I love a romance and this was perfection! This author has quickly become a favourite of mine! A great well written book with great chemistry

Mazey Eddings is quietly creeping up on my list of romance authors I can rely on! Though I read this series in a weird order, having read the newest one first, and then this one, while entirely skipping out the second, I have enjoyed them each time, and will definitely endeavour to get to them all! I thought the concept of the love interest being fellow dental students was really sweet, and not something I had come across before - and I really liked how it was used as a vessel for them to spend lots of time together, building up the tension between them until it just got too much! I thought their respective circumstances were handled well, and though I didn't love the ridiculousness of their third-act breakup, I appreciated their reunion and how their friends came together to make sure it happened.

I unfortunately could not get into this book. But this might be for another type of reader, and wish the best for the writers.

I’m going to be honest, the dentist scares me a little bit because needles and pain BUT I thought it was such a unique choice of profession for our characters and I couldn’t resist picking this up!

I could really relate to Harper on the anxiety front and it’s such a breath of fresh air to see so much anxiety rep when it was so scarce before! It’s so nice to see myself, even if it isn’t exactly the same kind of anxiety as I have but I digress! I just thought it was perfectly done and it was honestly my favourite part!

I really liked Harper, I also liked Dan and I was rooting for them from the start! They had some great banter and they were quite sweet!

I think this is a really cute, easy to read book if you’re in the mood for something fluffy and sweet!

A Brush With Love @mazeyeddings a NetGalley review. Harper is focused on achieving her dental dreams. However Harper has built up wall after wall after her mothers death as a child. However she has never really got over her mothers death and this becomes more apparent when she meets Dan, whom is also hurting after the death of his father. This isn’t a book I would normally read, sadly over looking it simply because I would judge a book by it’s cover, but for whatever reason I did choose to read and I can’t recommend it enough. I loved , loved , loved it and I can’t recommend it enough. I loved that as well as a romance novel, it’s about mental health, which it deals with openly and honestly. This is why people shouldn’t judge romance novels because they deal with deeper issues, than simply romance. Harper and Dan are great characters and beautifully written. Harper is determined, strong, focused, vulnerable and intelligent, yet she’s struggling with her mental health and having panic attacks. Dan is patient, kind, lost and strong. They are characters that feel real and loveable.
There’s no doubt that this book deals with some tough subjects, yet it is funny and lighthearted in places, it’s a book that will keep you guessing as to will they won’t they. It’s full of passion, the characters have such sexual chemistry it jumps off the pages. I couldn’t stop reading this book and yet I didn’t want it to ever end, it’s up there as one of the best books this year, for me an unexpected triumph.it has a rawness and honesty to it which doesn’t often happen with books and this is a credit to the authors writing. I can’t wait to see what else this author has to offer and will be recommending this to everyone, it’s an amazing thought provoking, romantic read and deserves ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"How was she supposed to date when even the simplest things threatened to disrupt her emotional equilibrium? How was she supposed to regularly and willfully plunge herself into the heart palpitations and a churning stomach that came with opening herself up to someone? And how was she supposed to expect another person to see her chaotic ugliness and still want to be with her? There was no point in setting herself up for failure."

This book was interesting. I certainly was not expecting this book to be deeply explore grief and having anxiety. I appreciated the fact that not only did this book explore those themes, but also dealt with how to cope with– control methods, removing the sigma around therapy etc. This was essentially the backdrop for this cute, sometimes cliche, romance. There was spice, romance and a chance to break away from the fears we never knew we had.

I liked Harper. She's headstrong, has aspirations and goals in life, and all she wants to do is get there. I wasn't too invested in Dan– he was an okay love-interest. Their romance was fun. They fall for each other pretty quickly and the romance that blooms from that was enjoyable to read about to an extent. Unfortunately, at times it felt a little lacklustre and some of the pages came across as filler pages that add nothing to the overall story. I wasn't 100% invested in the book entirely, and even had to take a break from reading because I feared it would land me in a reading slump.

If the synopsis sounds like your cup of tea (mouth wash?) then I would still recommend giving this book a try. It's got a lot of good representation and messages behind it– it just wasn't enough for me to rate it higher than 3 stars.

2.5 stars.

Thank you to Macmillan and NetGalley who provided me with an eARC of A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings in exchange for an honest book review.

3.5 stars
After seeing quite a few 5 star reviews of this book, I was excited to give it a read.
However, a few things just didn't work for me.
Maybe I had too high expectations, both from seeing reviews and the comparisons that it has had to Ali Hazelwood's STEM romance series.
I did like how cute they were as a couple, even if they seemed a lot younger than they were meant to be.
It was also a unique setting for a romance/rom com too, which I appreciated.
However, there's insta-love and declaring that you're in love way too prematurely. And that's what happened in this. It was just too quick for me.
I did like the fact that it touched on important issues quite well but a lot of the dialogue didn't feel all that realistic or true of how people actually talk.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Not for me unfortunately. I didn’t find this easy to get into and just stopped reading it so no review

I thought this was going to give me Ali Hazelwood vibes but instead it just had me cringing more than anything else. It does get such good reviews though so now i’m doubting myself and wondering if it was just timing!

Anxiously awaiting news from the residency program of her dreams, dental student Harper Horowitz is laser focused. So crashing (quite literally) into Dan Craige is exactly the sort of dreamy distraction that she is trying to avoid.

First-year student Dan may not have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does, but he's instantly smitten. When Harper makes it clear that she's not interested in trading fillings for feelings anytime soon, they set out to be 'just friends' - a plan with the best of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs.

Late nights in the dental lab (and the rather unsubtle match-making efforts of their friends), draw Dan and Harper closer. Still, Harper can't shake the worry that a romance with Dan might risk everything she's worked so hard to build.

Harper may have no trouble acing her studies, but falling in love is a whole new challenge.

I loved this book!! I really took my time reading it as I didn’t want it to end too quickly.
Dan, in particular, is a fantastic character and now joins Adam (The Love Hypothesis) and Scott (Set on You) as new Book Boyfriends 😍
Harper is a very driven person and really struggles to cope with studying and having a relationship. I thought her anxiety and panic attacks were well written. As someone who suffers with both of these, I really appreciated the representation of just how scary they are and that you think you’ll never claw your way out.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 big stars from me 👍🏻
Thank you to @netgalley and @mazeyeddings for my ecopy 💙

Love love loved this!!

It had everything I love in a contemporary romance, adorable characters, brilliant friends, a man to die for and some excellent representation - in this case Anxiety.

The dental school setting was brilliant and I loved how quickly we saw Harper and Dans connection.

Brilliant and can’t wait for book 2 from Mazey!

A Brush With Love by Mazey Eddings

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Headline and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she crashes (literally) into Dan. Harper would rather endure a Novocaine-free root canal than face any distractions, even one this adorable.

A first-year dental student with a family legacy to contend with, Dan doesn’t have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does. Though he finds himself falling for her, he is willing to play by Harper’s rules.

So with the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs, the two set out to be “just friends.” But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is.

This is a sweet and adorable, light-hearted read. The way Mazey had depicted Harper's anxiety it was very easy to see why she kept pushing Dan away. I read over 60% of this during my lunch break and I really struggled to break off at that point - I had become too invested in Dan and Harper. A compassionate read that will play with your emotions.

Rating 4/5

This book follows Harper, a dental student who meets Dan, a fellow dental student and the rest is history.

This book owns my entire heart, I can't explain how much I loved this. Harper's anxiety was so authentically written, I've never seen anxiety written so truthfully like that before.

Dan was just the most perfect person ever and he gave me major Jess from Gilmore Girls vibes, I loved him so much. Adding him to the top of my book boyfriend list ASAP.

Harper's friendship group was also a highlight of this book, it was so nice to see a group with clear boundaries but also they knew when it was time to stop pretending and really help their friend sort it out. I adored them all and I already can't wait to get a physical copy and force everybody to read this.

I gave this book 5 stars :)

I loved, loved, loved A Brush with Love! It is witty and entertaining, emotional and heartbreaking. I adored the story and I adored the characters and it is one of my favorite books of the year.

The story is told from the points of views of the two protagonists. Harper is about to graduate. She studies day and night and she is at the top of her class. She can’t afford any distraction. Enter Dan. After leaving a career in finance, he in his first year of dental studies. Unlike Harper, he is not passionate about a career in dental hygiene, but he had vowed to carry on his father’s practice and legacy. Their attraction is immediate, but, as mentioned, Harper is focused on her studies and she doesn’t have time for anything else so she wants to be just friends, but Dan wants something more. The more time they spend together, the less Harper can’t deny her feelings for him, but will she be able to overcome her fears?

Harper and Dan are incredible, adorable, authentic characters. They are flawed, under pressure, still suffering from their past and I loved them so much! Harper is a girl after my own heart. I adored this character. Of course, I loved the character of Dan, too, but Harper is the one I felt more related to. I really felt for her. I understood her fears, her obsession, her social anxieties. She was authentic and real and I loved how she developed throughout the story. I also enjoyed Dan’s development and growth. He’s so adorable and sweet!

A Brush with Love is one of those books that captured from the first page and kept me so engrossed that I keep thinking about it days after I finished reading it. There is romance and friendship and it perfectly tackles themes of mental health and social anxiety. The story is beautiful, well-written, and addictive and I already know it’s one of these books that I will reread in the future.

I really didn’t enjoy this story. I thought the dentist setting would be like most other contemporary romance settings where it’s just used for background noise but this really leaned into the dentistry setting and that was something that wasn’t for me. I don’t mind going to the dentists at all it’s never bothered me but even I found the quite visual descriptions of teeth extractions and surgeries along side romantic moments to be strange and off putting. I think this would be a great book for someone who wants less romance and more womens fiction issues in their stories.

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren & Sally Thorne! A Brush With Love is sweet, funny, with characters who leap from the page.

I really enjoyed this book. Friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes and it’s duel pov! The representation is really good, as I sufferer of anxiety myself, I felt myself relating to Harper which scared me a little. I think I have been used to reading books in first person that I struggled reading third and struggled to get into it, though I am definitely going to be reading more from the author.
