of the time.

La Porte didn’t feel like the dangerous villain of the story that he was meant to be. Their first meeting and conflict wasn’t intense enough for me to feel like Booth needed to fear La Porte and live his life in hiding. I just didn’t feel the danger or urgency. When Booth was forced to do a job I thought there would be more time spent on the heist and having to leave his life behind but it was breezed through.

At the 57% mark it got slightly better because we stayed in one location for a longer period of time, but by that time I just wanted to finish this. However, the plot took an unexpected turn, it was something I’d expect in a rom com.

Years after years of great books, one of my favourite authors is coming with another hit for me.

I simply devoured this story in one sitting. I found the characters so intriguing. Their ways of going through life are definitely questionable, but they are still portrayed as a human with feeling and emotions when confronted with life dilemmas.

A romantic suspense that is a must read story.
