Teenage girls going missing, years apart. Then one of them turns up brutally murdered, and Joona realises there's a serial killer on the loose. But nobody could ever begin to realise how dangerous the serial killer is... and how easily they can hide...

This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone - this is what I did, as I realised after I started reading that it was part of a series.

A gripping story that has some chilling parts, some parts even giving me goosebumps. A clever ending with a twist that will make you gasp out loud! This is the first I've read by this author, but definitely won't be the last.

I'd only got through the 1st few chapters when I was straight to amazon and downloaded the authors entire back catalogue because OMG! This is what every thriller aspires to be. It starts off at a breakneck pace and never let's up. The plot is completely unique and the characters are so well written and 3 dimensional. It's not a light hearted thriller, this is dark and edgy and literally gives you chills. As kuchen as it is a dark and creepy tale, there's no gore for shock value or pointless bloodshed. It's all completely relevant to the plot and even those with sensitive dispositions won't find it too much. I've read thrillers that were just vile and seemed to aim to be as stomach turning as possible and thankfully, this book manages to avoid that whilst still being suitably twisted! In the most classy way. It's just such a captivating ride and I can't wait to get stuck into tbe rest of the series. It definitely doesn't take anything away from this book if you hadn't read the previous. I really can't speak highly enough of it. Make sure you nap and get all your errands out the way before you start this one because once you start, you won't want to put it down til the end. There aren't and chapters that are just waffle to up the word count, it's all action and always serves to move the plot forward. This is the type of book that could easily be made onto a fil.m! It's complex and has multiple strands weaving through it. It also comes to an unexpected but satisfying end and doesn't feel rushed or leave a load of plot holes. Did I mention I loved it?! Absolutely recommend

Five years ago, Jenny Lind was abducted on her way home from school.

Now her lifeless body is found hanging in a playground. But there is no evidence and only one witness - a man who cannot remember what he saw.

With Detective Joona Linna and the police scrambling to find a lead, another girl goes missing. And as they close in on the killer, they discover that the Mirror Man's crimes are more shocking than they ever could have imagined . . .

“The Mirror Man” by Lars Kepler is the ninth instalment in the acclaimed Joona Linna and indeed, my first book by Lars Kepler. They’ve been on my radar for so long but I’ve never taken the plunge. I decided to do that with this latest book in the series and what an introduction to the series it was! Deep, dark and compelling, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The scenes are vividly brought to life which makes the reader feel a part of the story. Full of tension and suspense, I did not guess the outcome correctly, which to me personally, is the hallmark of a good whodunnit. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys police procedurals or who is fan of Nordic crime.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an unbiased review.

Although this is the 8th book in a series, I didn't feel like I missed much of the story having not read the others. There were obvious area's where I would have known what was going on between characters had I read the others but they didn't distract from the fascinating tale.
This book starts off at top speed and doesn't seem to slow down much all the way to the end. There are some hard to read parts involving many varieties of cruelty but they only add to the need to get to the end of the book and make everything OK again. As the story weaved it's way to being resolved I had my idea's about who it might be but I was so wrong and yet the answer made so much sense once it was revealed.
I really enjoyed this book and will be looking out for more in the series and not just to find out how many more similarities there are between our hero here and the masterful detective that is Sherlock Holmes.

This is the 8th book to feature Detective Joona Linna and what a read.Young girls are being abducted and held prisoner some for years but why? If they try to escape they are killed horrifcly. These girls are living in hell. Joona is broken after his last case when his daughter witnessed the other side of her father when he killed. Joona is a complex character, never lets something go, never wrong and a thorn in the side of his peers. As usual this series is gripping, heart stopping and not for the squeamish but always with an added dimension. The Mirror Man is on another level and I can't wait to read more from this very talented author.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

It's been a while since I've read Kepler, and I don't know why.
I've always enjoyed this series, but the last two books had passed me by.
So I was pleased to be back with Joona.
I'd forgotten how brutal he is, unless this book has picked up a notch, but it's very dark, with some shocking scenes.
It's twisty too, making me sit and exclaim "what" a few times.
Whilst I think this is as dark as I ever want a story to go, it's the surprise element that has me giving it a high rating.
That and the very clever mind of Joona Linna

This is without doubt the fastest I've ever read a book after being approved on NetGalley, after I stayed up reading late into the night to finish it! I have read a lot of books in this genre, but I can honestly say that the tension and creepiness in The Mirror Man is unrivalled. The killer’s MO and disturbing actions created a real uneasiness throughout this skilfully plotted thriller and at several points I seriously regretted reading this one in the dark.

Jenny Lind is abducted on her way home from school. Despite the clear description from an eyewitness, the search provides no further leads and is called off. Not long afterwards, a tragedy on an ice fishing trip leaves Pamela Nordstrom devastated. Five years later these two seemingly unrelated cases collide and Detective Joona Linna must work backwards to try and solve the old case before more girls go missing.

The Mirror Man had everything you would want and expect from a Nordic Noir thriller - Dark and complex storylines, interesting characters, a flawed but brilliant detective, incredible suspense and a well-thought-out conclusion. Every chapter was carefully considered, the investigation was twisted and compelling – an addictive page-turner and a fantastic addition to the series.

The Mirror man by Lars Kepler.
Detective Joona Linna book 8.
Seventeen-year-old Jenny is abducted in broad daylight and taken to a dilapidated, isolated house where she is chained and caged along with several other girls. Their captor is unpredictable, and as wily as he is cruel: he foils every one of their desperate attempts to escape . . . and once caught, they rarely survive their punishment.
This was a good read with good characters. Joona was my favourite. I hope there is more to come. 4*.
