Wow! Congratulations, Jack Jordan, this is a riveting compulsive listen. At times it was a squeamish listen, but, nothing that isn't necessary within the tale of a competent heart surgeon put in an impossible position; alongside a nurse who is experiencing her own challenges and a female detective working on a murder investigation who holds her own, dark, secret.

All three females are written so perfectly and the switch between each storyline is gripping. I practically listened in one sitting / walking, so gripped was I by all three situations and the switch between timelines and characters was executed perfectly. It's brilliantly narrated and has piqued my interest in audio books as a medium.

I felt the storyline and writing style had a Martina Cole / Lynda La Plante / James Patterson feel and I literally struggled to stop listening.

Anna the heart surgeon could be a frustrating character at times - I even shouted at her out loud! But, it in no way took away from my enjoyment and actually added to the authenticity of the listen. It's perfectly constructed with a fabulous, well wrapped up ending.

This is a wonderful story, so well told and it would make a fabulous film. Congratulations to the author and thanks so much to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster audio for the opportunity to enjoy.

I couldn’t want to read this one. I thought the story sounded like it had so much promise and I was expecting lots of twists and turns.
Unfortunately I ended up being fairly disappointed. I found it quite repetitive, slow paced and predictable. I also found the ending very strange. Although I liked some aspects of the ending (I won’t say more as I don’t want to give any spoilers) I thought the last couple of sentences were just a bit weird.
I did like the characters in this book. Anna Jones in particular was complex, a loving mother, but also cold and calculating at times.

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW WOW. Do not miss this audiobook or read the book. It is sooo well written, completely gripping so make sure you set aside many hours so that you can greedily devour it in one swoop.

I had seen amazing reviews from early readers of this book and was really hoping that it would live up to the hype and, my goodness, it totally does! Featuring three formidable but flawed female characters and brilliantly narrated for the audiobook I was thoroughly drawn in to the stories of Dr Anna Jones, Margot and the police woman Rachel Conarty. Each character was carefully and deftly crafted and I fully bought in to each one of their chapters. I thought that the surgeon's choice of whether or not to kill her patient was going to be the main focus of this book but actually it is just the initial element and there is so much more to this story. Absolutely loved listening to it even though I was tense throughout the entire book...!! Fantastic thriller and now one of my absolutely auto-buy authors. Well done Jack Jordan - you are the king of thriller writing in my opinion!

I have read this authors other books and enjoyed them but I struggled with this one. I didn’t really like the main character and couldn’t relate to her at all. I found it quite long drawn out and it didn’t keep my attention

This is one of the very few audio books I've had from Netgalley where I wished I'd read it instead. I loved the premise of the story - the question whether you could justify doing something bad to save a loved one - and had heard loads about it with rave reviews so was really excited to listen to it.

However, right from the beginning this was ruined for me by the narrator who reads the part of Dr Anna Jones. I found that she dramatised every single word, which actually took away from the drama when it happened. I nearly gave up on listening as it irritated me so much, and had it not been for the alternating perspectives giving some relief, I may have done so.

However, aside from the narration I found the storyline fast paced and gripping. The inclusion of a child meant I really wanted to get to the end. I wasn't sure on the chapters involving the police inspector - I enjoyed them at first but felt like it never really went anywhere.

I think had I read the book itself, I would have rated this book higher than I will do and may pick a copy up to give it a go sometime.

‘Do No Harm’ follows a renowned surgeon who is forced to murder a politician on the operating table by a drugs cartel to have her young son Zak, returned to her after they kidnapped him. Breaking the Hippocratic Oath that she had sworn, was by no means easy but compared to living her life without her son, there was no other choice.
A medley of mishaps leads the way through this nightmare story of addiction, abduction and assassination.

Things I loved:

- Multiple perspectives - loved that it was an all female cast & each of them I loved & hated in equal measure
- The storyline was great! It was fast paced & left you wanting to know how it was going to play out
- The audiobook was presented well & definitely added to the tension/drama

Things I didn’t love:
- Like with most thrillers I needed to suspend my belief a little bit but tbh it didn’t hinder the story & I enjoyed the drama of it all!

Overall I really enjoyed this book & would highly recommend!

If you had to choose between saving the life of your patient or that of your only child, who would you save? That is the dilemma which faces heart surgeon Dr Anna Jones when her son Zack is kidnapped and she is asked to leave high profile MP Ahmed Shabir die on her operating table in exchange for Zack's safe return.

The book is definitely one of 3 parts, the first third is intensely gripping right from the start and I didn't want to turn it off as I needed to know what was happening. I was completely invested in Anna and Zack and how she was going to untangle herself from this disastrous situation. The middle third lulled a little bit too much for me as there wasn't a whole lot going on and I did begin to lose interest for a short while. However, fast forward to the last third and we're back to rollercoaster territory with lots of plot twists and some very unexpected curve balls.

The story is told through 3 female characters, Dr Anna Jones, DI Rachel Conaty and Margot, a scrub nurse. Their perspectives alternate and are told by three different female narrators so it was easy to keep up to speed with the varying storyline. It did feel like Rachel and Margot's storylines were a little bit of a filler at times and I probably would have given a higher rating if certain sections were a little bit more condensed.

Overall Do No Harm is a dark, chilling thriller which really made me question what would I do in that scenario. An enjoyable easy listen which kept me entertained during my daily commute.

Tantalisingly Twisted Thriller

🧡 So let’s see here… Guts wrenched? Check. Nails bitten? Check. And my nerves are tightly bundled. Yep, this ticks all the boxes of a sky-high tension thriller.

💚 Listen to this for the three powerful female leads, for the tension that does not relent and for stakes as high as they get. This isn’t even my usual genre - more gangland than domestic thriller - but I HAD to keep going.

🎧 A nice little instrumental set this off on the right foot. I liked that there wasn’t more of it though, as that can be distracting. Another good sign was that there were three narrators - one for each main character. Douze Points.

🎧 This is a very intense listen. Full attention required, not least because you have three female leads, which means three female voices and so not quite as much signposting on who is speaking. Having said that, this has been well produced and well cast and I was able to tell who was speaking.

This was absolutely brilliant! I could not stop listening and was practically glued to my headset. I had a lot of sympathy for Anna and Rachel, whilst their situations were different I definitely related to them from a mum's POV. I can't begin to imagine what it must of felt like for Anna when her son was taken but I applaud her determination and quick thinking as she tried to save him.

Margot was a very interesting character and I really enjoyed getting to know her and her background some more, Such a shame that things didn't work out as she had hoped but given what her and Anna had gone through together one of them was going to betray the other.

I found it very interesting to see how the police and their investigation unravelled whilst everything was going on with Anna and Margot. It was a serious cat and mouse game where you weren't entirely who you wanted to win.

Gripping, intense and fantastically addictive!

This was different, kept me engaged all the way through and i really enjoyed all the characters. Very believable and an insight into the world of gangs and blackmail. It made me question my own ethics where my own child could be in danger, you would do anything wouldn't you? The plot was so good I'm going to seek other other books by this author. If you like thrillers then you will enjoy this book. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.

Do No Harm is told from the perspectives of Anna, a heart surgeon, whose son has been kidnapped to force her to kill a high profile patient. Margot, a nurse who assists Anna in the operation theatre, who is also an opportunist thief under pressure to raise money. Then Rachael, detective investigating the death of Anna’s neighbour.. The viewpoints and back stories intertwine putting together a rather intriguing plot. A dark and twisty ending and the whole book will keep those pages turning!!

I really enjoyed this thriller, told from 3 female pov it had me on the edge of my seat. I listened to the audio version and did find it difficult to differentiate between the characters, but once I got used to them it was fine, as long as you willing to suspend how realistic this would be you will enjoy this fast paced story.

The premise of this book sounded great, and the plot sounded like a blockbuster film!
I really enjoyed the first half of this book, but then after about 50% it just became so far fetched and nuts I lost interest. It just went completely out of control.

The narrator was great, and certainly helped to build the tension.

Overall, I did enjoy this book but it's not necessarily one that will stay with me.

Switching between 3 female POV, this took me a little while to get into.

Anna is a leading cardio-thoracic surgeon, Margot a theatre nurse and Rachel, a senior police officer. We learn something of their very different back stories and personalities and their motivations are well-drawn and make sense relative to their characters.

High tension in parts, there are times when you wish that the pace was a little faster. There are plenty of twists, however, to keep readers guessing and a good deal of moral ambiguity to draw you in and make you ask yourself some hard questions.

I enjoyed listening to an audiobook copy of this book but wish that there had been more differentiation between the characters’ voices.

Pitch perfect audiobook of 2022’s most heart-racing thriller!

If you know me at all, you’ll probably know that Do No Harm is my joint favourite book EVER! You might also know that I haven’t listened to an audiobook since I was a kid (holler if you remember those Disney cassettes that you were supposed to read along with!). Therefore, I was thrilled to be approved for this audiobook via NetGalley. I mean, if you’re going to give audio a go, what better way than with your favourite book!? All I can say is, THIS HAS CONVERTED ME! I am now a fully-fledged audio fan.

I read the physical book of Do No Harm last summer and immediately fell in love with the tension, pace, complex characters and heart-palpitating premise. I wasn’t sure how this would all translate to audio, but all I can say is that it’s a phenomenal listen. The narrative is split between three lead characters - surgeon Anna, her assistant Margot and police detective Rachel - and each character is voiced by a different cast member. All of the cast are fantastic and really create a unique and captivating voice for their character. The narrator of Anna’s chapters, in particular, is incredible. She perfectly captures the juxtaposition between her ice-cold, professional persona and the raw, vulnerable, borderline-hysterical mother who’s son is missing. There’s no denying that Anna is a ruthless, determined woman, but the narrator imbues her with the humanity that Jordan has also created, meaning she’s this flawed but formidable character that you simultaneously sympathise with and set your teeth on edge because of. The pain and the anguish that Anna suffers is so vibrantly portrayed in the audiobook that I felt it right along with her.

Similarly, the narrator for Margot’s chapters does a brilliant job of bringing the different aspects of her personality to life. She’s another morally ambiguous character, but it’s clear that she is driven by desperation to do the things she does. As well as this desperation, Margot is deceptive, lonely, paranoid and craving love and acceptance. The narrator delves deeply into these multiple layers of her character and I found that my understanding of her and my sympathy for her situation grew stronger due to the life being drawn into her by the narrator. This is the same with the detective character of Rachel. Whilst I felt for her and the sympathised with the desperately sad guilt she holds, I found that listening to her chapters in audio helped me gain an even deeper connection with her. Again, the narrator really brings the different aspects of her character vividly to life and I could viscerally feel her emotions, determination and anguish. Whilst it’s true that Rachel’s chapters bring a great deal of tension and suspense to the plot, I also found that in audio her chapters felt even more like an opportunity to compare and contrast the theme of motherhood that so strongly meanders through the narrative. The narrator really gets to the heart of Rachel’s plight as a mother and I felt even more sympathy for her than when I originally read the book. My heart literally broke for her in places.

I was impressed with just how much of the narrative I could remember so clearly (I am 100% the kind of reader or almost immediately forgets everything I just read once I’ve finished!), which is a sign of just how powerful, affecting and fantastically written this book is. Listening to the audiobook has only enhanced my enjoyment of and appreciation for Do No Harm. If you love listening to a twisty and addictive thriller, this one should be top of your list!

God I've been waiting on this book forever! I was hooked on the blurb months ago. It took me about 5768 emails to get the hard copy, almost had to go chain myself to @simonschuster 's front door but eventually they came through (cheers guys). NetGalley sorted me the audio super quick!

As always I did this in paper and audio parallel. There's always a danger when a book has SO much hype that it might not live up to it, and DO NO HARM has masses of hype, all over Bookstagram for months in build up to publication.

The premise of the book was solid and interesting. Based on the ethical dilemma of kill man to rescue child, I mean I think its pretty obvious what most of us hard-core Mam's would do without second thought.

The plot was easy to follow and kept me engaged without being too taxing, I listened/read over a week and it was easy to put down and pick up where I left off. The character attributes meant I remembered each one, they didn't blur or fade into the background. A good sprinkle of diversity, just as it should be in every read.

It's not a top ten for me, but it is canny and a solid thriller and I would recomend it. Reminded me of a Lisa Jewell type read. And I can imagine the author will be knocking out more in quick succession. The twist was there but, I felt that there could have been more, but still overall a canny ending.

I'm frigging living (or dying, see what I did there pahaha) for faux slash cover, gold star to the designer for the well executed, relevant and quirky design.

A tiny issue of an overly dramatic narrator, the doctor had this unusual upward tone at every sentence as if they were describing a haunted house scene, defo not always necessary and kinda off putting.

A read for the airport or weekend away, hoy it in ya suitcase and your sorted. Seen that this is the first year most of us can get away in a long while, grab it and pack it with ya sunnies, sliders and costume.
