I enjoyed this duology as a whole. I enjoyed the romance and the connections between the characters. I did find myself enjoying this one less than the first though unfortunately.

This was such an interesting and incredible read, there was such depth and intrigue. I found myself completely entranced by the story.

I picked this book up some time after finishing For the Wolf. The beginning of this book was a bit confusing to me, as I didn't quite remember all the details from the first book. Still, it was intriguing enough to keep me going and before long I was captivated again by the Wilderwood and the Shadowlands.

Where For the Wolf is Red's story, For the Throne centers around Neve, her twin sister. Neve finds herself stuck in the Shadowlands with Solmir, the man/king/god who has betrayed her and Red. They need to work together to find another way out of the Shadowlands and to stop the Kings from returning to the real world.

I love the dark vibes that the author weaves into her books. It makes for a very atmospheric read! I especially loved the second half of this book, it was very gripping and I couldn't stop reading.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this story.

I really adored the first book and following Red's story, but I couldn't seem to get into Neve's POV in this book. I picked it up countless times but just couldn't seem to get invested enough.

The second part of the duology, following For The Wolf. There is some lovely continued world-building and it’s interesting to follow Neve instead of Red – I found her sections much more intriguing than the bits we got from other perspectives. The twists were not a surprise but that didn’t lessen my enjoyment of it. This felt darker than the first book, and I loved the magic and atmosphere that created. The ending was a bit convenient, but I don’t begrudge our characters the way it all concluded. I’m very interested to see what will come next from this author – there’s a new release coming up soon!

What a book. Definitely reading again. I loved the characters and the world Whitten created. The characters were relatable.

Unfortunately I did not finish this book. I found it slow and very hard to get through. Ultimately, it just wasn’t for me.

3 stars for a fair rating.

I can't go on. Was hoping this would be better than the first but it's not at all. I tried. Whitten is not for me.

I was not a huge fan of this, although it was not bad by any means. It was a little slow for my taste, and I think I enjoyed it less because it's been quite a while since I read the first book. I will definitely do a reread though!

I must say I enjoyed the first one more
It’s not like it was bad but second book for me are hard to love sometimes
Like the first one are really good and captivating that it’s really hard to make the second one as good

This was good but I did prefer the first one
Nothing wrong or bad about it but I enjoyed the plot of book 1 more

It took me longer to read this second book than the first one because I didn’t immediately care as much for Neve’s journey as I did for Red’s. It’s definitely a fault of mine that I get irrationally attached to the main characters from first books and only want to read about them afterwards.
But the author managed to make me care, to reveal Neve’s humanity and monstrosity and make me root for her. The writing is fierce and poetic, it’s as alive as the forest it lives in. The descriptions of the Wilderwood, of the magic and the way it works, the way it feels, gripped me every time.
I felt that it took a long time to reel me in completely because the rhythm was slower and I didn’t care for the Shadowlands in the first half, but the plot unfolded in absolute perfection. I loved how everything was tied by the bond and love of two sisters, how it was the answer to magic, to the world, to everything.
And I will think about that ending for a long time. I was so thankful to get such an extensive epilogue, because I often feel like we never get to stay long enough with the characters in the aftermath of the climax. I’ve loved every single one of these characters and I was really happy to see how they fit into the world after everything.

I had a lot of fun with For The Wolf, finding the creative inspiration of various fairy tales really satisfying while appreciating how it gave itself plenty of creativity to create its own story. It's at times a little cliche and angsty, but For The Throne was still an enjoyable read to close off the tale.

You can get away with a lot if you have good characters, and the Wilderwood duology is a good example of that. The ensemble wanes from falling into tropes, and while it's apparent effort is made to make them their own thing, it often does slip in favour of the angsty moments. But in those moments that might have me rolling my eyes in other circumstances, I'm happy to let go when there's a connection between characters. I have a lot of love for Neve in particular so was happy to see she got to take centre stage this time around. What I really wish was that there was a bit more adventuring in the series as a whole, to spend more time building these characters and relationships up to make them really move me, over just being cute. (The romantic ones not so much, but the platonic friendships that are so deeply routed in this story, but often aren't given the limelight.)

For The Throne was particularly cool in the worldbuilding department. Last time we had the Wilderwood, but now we get to explore the underworld, which is both creepy and spectacular. In the first book I was fascinated by the religion, customs and tradition and how it moved the characters and their stories (Neve was so intrinsic to this theme and was what made her really stand out to me). This is lost a bit in the sequel, but the imaginative landscapes are still a strength, and so much of the events of the book first map out the arcs that are finalised here.

Overall, these books have been very enjoyable, if a little more predictable having seen where the first one went. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun with For The Throne, and am eager to see what Whitten has brewing up next (and I'd be more than happy to visit this world again, as its cast are so well set up for a spin off).

I loved Hannah Whitten's For The Wolf. For The Throne though, leaves much to be desired. I couldn’t root for the MC like I had rooted for Red and the LI was supremely annoying. It feels like such a big stepback from FTW. Not recommended

It took me a while to really get invested in For the Throne. I fell in love with Red and Eammon in For the Wolf, so it was difficult to switch to a different POV for the second book. But, once I got invested, I really, really got invested.

Neve was far from my favorite character in For the Wolf, but she redeemed herself splendidly in For the Throne. Her character growth made me adore her, and her story was a beautiful one.

And luckily, I didn’t have to say goodbye to Red and Eammon, or anyone of the gang. Everybody had a part to play, and how the story of both books came together in the end was amazing.

I’m sad to leave the world of the Wilderwood now, but I also believe a duology is the perfect way to tell this story.

Having enjoyed the first book in this series I found For The Throne to be slow moving, and it didn't really live up to the promise of the original book.., which is disappointing considering the story picks up right where the first novel ended. I did not finish this book

Unfortunately I could not finish this book.

I found it hard to stay in the story as I did with the first installment but managed to muddle through with for the wolf.

Hopefully this author will continue to write and publish, one day I will be able to enjoy their writing to the fullest.

While I think this is a solid duology overall, I thought that this second book was definitely weaker than the first. I enjoyed the quest through the shadowlands with Neve as she sought out the older gods, but it felt a little rushed through and anticlimactic. I felt like Raffe and Kayu's story was a bit unnecessary and was there for plot convenience rather than adding any real depth to the narrative. The relationship between Fife and Lyra was nicely developed and I thought that the last 100 pages were particularly strong, but overall, this was a bit of a disappointment for me.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Thank you for the advanced arc. I was so excited for this book as it is a 2nd volume after For The Wolf. I loved For The Wolf, it made me want to read only fantasy with forest settings for a while. The ending was so explosive and great, I really wanted to see what would happen in the 2nd vol.

Unfortunately, this book did not captivate me enough. It took me almost 3 months to finish, which is something so rare for me. I love the world and the magic. I started very curious to see what happens with the characters, but slowly lost interest. I still don't know what happened exactly; I think it might be a combination of I could guess what would happen and the incredibly slow pace.

For the Throne is the sequel to For the Wolf and after being sucked down in the Shadowlands Neve must find her way back to her beloved sister with in the help of rouge King Solmir. I really liked this, if For the Wolf was romantic emo fiction then this one was definitely goth emo fiction and I’m all for that. There’s a lot of talk about monsters and what makes a monster and who is the true monster and can monsters ever be redeemed? It’s all great navel gazing wrapped up in gothy melodrama you can’t say fairer than that. Neve is a hard to like which is the point I suppose but I was invested in her nevertheless. An all around excellent emo yarn, you can tell they all were wearing lashings of eyeliner.

For me this book paled in comparison to For the Wolf, and whilst it wasn’t a bad book I did find it disappointing. FTW had such strong world building and character development and this book didn’t succeed in that for me at all. The world felt overly complicated and under described so I could never really comprehend where the characters were or visualise the scenes which led to the jeopardy feeling lower staked or just confusing in part. I didn’t like Neve as a character even half as much as I enjoyed reading about Red, and the same could be said about this love interest. I do think the author has great talent but this book felt like it needed more refining or planning to have the same impact as book one. I also feel that this book in parts turned more in to the kind of fantasy romance that has been popular on KU for the last few years, which I’ve enjoyed a lot of but is a pretty stark comparison to FTW, and the sex scenes weren’t very comfortably written in to this story for me. Overall it did feel inconsistent and there was frequent tonal shifts in the writing style that I’m not sure were deliberate. I think it’s likely that the author wants to write more of the romance side of fantasy romance, which I would be interested to read but in a series where that is set up in the initial book instead of changing styles between books.
Overall this wasn’t a great book for me but perhaps would be preferred by people who didn’t love the first as much.
