I listened to the audio version of this which made a change for me. I’m not sure if I found it harder to listen to rather than read. I found it slow to get into but then it did improve and I really enjoyed it. Well written from different perspectives

Enjoyable thriller. I listened to the audiobook which was good but the three female narrators sounded far too alike so had no idea who was who. We follow a surgeon whose child is kidnapped and will not be returned unless she kills a politician who is having heart surgery with her. We also follow a nurse who is at the surgery who has fallen on hard times and is stealing from her co workers. Finally we follow a policewoman who is investigating the surgeon. The policewoman son went missing years before and is an underlying tension with her work colleagues. It was a tense read and the first half was very good. Felt the ending was the weakest part but still enjoyable .

Note to netgalley- the audiobook app needs to be smoother. The voices all end up sounding robotic. Bit off putting!

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Audio UK for an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have very mixed feelings about this book, on one hand the concept was enjoyable, it was a clever and unique one that I've never read before. But I also feel that it could've been executed a lot better. The majority of the action happens at the start and at the end, so in the middle very little happens and the book starts to drag, I didn't really feel any suspense from this thriller apart from the one operating room scene but that was all. This definitely wasn't one of my favourite thrillers I've read so far, but it was interesting nonetheless.

Do No Harm is one of those books that gets you wondering what you would do in a situation like the main character is in. Especially if you're a parent. The moral dilemma covered in the book was fascinating and thought provoking, words I very rarely associate with a thriller book.
Facing the ultimate dilemma, Anna, a heart surgeon must make a decision that would affect not only the life of the patient but of many people, including her young Son. The author did a fantastic job of making the reader feel the pressure that Anna was under and her desperation poured from the pages.
This is a fast paced, tense thriller that will leave you questioning how far you'd go to protect a loved one.

Thank you to NetGalley, SImon & Schuster UK Audio and Jack Jordan for an audio ARC in return for an honest review.

A VIP patient has come in for cardiac surgery, there’s just one problem.. the surgeons child has been kidnapped and to get him back she has to murder the VIP during the operation. It is the only way to get her son back.

I have read my fair share of medical thrillers and the majority of them are not accurate or completely off. However, I was throughly improved with the medical procedures and terminology used.

‘Do No Harm’ is fast paced from the get go. It is dark, thrilling and a little scary. This is a constant page-turner from the start. The narrators; Lucy Paterson, Sarah Feathers and Jane Collingwood we’re perfectly chosen and suited the characters well.

The plot was enjoyable and stays with you after you have finished reading. Highly recommend, maybe not if you’re just about to go into hospital!

I listened to this on audiobook and it was enthralling!
I couldn’t stop listening to it as I needed to know what was going to happen!
The narrators were very good, great use of emotion in the storytelling which caught me holding my breath a few times!
The story was quite far fetched but that’s no problem for me, books aren’t meant to be real life.
I can highly recommend this as an audiobook.

Do No Harm is going to do you, yes you the reader a lot of harm!
Oh you will find this so riveting that your whole day is going to circle around this book.

Switch off your devices, phones, iPad, put up a “do not disturb “ grab a coffee and some snacks and settle down…..but only for a minute until Jack Jordan gets you uncomfortable again! On the edge of your seat and biting your nails.

It’s a dilemma that you could ask yourself if you were in this surgeons shoes.

What would you do?

Read it, let me know.

Another fabulous read from Jack.
He may only write every so often but all of his books are well worth the wait.

Found this to be a slow burn which was a pity but still an engaging storyline. Told from 3 different perspectives- Anna the surgeon, Margot who works with Anna and Rachel the detective which gives you an insight into 3 different ways of life. Characters are a little like marmite you either love them or hate them. Rachel I liked and mostly liked Margot but Anna I found it so hard to like even when taking her situation into account. The storyline was an interesting one but very much veered on the side of unbelievable and far fetched at times. Found the narration engaging and it helped to hold my attention when I found the pace slow. I have mixed emotions on this one.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

Thanks to Netgalley and Slmon Schuster UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC that is due to be published on the 26th of May 2022.

Do No Harm by Jack Jordan
Narrated by Lucy Paterson,Sarah Feathers and Jane Collingwood
I give this audiobook 5 stars

The man lies on the table in front of me.
As a surgeon, it’s my job to save him.
As a mother, I know I must kill him.
You might think that I’m a monster.
But there really is only one choice.
I must get away with murder.
Or I will never see my son again.

WOW……what a standout medical thriller.l read the first chapter and was totally hooked.Brimming with non stop action,a few moral dilemmas and an abundance of twists. The story told from 3 female perspectives races along at break neck speed and the author is relentless with ramping up the tension.l was blown away by this and Jack Jordan is definitely an author to look out for…..an absolute must read for 2022!
I listened to this as an audiobook and loved the sinister music at the start.l think the 3 female narrators had distinctive voices that worked well and the pace was perfect .l thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and it enhanced my reading experience as it really brought the storyline to life.

This is the first novel I have read by Jack Jordan, and I have never heard of him before. I must have been hiding under a rock again, as plenty of people have! This was another tremendous looking thriller / medical novel that looked really interesting.

Based on three female characters, Jack Jordan doesn’t waste any time jumping straight into the story, and it moves with quite a pace. In addition, it is cleverly narrated from the three different perspectives, drawing you in instantly.

Dr Anna Jones is a cardiothoracic surgeon at the top of her game, about to perform one of the most significant operations of her career. A triple bypass on local MP Ahmed Shabir tipped to be the future leader of his party. Anna is also a devoted mother to her son Zack. At seven years old, she returns home one day to find him missing and her neighbour, who was caring for him, dead. She must kill the MP if she ever wants to see her son alive again, but it goes against the Hippocratic oath, Do No Harm.

Margot Barnes works at the same hospital and scrubs in with Dr Anna Jones. With various personal issues, including struggling to make ends meet, she sees what happens and decides to take advantage of her own needs.

Detective Inspector Rachel Conaty, also suffering from personal issues, though of a different kind, cannot remain professional when she discovers a body with links to Dr Jones.

Do No Harm examines numerous moral dilemmas alongside some fascinating characters and some clever twists. The plot is tense, dark and unpredictable. An action-packed, suspenseful ride that twists like a rollercoaster. I loved it!

I listened to the audiobook version, brilliantly narrated by Lucy Paterson, Sarah Feathers and Jane Collingwood.

I've heard great things on social media and was keen to read a Jack Jordan book.

The cover and the premise was immediately appealing - a heart surgeon is told she must kill a patient on the operating table or the people who have kidnapped her 8 year old son take his life. It was a life for a life and really she had no choice but to yield to their demands.

The main character frustrated me a little, she seemed quite cold and calculated although as is explained later on, in those sorts of jobs you have to compartmentalise and think with your head and not your heart. At first I thought it was going to be a political thriller but the plot turned into one from an action movie, a little unrealistic but thoroughly enjoyable.

The narration was excellent I have to say, despite none of the characters being that likeable. The only one I felt sorry for was the policewoman who seemed to have the wool completely pulled over her eyes.

I look forward to reading another Jack Jordan book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this title.

Dr Anna Jones, a cardiac thoracic surgeon, arrives home after a hospital shift and her life and ethics are thrown into disarray. Her son, Zach, has been kidnapped and the only way that he will be returned to her safe and well is if she kills a high profile patient whilst performing surgery on him.

The story moves between the point of view of Dr Anna Jones, Margot a cardiac theatre scrub nurse and the detective Rachel Conaty. All three women driven by their different desperations. The story is a rollercoaster ride moving at pace and took twists that I didn’t see coming at all.

I thoroughly enjoyed Do No Harm and will take definitely keep an eye out for other Jack Jordan books. Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, SImon & Schuster UK Audio, for making this audio-ARC available to me.

What a rollercoaster this one is. Whilst feeling painfully sorry for the protagonist, I can’t help but thoroughly dislike her. Margot, however, who you should dislike, is quite a likeable character. Chuck in a few drug dealers and a politician and you’ve got quite a tale. I actually listened to the whole thing in a day it was so good

I was immediately drawn to the premise of this book - a heart surgeon is told she must kill a patient on the operating table or her 8 year old son will be murdered. The dilemma between upholding the Hippocratic oath (“first do no harm”) and a mother’s love for her child was such a gripping concept and I really wanted to love the story.

Unfortunately I just couldn’t connect with any of the characters. The introduction of two other points of view gave the story slightly more interest, but to me all of the characters just felt a bit flat and two dimensional.

I did appreciate the inclusion of trichotillomania in one of the characters as it is a mental health condition that’s rarely spoken about.

I listened to an audiobook of this title provided by NetGalley and the publisher. The narrators did their best to bring drama to the story but their voices didn’t sound different enough from each other to me so it wasn’t always immediately easy to know who’s point of view we were hearing from.

I'm not typically the biggest fan of thrillers but I really enjoyed this. Well narrated, and full of twists, and utterly brutal! The premise of the book, Anna's ultimatum, is just the first few chapters!

4.75⭐️

The cover is stark, crisp, clinical and very effective.
This is my first book by this author. I had the 🎧audiobook version with a cast of narrators, Lucy Patterson, Sarah Feathers and Jane Collingwood. They put a lot of emotion into the characters, adding tension to the plot.

I loved the premise of this book. A heart surgeon must kill a patient to ensure that her kidnapped son (Zach) doesn’t die!

It starts with a great hook, introducing the reader at the end of a coronary bypass surgery. It immediately grabbed my interest.

It is told by 3 POV surgeon Dr Anna Jones, DI Rachel Conaty, and Margot the cardiac theatre scrub nurse.

The characters are well developed, Anna comes across as stand offish and cold with her colleagues, but you can feel her love for her son Zach even though he feels that he often takes 2nd place. Non of the characters are very likeable. My favourite was Margot.

I was concerned that once the ‘main’ event had happened that the rest would be a let down. But that’s not the case! It was only the beginning of this action packed medical crime thriller. The pace is fast, there’s lots going on with twists and turns and some action to keep the reader engaged.

Favourite quote ‘To fix a heart you have to thrust it towards deaths door’

This is a great book, the pace was constantly fast, very cleverly done. A shock at the end too.
I highly recommend it.

This book gave me anxiety and went in totally unexpected directions on several occasions.

We followed three flawed characters, two of which were deeply unlikeable. I thought the writing was fantastic and the pace was perfect. I felt that there was some back story missing for some of the characters and I'm unsure if I like how the story ended. But other than that I thought this was a brilliant thriller with an excellent and thought provoking premise. It's definitely interesting to consider how you would act if impossible circumstances are thrust upon you.

All in all I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves a rip riding thriller and I'll certainly be checking out other books from this author.

WOULD YOU TRUST ME WITH YOURS?

‘Do No Harm’ by Jack Jordan was, for me, a bit of a let down. The premise is brilliant and the book started off very well, full of promise of intrigue but then it started to verge in to the ridiculous. And I know it’s fiction, the point of which is make believe but a few things bothered me. A divorced, single mum who works for the NHS, albeit as their top surgeon, crosses paths with a foreign terrorist/kidnap group. People are executed, demands are made and this rather unhinged surgeon must save the day.

As I said, I fully understand the point of fiction and escapism but for me, I need a little realism too. I felt that this particular plot veered into the far fetched a little too much and spoiled the reading experience for me.

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an arc in exchange for an unbiased review.
