This is a great mystery/suspense thriller! I loved the twists and premise of the book. I really enjoyed it!

This was one heck of a thriller. From beginning to end, I was trying to guess what was gonna happen, and I cannot put the book down. One of the best books I read in a long time. I highly recommend it if you love thrillers, and I would highly recommend it to friends and family as well. Can’t wait to read more books from this author in the future.

Make Me Disappear hooked me right away! I've been in a reading slump and I loved the start of this fast-paced thriller. The style reminded me of a Frieda McFadden book, an author I really enjoy. However, by midway, the story became very predictable and I was surprised I figured out the ending so early on. I kept hoping for a twist I didn't see coming. I thought Daniel's chapters were great and I would've liked more of them. To be honest, I was kind of rooting for him. The ending was pretty cheesy although all loose ends were tied up. I didn't love this one, but I do think I'd like to check out more of the author's future works.

Listened to this on on audio. Not keen on US accents but then again I didn't realise the author was from there so made sense. Thought this was going to be the usual creepy partner, emotional abuse etc but it became much more than that. Wasn't expecting the ending. Kept me entertained. Enjoyed being part of the blog tour for this one and will definitely be looking out for more books by this author.

The twists and turns of this book are crazy.

Noelle is in a controlling relationship with Daniel.
She plans to get away and that plan goes awry. You go through the book not knowing who to trust and who to believe.

Jessica Payne knocked it out of the park with her debut book.

What a great book! I love everything by this author and this book was no different! I couldn't put this down and was up all night waiting to see how it ended!

This was an utterly bizarre read all in all. It’s a fast paced book and easy to read. I read in one sitting.

Noelle is a nurse and her boyfriend works at the same hospital. He is utterly irresistible and the perfect boyfriend material. That is, until he begins controlling and gaslighting her. He is desperate to marry her but she begins to have doubts.

Daniel is obsessed with pleasing his mother. It becomes incredibly OTT. The writing style left a sour taste in my mouth as it ended up with a cat and mouse type chase across the country. The ending was also very predictable.

I absolutely loved this a solid 4 star read. It was twisty and intriguing everything I love about a book. Will be recommending this one

Makes Me Disappear was an exciting, gripping psychological thriller. I couldn’t put this one down. It’s so hard for me to believe this was a debut. Looking forward to more books from this author.

This book was so over the top but I loved it. The plot was something I hadnt heard of before so it made it so much more interesting . It moves at a very fast pace.

Holy moly this was a wild, twisty ride that I read in a day and absolutely devoured! The audio for this was great, and I enjoyed the POV from Daniel and Noelle. Could you imagine arranging your own kidnapping because you can’t get away from your boyfriend? I couldn’t either but alas, here we are and that isn’t even the craziest thing in this story.

I will just leave it at that, this is a debut from Jessica Payne and it is nuts! So well done, the twists are chef’s kiss, and my jaw was dropped open a few times throughout. It doesn’t get much better than this for sure. I have bought a physical copy of this one for my shelves and added her second book to my list already.

This was a new author for me. I loved parts of the book, I did find it a bit slow and drawn out to get to the plot. I had read such great reviews but my experience was a bit different. Could have been shortened slightly. Liked the book but didn't love as much as I had hoped.

This book was a solid 3.5 for me. This book was wholly original, wild, and a tad far-fetched but I enjoyed every minute! I loved the switch in POV from Noelle to Daniel!

I really appreciated how twisty this psychological thriller is. I never knew what was coming and Daniel was really scary. Noelle drove me a bit crazy with her choices, but she was entertaining to read about. Make Me Disappear was a real page turner.

That is the opening of the book, Noelle’s point of view, and the time is NOW. She is a cardiac nurse. “He” is Dr. Daniel Ashcroft, an anaesthesiologist, handsome, popular, and rich. He’s also a darling of many charities.

So what does he see in her? She doesn’t know, but he seems truly smitten, keen to know what she’s doing and where she goes. She’s beginning to think he may be a little too keen. She had an abusive boyfriend in the past, which makes her wary now.

The story is told in first person from both Noelle’s and Daniel’s points of view. I was pleased that the author introduced each chapter with the character’s name and the timeline. The timeline goes back to 14 months ago and moves forward a month or so in subsequent chapters, alternating with now, today.

It is easy to follow, because of the introductions, and the content of their internal monologues.

Her best friend, Kari, is another nurse and she has no time for Daniel at all. They talk and text all the time, so Kari is always up to speed with what is happening in the relationship.

“Kari’s been right all along. ‘He’s bad news, Noelle’, and ‘Why would a man like him be interested in a woman like you?’ She hadn’t meant it to be mean. She’d been honest. And she knows men better than I do, knows that a woman once a victim is twice as easy to victimize again. But my aunt had adored Daniel, and I adored him, and he was so perfect in the beginning.”

Daniel lives in a glamorous, ultra-modern house, unlike Noelle’s tiny apartment and Kari’s small, cluttered house. When he first began earning big money, he bought his mother, Eve, a house on Puget Sound. [Incidentally, it is always referred to here as “the” Puget Sound, a phrase I’ve never heard, although I have family living there. I must ask them about that.]

Daniel’s early interest is attractive, so Noelle takes with good grace his suggestions on what to wear when visiting his mother: conservative, modest, but smart clothing. No jeans and sandals. He takes her to dinner every Friday night at “their” restaurant (his favourite, not hers) to sit in their booth.

She starts getting annoyed when he greets her with a frown because of her casual look, even if she has just come off duty at the hospital where they both work. She tells Kari everything.

Daniel begins taking her to Sunday dinners with his mother – the pressure is on to name the date.

“DANIEL . . .
My mother has already given me my grandmother’s ring. I have a plan to keep you close.
Soon, Noelle, you’ll be mine.”

Daniel’s monologues get creepier as the book goes on, while Noelle’s get more anxious. There are some suspicious deaths, disappearances, and then a kidnapping.

“The tea falls from my hand, splattering on the ground. I turn around. I walk away. There is nowhere I am safe.
. . .
The reality is I cannot escape Daniel. This knowledge settles inside me with certainty. He knows too many people. He has too much money, has his claws sunk too far, too deep for me to get away.”

This isn’t my kind of read, but I’m sure it will find many fans. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the preview copy from which I’ve quoted (so quotes may have changed).

I was very intrigued by the premise of this one and enjoyed some elements, however I did find the storyline quite convoluted in parts. Whilst it didn’t quite work for me, I understand why it will for many other thriller readers.

Noelle is planning her escape from her abusive boyfriend in this thrilling novel by Jessica Payne. I was captivated throughout the entire story and I felt that the plot moved in a natural and interesting way while still keeping that element of excitement and mystery throughout. I thought that the plot twist was very well done and there are definitely enough clues for the reader to guess the twist without it being too obvious.

Make me Disappear is told in dual narrative by Noelle and Daniel, it's a fast paced read with short chapters and, even though parts of it beggar belief, that somehow made me more intrigued as to what the outcome would be. I took an instant dislike to Daniel, but could see why he was like that as soon as the author introduced his mother, so I also felt a little sorry for him by the end of the story. I loved the cat and mouse game that ensued between Noelle and Daniel and the twists that the author threw into the mix to keep the reader hooked. The story is very well written and hard to believe that this is the authors debut novel, I think Jessica Payne is definitely one to watch out for in the future
