Never Gonna Happen is my first Heidi Stephens book. Its an enjoyable, albeit a little anticlimactic, quick read with an adorable romance and lots horseback riding. Emily Wilkinson is your typical down on her luck character with nothing seeming to go right for her. She’s lost everything, literally, in a hair-straightener fire. And her boyfriend who also happens to be her married boss, has announced he's going back to his wife and kids. So, she needs a new job and somewhere to live that isn't her childhood bedroom.

Emily has made a career of being an executive assistant. She knows how to handle and prop up demanding, egotistical men. When she see that Charles Hunter, a millionaire tech guy is looking for a live-in PA to help run Bowford Manor his estate and various business affairs, this is Emily’s chance to try something new, and he thinks she's a perfect fit. She’s quickly sucked into the whirlwind of the Hunter family and finds herself fending off a difficult housekeeper, a driver with a huge crush on her, and entitled children, Mr. Hunter’s oldest two children who only care about the money. But no one's mentioned the dashing stable hand - and youngest Hunter, Jamie. Being that he’s a Hunter and technically her boss he’s off totally limits. Emily's not about to make that mistake again…but how long can she hold off on her feelings?

Emily is a little bit of a hot mess, but she’s relatable, fierce and knows how to handle herself. I also love how down to earth and sporty she is. She has a close knit, wacky, extremely supportive, lovable family. Her mother and all her crazy stories are absolutely hilarious, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Never Gonna Happen is a hugely uplifting, totally irresistible romantic comedy set in England. It’s the perfect escapism just in time for the summer!

Thank-you NetGalley and Headline, Headline Accent for the chance to review this ARC.

Never Gonna Happen by Heidi Stephens is the perfect way to start your summer!
I mean just look at this sunny cover!

This was such a cute romcom my only issue was that she was with a married man at the start of the book. So if it's something that bothers you. You might want to do your research.

I enjoyed this book it was fun and I love the British feels this has. Made me think of Bridget Jones!

Overall enjoyable!

Emily lost her boyfriend and flat in the same day, and as she worked for said boyfriend too she knows she needs to find a new job too.
When she starts working for Mr Hunter as a PA, she meets Jamie. Will she be able to keep from falling for someone she works with again?
An enjoyable read, with lots of different characters, but easy to keep up with what is happening

This was a fun and light hearted read. Emily just quit her job and lost everything but what she was wearing when her flat went up in flames. She is more than ready for a new start. She applies for a job that would have her working as an assistant for an older rich guy who will her to live on site. She is more than excited to accept the job offer after meeting Mr. Hunter and taking a small tour. She has decided to focus on her job and put off any relationships. Marcus is an extremely handsome guy she ran into in the stables and she had an immediate reaction to him. Marcus is Mr. Hunter’s youngest son and they end up starting a relationship that grows from there. They have a few bumps in the road but everything works out as it should.

Emily cannot believe how much her life has changed in the past week or so. From finding out that her married boyfriend of two years and also her boss, has decided to give his marriage another shot. To her room being burnt down after one of her flatmates used her GHD straighteners and forgot to unplug them. Now finding herself back at her parent’s house, in her old room that has been converted into a craft room.

Needing to move forward with her life she applies for a couple of PA roles, one of which is with an individual based in Norfolk. After a visit to the estate, she decided to accept the role although meeting the stablehand has her thinking twice about swearing off men 0 until she finds out that he is the boss’s youngest son and she declares – it’s never gonna happen. Especially as he has a gorgeous, willowy girlfriend who is based in London.

Throwing herself into her new role she manages to navigate Mr Hunter’s expectations but can’t understand why the housekeeper Anna is standoffish with her. Getting riding lessons from Jamie has them forming a friendship. Emily invites him home for Christmas when he forgoes the Hunter Christmas plans. Whilst they work well together it appears that others around them don’t wish for them to be together. Can they make this thing work?

This is my first book by this author but it definitely won't be the last, this is a sweet and funny romance that will make you laugh and sigh.

I really liked the story, Charles is an amazing boss, although some of the family members are so obnoxious, but Jamie is so sweet. I love their dialogues and scenes together,

This is a romcom that will make you fall in love and captivate you from start to finish, if you are a fan of slow burn romcom this is definitely for you.

’Never Gonna Happen’ was my first Heidi Stephens read and will not be my last!

We follow Emily Wilkinson who after losing her flat due to her housemate leaving her straighteners on, and being dumped by her boyfriend (who so happens to be her boss), is down on her luck and decides it time for a new job and a change of scenery. When she’s hired by millionaire Charles Hunter to be his live-in PA in the Bowford Manor, set against the lovely backdrop of the Norfolk Countryside, she finds herself once again mixing business with pleasure as she falls for Jamie (aka the Jamie Dornan lookalike and what a visual!).

First of all, I absolutely love books that have a British setting/British references. When Emily first mentioned Nando’s and grabbing Marks & Spencer cans I just KNEW I would be a fan of hers (and I was, for the most part!).

The characters in this really elevated the story and led to many laugh-out-loud moments. My personal MVPs being Carol, Emily’s mum and Mr Hunter (wouldn’t we all want a boss like him!). Also a big fan of Kelly and Emily’s family. There was something just so comforting about how ’normal’ they were, especially when compared to Jamie’s family who I didn’t like as much.

I struggled most with how the book is divided, the way it transitions chapter to chapter felt quite disjointed and it took me while to work out where in the timeline we now were as there were quite a few time jumps. It started off rather well, but it became a bit taxing to read as time when on. I feel like it would have benefitted from being just that little bit shorter. I will say, I was dropping and picking this up repeatedly due to other commitments, so I would likely have felt less confused if I sat down and just read it all the way through!

Additionally, Emily and Jamie’s relationship just felt like it lacked that certain spark. There were certainly cute scenes between the pair but the chemistry just wasn’t all that. In a weird juxtaposition, there was insta-love (or maybe lust is more apt), they moved kind of fast but somehow it felt it was dragging.

Overall a fun and cute read, a good form of escapism for those wishing they were off in the countryside away from the city!

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline Accents for this ARC.

This book had a cute rom-com plot and was pretty effortless to read; however, I feel like the transitions between scenes and chapters were disorganized.

Read this if you like: RomComs, disfunctional families, come back stories

Emily Wilkinson has lost everything. Her roommate borrowed hair straightener fire, which has sent her entire flat up in flames. Oh, and her boyfriend (and, incidentally, boss) has just announced he's going back to his wife. So, she needs a new job, a new wardrobe, and somewhere to live that isn't her former childhood bedroom.

Multi millionaire Charles Hunter is looking for a live-in PA to help run Bowford Manor. Emily has spent ten years propping up demanding men, so she feels qualified.
She is quickly sucked into the whirlwind of the Hunter family. Especially intriguing is the stable hand, Jamie, who just so happens to be the youngest Hunter.

The characters were likeable. It did have some funny parts. I enjoyed the romance between Emily and Jamie though it felt a bit rushed. I wish we had seen more. The book was written well. It just fell a little flat for me. It was good but it needed more. It seemed more about her starting a new life than romance, which is what I thought would be the focus. I do recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Heidi Stephens, and Headline Publishing for the gifted copy. ❤️

I appreciate NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review Never Gonna Happen. This was such a fun book to kick of summer with. Emily takes a new job on an English estate after a breakup with her married ex-boss. She learns to stand on her own two feet again while meeting an adorable and somewhat quirky set of characters.

This is a fun romance with some comedy. I liked Emily and Jamie – there chemistry was good, and I enjoyed their romance. I found them interesting characters whom I wanted to spend time with. I liked that the story wasn’t about class differences in the couple’s relationship, but about not wanting to repeat the same mistake as before.

I wished that we had seen things through Jamie’s perspective at times and that the book had been about 50 to 100 pages shorter. It felt to me like a lot was getting put into the story and not all of it was being fully developed or adequately explored. As well, at times it felt like the story dragged.

Overall, I found the book easy to read and the story enjoyable.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It was simply a very fun, witty and cute weekend read for me. The characters were super fun and exciting to read about. And the writing was simple yet laced with the thought provoking dialogues and actions of the MCs . Definitely a full 5 stars read for me.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I loved Emily, who’s never scared to say what she thinks. She has made mistakes.

When she’s offered a new job, it’s totally different from what she’s done before. But she takes it on. The other characters were lovely, Kelly her friend and Emily’s mum, made me laugh.

Emily meets a family, who appear difficult and you feel like loving them, but also disliking them at the same time.

It’s the perfect beach read,

I recommend this book.

This is my first time reading a book from NetGalley and I was not disappointed! Perfectly funny and romantic, exploring the beauty of Norfolk. Turning a city woman into a lover of the courtyiside, thrown into a whole new world and a whole new life, but one that suits her more than she could ever imagine...

This was a cute little rom-com. I really liked main characters Emily and Jamie. Their relationship felt so natural. Also Mr Hunter was a great character, they’re a rich family but even being the head of the house, he was so down to Earth. I loved how Jamie was nothing like his siblings. I think the problematic family added to the story quite well, just the right amount and wasn’t overwhelming.

Jamie high on painkillers was absolutely hilarious. I loved how their relationship progressed when they went to Mauritius. There was a time that Jamie’s character was frustrating but they communicated and worked it out well.

The way Jamie fit in with Emily’s family even though they were brought up very differently was actually very endearing.

A super cute read! Never Gonna Happen is a hilarious romcom. Emily has had a bit of a bad luck streak where her boyfriend/boss dumps her to get back with his wife, and her apartment burns in an accidental hair straighter fire literally on the same day. So not only is Emily recently single and homeless (aside from staying with her parents), she’s out of the job, too. Emily quickly finds a new job, and an unexpected new love! The characters are funny and relatable. Carol, Emily’s mom, especially made me laugh out loud on several occasions with her fantastical assumptions and antics. This book has a perfect amount of romance and drama, and you end up loving every character (expect for maybe the eldest Hunter child).

This was a quick, light, closed door romance which was just okay for me. I struggled with the writing style a bit….the dialogue was drawn out too much, a little repetitive and I felt that the transitions between scenes were very abrupt. Overall I felt that the plot fell flat. However, I did appreciate that at age 29 Emily’s life gets upended and she is strong and confident enough to just go with it and make it work. Though it wasn’t my favorite romance I’ve read recently, it was generally a feel good story..

Thank you to Net galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book early

Never Gonna Happen is Heidi Stephens’s debut romantic comedy. Emily Wilkinson is a 29-year-old Personal Assistant who has recently moved in with her low-income parents due to her flatmate setting fire to their flat. She lost all of her personal belongings and must wear her high school wardrobe until she replaces her things. Her employer gives her two weeks off to handle her personal business and then her married boss decides to end their two-year affair. Emily decides that it’s too painful to continue working with her boss, Mark, so she quits her job. She decides that she is “off men” for a while.

Emily finds a new position with a multimillionaire, Charles Hunter, at his estate which is a few hours away from London. She immediately befriends the chauffeur, Leon, and the handsome horse stable manager, Jamie. The housekeeper, Anna, instantly dislikes Emily and is cruel to her, causing Emily to liken her to Mrs. Danvers. Emily finds out that Jamie is Mr. Hunter’s younger son and won’t date him until Mr. Hunter approves, and Jamie agrees to keep their relationship separate from her job. Emily doesn’t like Mr. Hunter’s oldest son, Adam, and suspects that he’s up to no good.

Emily spends her Christmas holidays with her parents and lifelong best friend, Kelly, in London. Then Mr. Hunter arranges for Emily, Jamie, and himself to travel to Mauritius to check on a possible investment. Jamie is injured while surfing and is unable to travel, so their stay is extended. Emily is a very talented assistant and is invaluable to Mr. Hunter. Emily’s parents, Carol and Martin, provide comic relief between some of Emily and Jamie’s relationship angst.

This is a romantic comedy that doesn’t have explicit sex scenes. The characters are very likeable, and the plot is well-paced. Even though the story takes place in England and contains many British idioms, it is very understandable to American readers. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and look forward to reading future books by this author.
