There are some funny moments, those that touch on the truths of motherhood and the absurdity of the parent/child relationship but, overall, this book simply fell short.
Without giving spoilers, there is one particular plot point that I have actually lived through and read books where it is written about so perfectly and poignantly (Mike Gayle does it so well) whereas this felt trite, hurried and disingenuous.
Why are Gill Sims' books so heavily reliant on alcohol? Some of us actually do not drink a drop yet still manage to navigate the inane twists and turns of motherhood and sisterhood. The fact that her characters are so desperately in need of alcohol, and that the only ones who aren't are the most unpleasant and stuck up characters make this book even more unrelatable to me; I have a strong sisterhood built of women and mothers who are extraordinary, none of whom are gagging for a drink in every spare or awkward moment.
The 'Why Mummy Drinks' series was more entertaining than this; at least those felt like the inner monologue of one particular woman and had some degree of humour and authenticity. I feel as though this is the kind of book people write to satisfy an editor and a deadline, but the author doesn't believe in it and the reader will forget it within days of reading.
That aside, this is perfect 'airport' reading, or great for passing the time whilst sitting in the car park, waiting for your child to finish whatever club or activity they're participating in.

From the best selling author of 'Why Mummy Drinks', 'Why Mummy Swears', 'Why Mummy Doesn't Give a F**K' and 'Why Mummy's Sloshed' comes another hilarious read. I absolutely love this series of books by Gill Sims.

If you have never read any of these books before then I can highly recommend them. Really funny, laugh out loud moments which are so relatable.

Although this is a series of books,  this could also be read as a standalone.

Claire is back and this time faces her biggest ever problem with her husband Andrew and best friend Emily.

Claire's children, Lucas and Tabitha are once again pushing her to her limits and towards the wine!

In this latest story, Claire meets new friends, which leads to the birth of The Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood.

This was the perfect weekend read for me. Read in one sitting as I just had to keep page turning. Light hearted, funny, heartwarming and just a fabulous read.

Many thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and author for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review. An easy 5 star read for me.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review. Having enjoyed a few of Gill Sims' books before I was delighted to be approved for this one.

I've written and deleted several reviews because they all seemed to give too much away. This book is heartwrenching, it's funny, it's relatable and it's hugely enjoyable. Go read it!

This book was so relatable, a perfect read with brilliant characters. I could imagine so many of them being real people - the yoga mummies at school, the ing couples from dinner parties etc.
It made me laugh so much but at the same time made me feel a little sad and reflective - divorces and how over time couples stop appreciating each other.
We’ve always got wine and friendship though!

I do love Gill Sims. Like all her previous books, The Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood is fantastic. It is heartwarming, heart breaking and totally relatable. It has plenty of laugh out loud moments and I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for my ARC.

A big thank you to Gill Sims. This is the first book by her I have read and it will certainly not be the last. She has so many fantastic one liners in this book that you will. be chuckling long after the book is finished.
What could be a depressing subject. Betrayal and the breakdown of a marriage. It is possible to see that good times are out there to be had and true friends.
I want to live like the Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood. I want to join their club. Perhaps not the show they went to.
I really don’t want to give anything away as I loved this book and know everyone else will too.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC.

Brilliant! Another excellent read from an author that never fails to give you a laugh out loud gem of a book.
Perfect for lazing in the garden, on a warm summer’s day. With a cool glass of Prosecco and lose yourself in a novel that shows you, you are not alone. The struggles are real.

Having read Gill Sims previous books and loved them, I was a little wary that this one seemed to be veering down a bit of a different path but I needn't have worried! Gill's writing has you right there alongside Claire and the Sisterhood as they negotiate coming to terms with changes in their lives and rediscovering who they are as people rather than who society deems they should be. Being able to identify with the characters and see at least a little of yourself in the sisterhood all adds to the joy of reading this book, I for one have known my fair share of Lollys in my school run time! The book is funny and heartwrenching all at the same time, it's an amazing read that I thoroughly enjoyed and I would love to find out what what the sisterhood gets up to next.

I’ve read all of the Why Mummy Drinks series, and been in the audience for one of Gill Sims’s shows, so I was really excited to be granted my wish for a copy of this latest offering, courtesy of NetGalley and Harper Collins.
Yet again, a romping good read from Gill - the story follows a chronological pattern, drawing on family, school, work and friendships to set up this tale of Claire’s life as it unravels and then re-forms in a different, stronger way.
The whole mess of emotions is here, mixed up with a healthy dose of wit and wisdom. The situations, however dire they are, are recounted using keen observational detail and wicked humour and had me laughing out loud as I recognised so much of it as being so very true to life. From playground encounters with pretentious mums, to frustrating conversations with offspring, and the central theme of a supportive and brutally honest band of female friends to laugh, cry and conquer the world with.
I love that Ellen Green and her mad sister-in-law even manage to get a mention in this new story which is in the same vein, but otherwise not connected to the Why Mummy Drinks series.

I love books by Gill Sims. I couldn't wait to read the latest one. Claire, mother of two, has been cheated on by her husband. To make matters worse it was with her best friend. Claire tried to make it work, but at the end she asked for separation. Claire really missed her best friend, so she decided to find new friends and attended a book club, where she met Kate and a mum from school she already knew. This book is very funny and relatable. I can't recommend it enough.

Yet again – I loved a Gill Sims book! Not least because of the many excellent characterisation of a real family life. Claire’s kids are in Year 4 and 6 – and with my youngest two in Years 5 and 7, I could totally relate. I loved the fact her kids threatened to call Childline (0800 double 1 double 1 – surely every child of the 80s / 90s can remember that?!) because she tried to feed them broccoli – one of mine once threatened the same when I’d left the lid off the tzatziki so it had a crust on the top #firstworldproblems

The book follows the implosion of Claire’s marriage – and her relationship with her best mate – as the ‘best mate’ and Claire’s husband have an affair. It then looks at Claire putting her life back together again, and gaining a new circle of friends – who are christened, right at the end of the book, The Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood. As well as the new female friends – there are a couple of new love interests – one male and one canine.

As usual with a Gill Sims book the characterisations are great – and the true to life experiences of parenthood are spot on. It does feel like it ‘borrows’ from the ‘Why Mummy’ series in places – for example the ladies go to watch a poet perform, who could very easily have been Ellen’s sister in law from the previous series of books – but, I guess if a formula works, stick with it. (I’m now wondering if it is a cross over – now that would be cool!)

The school camping trip was horrific – but you could TOTALLY recognise the different groups of parents from your own playground experiences!!

There are a lot of twists and turns – one of them in particular quite shocking – which I felt really added to the book. Some pretty serious subjects subsequently get discussed.

Overall another fabulous book from Gill Sims which I would thoroughly recommend. And it’s available right now!

P.S. I have tried to edit out exclamation marks from this review as I do tend to use them with abandon – but it sounds like Gill has someone who does that from her own book drafts – so I’m clearly in good company with excessive punctuation usage!!

Absolutely loved it. This book made me laugh, made me cry and I was genuinely rooting for all the characters because they are easy to relate to regardless of your personal situation, this book is pure escapism and I genuinely hope there is a sequel because I need more of their stories. So I was new to Jill Sims now I love.
A cosy heartwarming must read

I’ve so enjoyed Gill Sims previous books. And this new one didn’t disappoint at all. Despite there being a moment at the start where I wondered who Claire was and where Ellen was, this was put to rest quickly.

This is another unputdownable book from this wonderful author. It’s mostly about female friendships, but there are laughs, tears and everything in between. Your heart will break and soar while reading this.

Claire and her friends are a very likeable bunch. You want them to get on well, you want them to beat the odds.

The ending is nice, and the star of the whole book is Sadie.

Totally recommend this to anyone who loves a good story and who wants a good laugh and lots of tears.

I am so lucky to have my wish granted to read this!
It's absolutely everything I hoped it would be and more, Gill Sims can do no wrong in my eyes.
The humour and honesty is fantastic, but there's still genuine powerful emotion underneath it all without detracting from the story.

Having kids isn't all rainbows and unicorns like people seem to want to present, I love that Sims doesn't entertain this delusion.

I was really excited to read Gill Sims' latest book as I loved the "Why Mummy Drinks" series, so I devoured this one instantly!

Gill has a down-to-earth, humourous writing style, which is easy to read and I am always sad when I  finish one of her books!

In her latest offering we meet working mum Claire, who is run ragged by her kids and has a husband who does little to help and often stays late at work for his "busy and important" client meetings. When she discovers that said husband is having an affair with her best friend Emily her world is turned upside down.

Claire has noone to turn to as, obviously, Emily is the source of the problem and all of her other friends are either  wives of her hubby"s colleagues or judgemental PTFA school mums that she doesn't really like. Claire decides to join a bookclub and makes some new friends... and the Sauvignon sisterhood is born!

A nice feature is that the character Louisa from the "Why Mummy..." series makes a brief appearance  in one of the chapters.

Keeping everything crossed that we will have more adventures from the Sauvignon Sisterhood!  Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC.

‘It’s time for a w(h)ine’ - cover tag line.

My thanks to HarperCollins U.K. for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘The Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood’ by Gill Sims in exchange for an honest review. I combined reading with its unabridged audiobook edition.

Having adored Sims’ hilarious ‘Why Mummy’ series, I was excited for her latest novel.

We are introduced to Claire who like ‘Mummy’ is juggling a busy life that includes raising two precious moppets. Currently they are threatening at every turn to call Childline due to Claire serving them vegetables, homemade fish fingers and ‘inferior’ snacks. Her husband, Andrew, is unable to help with the children due to being Very Busy and Important.

Then Claire’s life goes into meltdown when she accidentally discovers that Andrew is having an affair with her best friend, Emily. They separate and she realises that she needs to find a new circle of friends given most of the couples she used to socialise with are uncomfortable with her single status.

After attending a disastrous book club meeting she bonds with other fleeing attendees over a bottle (or more) of wine. It’s not long before they dub themselves the Sauvignon Sisterhood and seek to challenge themselves to expand their horizons.

As expected the story is full of laugh out loud moments though there is also a degree of drama given that Claire has to not only confront a double betrayal but also establish a new life for herself and her children.

There were plenty of laughs and satirical digs at modern life, along with heart warming moments and yes, a few of the heartbreaking kind as well.

Overall, I totally loved it this effervescent celebration of friendship between women. The language is a bit earthy though that’s very much Sims’ style.

Highly recommended.

Having been a huge fan of the Why Mummy... series, I was so looking forward to reading this book and it didn't disappoint. Great characters you got into from the off. A great storyline that had you going from LOL moments to teary ones. Highly recommended!

Whenever you're feeling unappreciated there is no better cure than a few chapters of the latest Gill Sims. That's if you can stick to a few chapters, I know I certainly can't. This is a great read,, a coming together of women who would never normally be friends but discover they have one major thing in common, they are sick of coming last behind husbands, children, bosses. I couldn't put this down, I laughed and I cried along with Claire, Kate and Lucy. Gill Sims books should be available on prescription.

Claire’s family has gone nuclear. Her precious moppets keep calling Childline when she feeds them broccoli, she’s utterly Ottolenghied out at weekends, and her darling husband is having an affair with her best friend.
The question isn’t whether she needs a glass of wine, but is there one big enough?
Enter the Sauvignon Sisterhood, a new set of friends brought together by a shared love of liquid therapy. Together they might just be able to convince Claire that, like a good bottle of red, life really can get better with age. Or at least there’s more to it than the joy of an M&S non-iron school uniform.

God I love Gill Sims. As a single mother of four children, she could be writing my life and that’s what makes her books so enjoyable for me. I’m not alone!!! “The Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood” is the latest instalment in Claire’s hectically hilarious life. Fans of Gill Sims will have read her previous books, all of which were riotously funny and SO DAMN RELATABLE. The author nails the frazzled middle aged mother perfectly. Mothers everywhere will read this and relate and that’s why I love these books so much. Gill Sims writes the stuff we’re all probably thinking and feeling but won’t say out loud. Fans of this author will know her ‘Peter and Jane’ blog which is hilariously spot on and never fails to make me laugh.

I’d recommend this book to all exhausted mums and dads and for everyone who wants a light hearted read to make you giggle.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an unbiased review.
