This was a cute story! I loved all of the heartfelt moments from the family. I loved that book featured a couple in their 40s.

A brilliant story about trying to create a new blended family.

Jenny has two sons, Dan has two daughters and they are both single parents, after divorcing their partners.

They meet at a school event, and sparks fly and between some snatched moments, and making out like teenagers in the back seat of a car, well Jenny discovers she's pregnant.

Only it was never meant to be anything more than just fun, and now we get to see how they attempt to deal with their current children, getting them used to the idea, and working out how to navigate their relationship with a baby on the way.

There are so many fabulous moments in this book, as we watch the four children who all have rather different personalities try to well get used to the situation, while also scheming for their own purposes.

I loved seeing how all of this develops and I also loved Jenny's job as she runs a cake making business.. and there is rather a lot of cake!

A really enjoyable story, featuring a very modern family set up. I loved it a lot.

Thank you to Orion Dash and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This book and I did not mess well. It has taken me a looooong time to even finish it. This is a case of it's not the book, it's me! I think the book might be great for other people who like this type, but it didn't reel me in :(

I appreciated the fact that the story line is not one that is common. Middle aged, divorce, blended families, step children, etc.
Definitely was sad when it was over. A book I would recommend to someone looking for a light, "fluffy" read that doesn't weigh you down.

The blended family aspect of this story was really enjoyable to read, and really well written. This is a quick and easy read I think people from a blended family or single parents will enjoy and resonate with.

An enjoyable easy read.

One filled with family, love and guinea pigs!

I really liked the blended family dynamics.

It was all very realistic and I found myself laughing through a lot of it as it was also comedically plausible.

A great story for when you're looking to get yourself out of a reading slump.

Great characters that have a great back story and personality
Good POV and well written
There is a great connection between Dan and Jenny and you def need to read this for all the sweet, fun, and messy details of their story.

A blended family, cutesy romance. Hectic lives, work and children can't keep our male and female characters away from each other. This was just an okay read but not something I'm going to want to read again.

Laurie Ellingham’s Just the Six of Us captures the messiness of love, family, and self discovery in adulthood in this heartwarming unconventional romance.
That being said, I do feel that the romance took the backseat in what became more of a family story— which I was certainly not opposed to. I just found that I was anticipating more of the main couple, rather than beginning the book with feelings already established, complicated as they were. Switching between perspectives per chapter, it was fascinating to see each side of what became a rather emotionally complex story, coming to understand both of their values as individuals and how they work as a pair. I greatly enjoy dual POVs for this reason, and I think it was done quite well in Just The Six of Us.
Despite not containing any sexual or overtly mature content, Just the Six of Us felt far more grown up than most romance novels. Focusing on the realities of love, life, parenting, and pregnancy, there was little room for anything else, including the butterflies of a blossoming romance. The focus falls more family than anything else, but the realistic take of second chances after marriage was an interesting one that we don’t often see in the romance genre.
Despite not being in the demographic for this book, I do think it is a worthwhile read, especially for those within the target audience who can relate to the portrayals of marriage and blended family. I would, however, hesitantly label this as a romance in the traditional sense. The true focus was on the family as a unit, without much tile devoted to the lead pairing themselves.
To me, the true star of the novel was Amelia, Dan’s teenage daughter. I will admit she got on my nerves in the early chapters of the novel, but even with her somewhat limited page time I found myself quite invested in her development and would have greatly appreciated seeing more of her side of the story. Jack, Jenny’s oldest, also felt rather sidelined despite his outwardly complex demeanour and insecurities. Especially with alternating perspectives, I’d have loved to see the leads interacting with each others children in more one on one settings. For a book balancing so many characters, I did feel bereft of certain dynamics I’d hoped to see explored a little more.
Overall, I enjoyed Just The Six of Us well enough despite being quite far from the target audience; however, I did find it a little slow and found myself wanting more connection between the characters.

Cute simple single parent love story. Not much more to it beyond that. It just didn't capture me like I love a book to.

I found Just the Six of Us to be a lovely story about blending families and the unknowns of finding love in your 40s. The family dynamics were truly authentic and the struggles that the couple faced were very relatable! An unexpected pregnancy is bound to throw a wrench in anyone’s plans, but it certainly was life altering for the Walker and Travis families.

At times the read was a little slow, but overall it was dramatic and kept my attention. I loved how the story wrapped up and gave us a beautiful HEA!

please see comment in notes for publisher - ebooks in vertical format are virtually unreadable because of the built in system of hyperlinks that bring the reader to the beginning of the book when you click on a point on the top or sides of the ebook.

This was a cute book. It was fun and the characters were really likable. I liked that there wasn’t a high level of misunderstanding and it’s nice to see blended families getting more representation.

This was a solid 3.5 ⭐️

This was a quick read. I could see how others could relate to this, but I couldn't. I couldn't connect to the characters. Though it does show an appreciation of mixed/blended families and the struggle of single parents, dating and more. Which I don't see alot of in books.

Overall, I thought this was a decent read.

What a delightful read! The story of 2 singles trying to juggle new romance with step children and ex's. Laugh out loud, Laurie has brought the mundane situations of life to hilarious heights. I couldn't put it down.
