Love Betty written by Laura Kemp, a NetGalley read. Betty is a high flyer in London, dreams that she could have her own fashion label. However Betty’s involved in a freak accident and it makes her stop and things after that are different. However before Betty has this accident she has a chance and brief meeting with Guy. Guy also thinks he is living the perfect life, he meets Betty on his stag do but again things don’t turn out the way he thought. Both Betty and Guy are fighting there own struggles, however they seemingly need each other to move forward. I really enjoyed this book, it was definitely a grower but it’s an original ideal, with a big heart. It’s a will they won’t they love story and the author is great at building the suspense and at putting in red herrings, so there are points where as a reader you do doubt weather Betty and Guy will make it as a couple. Both Betty and Guy are scared of taking a step into the future because they have unresolved issues from the past and it’s not until they face these that they can move forward. It’s a story about love and about things that are bigger than everything that’s gone before because some things are just seemingly meant to be. This book is frustrating in the fact that you really get behind Betty and Guy but it’s incredibly heart warming and there’s a lot of love in amongst the pages of this book. I’ve not read anything by this author before but that will change, can’t wait to see what comes next from this author. It’s a great easy book which you can truly escape between the pages, lost purely on the talent of this authors writing. I will be recommending this to friends and family. The only problem I had is that it ended to soon and I wanted to know more about what happened to Betty and Guy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

On the day that Betty meets Guy, her life is changed forever. She never thought she'd see him again, but a few months later, realizes she has something of his that needs returning...

So, she writes him a letter. It's the perfect solution for Betty - it means she doesn't need to tell Guy about what really happened that day, and the secret she's been hiding.

For Guy, Betty's letter arrives at his repair shop at the perfect time. His whole world has come crashing down around him and for the first time in a long time, he starts to feel hopeful.

But can you really begin to fall in love with someone you've only met once...?

This book lacked something for me. I didn't feel the characters were very well developed and I didn't love the hint of a cheating trope.

I really enjoyed a previous title by Laura Kemp, so I was excited to be approved to read this new release via netgalley. Apologies to the publisher and author for only getting around to reading it now.

This novel was full of heart. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I was rooting for the two main characters to overcome their individual obstacles and get their happy ever after. I fully plan on catching up on this authors back catalogue now that this is the second book of hers I have read and loved. She writes emotional tales that really get under your skin and make you want to spend time in the world she has created. I am definitely a fan!

A romance of half-truths with echoes of Gavin and Stacey in this Laura Kemp novel. Loved Guy, who mends everything from lovespoons to broken hearts in this super cute tale.

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

On the day Betty meets Guy, her life is changed forever…..

I loved both Betty and Guy, they were both such nice characters, so down-to-earth and i love that they both had lots of personal growth.
The story was very heartwarming and a nice easy read too. It was also beautifully written.
Love, Betty was a lovely, slow burn romance, emotional and funny in places and I really enjoyed it…..

Utterly charming and full of emotion. This book had a refreshingly original opening of how Betty and Guy met. I won’t give away any spoilers but the happy carefree mood drastically changed and it will take your breath away. Betty and Guy were very likeable characters, bath damaged from previous experiences in their lives. But they definitely belonged together and helped each other recover, despite a few hurdles along the way. This book is a true, heartfelt romance, full of highs and lows with moments of humour and sadness. I loved the way Betty and Guy’s relationship developed through their emails. I felt myself as eagerly awaiting the next one as Guy and Betty were! I just wanted to give Guy a great big hug, he was such a sweet soul. I particularly enjoyed the “Welsh” aspect of the story as I’m also a “Valleys” girl! I can thoroughly recommend this book and big thanks to NetGalley and Orion publishers for allowing me to read it in return for posting an unbiased review.

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley. I love Lauras writing so much and she has always been such a joy on social media. She already knows my love for the Welsh accent so I always know I’m going to be treated to a hunk that will make me swoon amongst her pages.

Her writing feels like a warm hug .

Romantic and life affirming .

Her characters whilst swoon worthy are real with relatable issues that make them even easier to love and cheer for.

Sometimes we think we know where our life Is going but an unexpected turn can change the course. Is this a negative thing or something for the best?

A beautiful story of chance encounters, friendship , love and rediscovering our passions.

Our main character her Betty, suffer from ptsd from an accident. She was all over the place, couldn’t get a job . When she suddenly sent out a letter to a Guy. She just met her in a airport , as guy going on a stag do and Betty on her job before the accident.
Reason why I gave it a 3.5⭐️ Is that why would anyone sent a letter to a guy that you know he is married and a kid? Quite interesting to me . But then Betty is lucky that Guy’s wife cheated and different father to the kid. ( spoiler )
Now , YEP . They will have a happy ending.
Not interested on the story at all. It’s quite a let down for me.

Another DNF for me. I'm unsure why some of the books aren't formatting great on kindle, but it only happens with certain ones. The words are joined up and stuff and it's hard to read. Even looking past this I couldn't get into it, seen mixed reviews but will try again in the future. (ARC copy)

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, it sounded cute but I wasn’t prepared for the first punch it packs. It’s beautifully written, fun and romantically brilliant.

Dear Reader, I have no idea why I agreed to read this book. I did not read the author’s previous books, but something attracted me to this book, and I can not explain what it was…

Maybe it was our protagonists? Betty and Guy (Yes, it is his name 😀 ) are experiencing a lot of emotional pain, and grief, and have their lives in shambles… After an accident, Betty is suffering from severe PTSD, self-loathing and a need to be valid. She works very hard toward her dream, and I was silently supporting her all the way. Guy just lost the people he loved the most and he was suffering a lot. He was betrayed by people he cared about, and Betty’s presence in his life kind of saved him. All the characters in the book are very realistic and intriguing personalities. I really liked them all, because they showed that some people, even though they are unpleasant, come into your life to teach you something, and that is what life is all about.

Or perhaps it was the narrative? This plot is full of emotions and a variety of topics were touched on or discussed. Such as loss of parents and other loved ones, guilt, self-loathing, loneliness, forgiveness, working to achieve your goals and dreams, family relationships, self-doubt, trust and relationships, children and plenty more. I was never bored while reading this book, there are so many things going on, and I wanted to see what Betty and Guy are going to do.

Or maybe it was the setting and the writing style? I love reading books set in small British towns and villages, I am a Londoner, so the calmness and the sense of community are soothing to me. The author lives in Wales, and I really liked that she shared her love for the country with the reader. The writing style is very enjoyable and creative, filled with substance rather than just a romantic story. The chapters have medium length, but the chapter composition and dual perspectives made this novel a true joy to read. I really loved the ending of this book, it rounded this story perfectly.

So, to conclude, one thing for sure, I have no regrets after reading this book. The characters are complex, inspiring and educational, and the plot always had me hooked and entertained. I strongly recommend this book if you are looking for a romantic story that is not afraid of difficult topics and leaves you thinking. It has inspired me, and I hope it will inspire you as well. 🙂

LOVE BETTY
BY
LAURA KEMP.

A chance meeting between Betty and Guy happens at a time in both of their lives when things are going well. Guy is getting married and Betty has a great job that she loves.
Then it all turns to custard.

A few months later, Betty is back home in Wales and living with her mother. As she struggles to put the pieces of her life back together, Betty comes across something from her brief meeting with Guy. Making the decision to return the item to him, she tracks down his business address and writes a letter- but maybe isn’t as honest about her life as she could be.
Guy is thrilled to hear from Betty. Her letter gives him a much needed lift at a time when his life has fallen apart. As he replies to Betty’s letter, will he be as economical with his truth as Betty has been with hers?
Letters and emails begin to fly back and forth between the two. Guy and Betty soon realise that they are starting to mean rather a lot to each other.
Once the truth about both of their lives is laid bare, what will the future hold for Betty and Guy?

The characters in this book are adorable. Betty is quirky and fun, despite her trauma. Guy is just a lovely bloke. You can’t dislike a man who cares so much for his Nanna. (but not in a weird way!)
My favourite character is possibly Betty’s sister Nerys. She is funny and just so very Welsh to the core.
There is a whole cast of wonderful supporting characters that add colour and sparkle to the story.

I loved the whole slow burn of getting to know someone by letter.
The pleasure of receiving a handwritten letter sadly seems to be largely a thing of the past.

I really did love this book. As always Laura Kemp writes with great humour and some very touching emotion.
I would also suggest that a side hustle with the Welsh Tourist Board could be considered, because Laura’s ability to capture the very essence of this wonderful country and put it at the heart of her stories is most impressive.

I think I have said something quite similar about all of Laura’s books, but it’s true in every case.
This book quite honestly made my heart sing… it’s lush!

This was an unexpected plot. When I read the first chapter I did not expect what occurred to happen in the next pages. I will say though I am glad this didn't develop into a cheating trope with Betty and Guy.

Betty is a lovely character who is struggling with her internal issue of not feeling good enough whereas Guy is struggling with his own issues surrounding the loss of his parents and then his family. It is very cute that they start to correspond through letters however I wish they did not lie in their letters, it would have been better to see them be honest and help one another to repair the damage they have internally. The fact they lie just leads to breakups and miscommunication which is never enjoyable to read. I really didn't like the plot twist with Charlie at the start and him being the babies actual dad because it felt like the writer wanted to make the relationship between Guy and Charlie work and maybe allow Guy to move on but it was not successful. Personally I feel that it is okay not to forgive someone who you view as a brother sleeping and impregnating the woman you married cause she believed the baby was yours. It felt like everything had to be tied up with a nice bow in this book and sometimes it is not really needed.

It was a slow pacing book which was kind of dragging and I did have to read it through multiple sittings to truly enjoy the content of the book. I would recommend it as a once read as there are enjoyable parts but overall I think there was a spark in the book that was missing (one I cannot put my finger on).

Dear Reader,

Annie meets Guy while she is painting balling with friends. After a mishap with a G&T he lends her his cloth hanky (who even carries them anymore?) to mop up. Annie leaves the paint balling early en route to the airport, Venice is calling. However a terrible accident puts a stop to Annie’s travels and in fact sends her back to her home town in Wales to recover.

Guy met Annie at his stag do at paint balling (not his idea, blame his so called best mate Charlie). He gave her the hanky he had with his company printed on, The Repair Guy. After his wedding to Sarah and the birth of baby Maud. It should be a happy ending for Guy except his world has come tumbling down around him.

Annie remembers Guys hanky months after her accident and decides she must send it back to him. This sparks a sequence of back and forth letter writing, emails and texts. Annie lives in Wales and Guy lives in Tunbridge Wells, not exactly close enough to just pop by. Can they make it work between them?

Told from both perspectives in alternating chapters. We learn about not just the main characters but a small bit of about each of their close friends and families. Enough to become fully invested in them separately before they fully connect with each other.

The story itself has an undercurrent of miscommunication about it. Both Annie and Guy at the beginning of their letter writing, neither were being completely truthful. This led to a lot of confusion and lack of trust between the two.

I have to admit I really enjoyed this book. It was a great story, I feel like it had elements from all different ideas in the real life for example The Repair Shop on tv (Guy’s Job) and even a hint of Gavin and Stacey with their location difference. I found this made the book as a whole more relatable.
