it’s an interesting tackle on subjects which i feel like are not touched on too much in novels: climate change, real world politics, class consciousness, corporate greed, etc.

Green goddess is a satirical novel about the oil industry and its impact on various contemporary issues. The protagonist is Lindsey Harper who is a member of a family that owns the Crow Power Company. She is intelligent but not necessarily welcome the Crow family. Green goddess is the third novel in a series written by entrepreneur and consultant John Pepper.
Lindsay Harper’s daughter decides that she’s going to protest against her family’s role in the oil industry. She wants to show that she’s part of the protest and yet she doesn’t want to give up some of the privilege that her status in this family allows. Her father, on the other hand, is an arrogant and unintelligent person who loses his job as head of the company. His wife, Lindsay, takes over. Lindsay turns out to be a very competent woman, and she tries to fight a takeover from by another company that is trying to take over the Crow company by painting them as anti-environmentalist. Lindsey must fight this takeover by coming up with a new, innovative way of showing how forward thinking her company is. She hires a communication specialist who spins certain aspects of a company to make them look green.
I enjoyed the novel because it does have a lot of contemporary issues and yet it presents them all in a satirical and often funny manner. The story is unique because it’s a hysterical look at how companies will try to spin themselves as being quite environmentally friendly when in fact it is truly just spin. The upper classes seem to feel guilty about their privilege but will not give it up. The focus on climate change and how narratives often change to please the public makes the whole story very interesting and worthwhile reading.
The characters are sometimes quite shallow but this is part of the attractiveness of the novel. Lindsay Harper herself is quite involved with the business in spite of the fact that she comes from a different background and is not expected to succeed. All the other characters want to have a play a role but are quite superficial about it and they are not capable of leading.
I recommend this novel to people who are quite concerned about many of the contemporary issues that are dealt with in the story but are willing to look at them in a different light and with sometimes a humorous slant. I give this novel on a four and five. I want to thank Net Galley and the author for allowing me to have a digital copy of this novel. I give this review voluntarily.

This is a very good series. My. Pepper clearly understands corporate corruption and drama. I hope to see much more of the Crowe family in the future.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance read.
