Anne Wyn Clark manages to create a suspense filled, creepy illusion of a wonderful historic house throughout the opening chapters of her book which was a pleasure to read. She then delves into the meatier storyline. Although a little slow to begin with, the storyline soon picks up pace and is worth the perseverance when Lowri's daughter Ruby vanishes at her dead aunt's house. We are left suspecting every character at some point throughout the book. With lots of creepy things happening, we are left wondering what secrets her dead aunt's house has to hide. The ending was a little far fetched, but was still well worth the read.

Perhaps the remote island was a mistake? I mistake I will love reading about late into the night.

I loved this book for many reasons. My favourite trope in thrillers is secluded thrillers and this was fantastic.
I loved the main character and her daughter, I loved that the big house had lots of secrets and the undertones of creepiness and intrigue had me just hooked the whole time I read it.

A fairly predictable gothic murder mystery with a Welsh setting. Quite an enjoyable read and the Welsh setting felt authentic, but not especially memorable or original.

Lowri spent the school holidays with her Aunt Gwyn on the island of Anglesey. When Gwyn passes away she goes back to the old house, taking her daughter, Ruby. At the wake, Ruby disappears and Lowri fears the worst. When she visited as a child, another girl disappeared, never to be seen again. Lowri is about to discover her family may not necessarily be all that they seem as the skeletons come flying out of the closet.
A gripping read and really detailed characters made you feel for Lowri throughout the book. As a new author to me, looking forward to reading more books by Ann Wyn Clark.

I really enjoyed The Last House on the Cliff by Anne Wyn Clark. When Lowri returns to her aunt's house with her daughter, mysterious events reveal family secrets. The eerie house and gothic Welsh setting are reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier.

This was a great thriller! Lots of twists and turns! Sometimes I got so twisted and turned around I didn’t know where I was 😂. Anne Wyn Clark knows how to write a thriller. A young woman with a child and recently widowed doesn’t know what she’s going to do one minute and the next her aunt dies and she needs to report to her estate to be present at the reading of the will. And from there is where everything gets twisted and turned around. I don’t believe you’ll be sorry you read it. Oh and those of you who watches out for bad language, there is some but it doesn’t happen often. A sense of foreboding runs throughout this book with few, if any, signs of anything good to come. . And yet this is what makes it a dark, compelling read with twists and unravellings that will keep you avidly page-turning right through to the end.

This didn't quite hit for me. The setting was brilliant and the MC was relatable enough (although why all young mothers in thrillers have to be down on their luck, struggling with money and largely under educated and under advantaged, I don't know. Why couldn't she just be an underpaid employee in a skilled job - there are enough of us!). The story fallows the basic outline of a gothic-y thriller. Young woman has to go back to the unusual house in which she grew up, where she is confronted with the past/ truth and various unhelpful inhabitants etc but the author delivered it in an engaging way. I was most intrigued at the point where a child abduction case from twenty years before seemed to be echoed by the abduction of the MCs daughter. There also appeared to be something uncanny going on. However when the big reveal comes, a lot of that promise evaporates. Overall I enjoyed it but it didn't quite stick the landing for me.

This novel follows the story of Lowri and her daughter when they return to Anglesey on the death of her aunt. It covers family deceit, hidden secrets and undercurrents in small villages.
It is well written and the characters are well developed.

An enjoyable tale

‘Locked room mysteries’ set in wild open, atmospheric spaces have become popular in recent years and this is a particularly fine example. The protagonist, a young mother called Lowri, finds herself on the north west Wales island of Anglesey where she is hoping to make a fresh start with her young daughter Ruby. Both of them take refuge in the remote house that belonged to Lowri’s beloved aunt Gwyn, recently deceased, but it soon appears that the mansion holds terror, not refuge. Strange apparitions and noises plus an old ragdoll that appears in unusual occasions plague little Ruby and one day, the little girl goes missing, throwing Lowri into even deeper turmoil ….

Competently written, this novel had Gothic and Victorian aspects to it that I enjoyed. It was perhaps a little overly long towards the middle chapters, but on the whole, it was an enjoyable, atmospheric and commendable read. I would very much like to thank the publishers and NetGalley for the free ARC that allowed me to read The Last House on the Cliff and to produce his honest, unbiased book review.

I love this book and couldn't stop reading it. Read it in two days. kept taking breaks from things to read for "five more minutes". I really liked all of the characters and how each of them developed throughout the novel. The story line kept me constantly guessing. Such a great plot with so many twists! I wish the book didn't end.

Loved this! Very disturbing in places. Great twists and turns that I didn't see coming highly recommended that you read this one.

This book started out really good but I ended up getting bored after the halfway mark and ended up not finished it. I may revisit it at another time as there may have been things outside the book that was causing me to not enjoy it and I want to give it a fair chance.

The writing is so well done. The atmopshere is everything I was looking for. This book was a solid read. I raced through it. Was hoping it had some supernatural aspects to it, but was still great.

This book was creepy and dark and twisty. I really enjoyed it. This is the second book I've read by this author and she is quickly becoming a favorite for me.
The book feels gothic, old, dark and the writing is so well done. The atmopshere is everything I was looking for. This book was a solid read. I raced through the first 3/4 and slowed down near the end. I had to take a reading break, for sleep. But I got right back in it when I picked it up again.

Now, as she desperately searches for her daughter, she unwittingly uncovers a web of family lies and deceit.....

I expected this book to have a bit of the paranormal to it due to the description I read bit ot didn't so I was a little dissapointed. However, it was atmospheric, it had a good storyline, if a little far fetched!

There was a lot of Welsh in it and it wasn't until the end of the book I noticed there were translations, I found this interesting but also frustrating when I had no idea. what they were talking about 🤣.
