What can I say about this story. All the books written by this author are fab and I always enjoy them and also look forward to the next one. This book is set in Nottingham. Cryus Haven is quite a traumatised person due to his older brother killing his parents and sisters after hearing voices which told him what to do. He was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia and was sent to Rampton (a secure psychiatric hospital) where he has been for 20 years. The powers that be have decided that Elias is now safe to return to the community as he has been a model patient through some of the time in Rampton and as long as he stays on his medication all should be well. Cyrus is totally unsure about this turn of events but has opted to have Elias stay with him so long as others agree to check his progress also. Elias is allowed to leave Rampton in short bursts to see him he gets on and eventually he is released. Evie joins the story. She is an emotional girl and finds life very difficult. She has a labrador, Poppy, which she adores and is her closest friend. Evie stays with Cyrus, although they are not in a relationship, where she feels completely safe until Elias moves in with them. The story progresses. Cyrus is eventually involved in a police matter of murder and abduction. His life is difficult. He is trying to keep Evie safe, help with a murder investigation as a Forensic psychologist and worrying and trying to help and deal with this brother. One thing in his favour seems to be that he has infinite patience for the dramas around him. He is called to a murder scene of a girl called Maya who is found part submerged in a stream and his father was also found with his head badly damaged which caused his death. After Maya was found another body who has some links with Maya is found. Evie is forever trying to appease Cyrus and she seems to have a gift of knowing when people are not telling the truth which can help in situations. As the story continues a third woman, Danielle Linares goes missing that that is when Cyrus realises that they have not been following the correct path in their investigation and changes tack. I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. I thought one thing was going to happen going along and was totally wrong. So many surprises I loved it. I could go on with my comments and wax lyrical but that may spoil the story for someone else. Please read this book, you will love it. I hope Book 4 is in the pipeline

With Cyrus Haven, forensic psychologist, at the hearing to discover whether his brother Elias, was well enough to enter society again, Cyrus was of two minds. Elias had been in the facility for twenty years, and as long as he continued to take his medication, he'd be alright. But would he?

Meanwhile a woman had vanished and her father had been bludgeoned to death. Cyrus needed to work out whether Maya was in danger or whether she'd run away. Cyrus' lodger, Evie Cormac, a troubled but bright young woman, was working at a bar when another woman went missing, and when it was discovered she had links to Maya, the race was on. Cyrus was working through the women's lives, trying to find a connection, but the secrets were buried deeply. Would they find the women alive? Would they find the perpetrator? And what would happen when Elias returned to Cyrus' home?

Lying Beside You is the 3rd in the Cyrus Haven series by Aussie author Michael Robotham and it was excellent! This author never disappoints and I'm hoping this series continues for a long time to come. Plenty of twists, gritty tension and breathtaking moments, Lying Beside You is one I highly recommend.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I wish now that I had read the previous ones. Cyrus and Evie are both improbable character but very likeable. Cyrus's parents and twin sisters were killed by his brother, Elias. In his role as a forensic psychologist, he is called in to assess a murder of a young woman. Another woman disappears and Evie becomes involved. Unusually for me I read it in 2 sittings as I couldn't wait to find out what happens. Brilliant.
This is an honest review of a complementary ARC.

I have not read anything by Michael Robotham before and this book is part of a series however it was easy enough to read as a standalone and was easy to follow.

Enjoyable I will defiantely be going back to the start to read the rest of the series.

I can always count on Michael Robotham to give me a five star read and this particular series is five all the way! I am sure you could read this book as a stand alone but if you read the two previous books first it is just so much better!

Lying Beside You is written with alternate chapters for the points of view of the two main characters, Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac. Each of them is as interesting and significant to the story as the other, so this works really well and keeps the suspense level high throughout the book. Sometimes it is hard not to get cross with Evie who struggles with a lot of personal demons, but Cyrus always manages to be patient and forgiving, so I was too.

The story is exciting and intriguing with good cops and bad ones, murders and abductions and plenty of those red herrings to lead the reader astray. Cyrus is in the middle of the investigations and at the same time coping with the release of his brother from a long term stay in a psychiatric hospital. Of course there is a satisfying conclusion and for me at least a surprise guilty party.

I hope the author gives us more Cyrus and Evie in the future (and Lenny and Poppy again too).

A great read! This book keeps the reader engaged from the start and by the end it is a real page turner.
The characters are well drawn and the pace is good with twists and turns..
It is the latest in a series about Cyrus Haven but it also reads well as a standalone.

This is a gripping sequel, although, absolutely can be read as a stand alone. The lead character of Cyrus has a violent past and his brother, Elias is being held in Rampton high security hospital for the violence.
Cyrus works as a forensic psychologist helping the police and is brought in when a young woman is found murdered and with her head shaved.
Evie is a housemate of Cyrus who has had a childhood in care, where she suffered terrible abuse.
All of this may lead you to believe this is a dark, depressing, read. Yes, it's dark in some of the subject matter but it's got humour and fantastically written characters. It's heartbreaking at times, particularly Evie's story of her refugee experience and I'd definitely recommend reading the first book.
Each chapter of this one is written from either Cyrus or Evie's perspective and this gives the storyline pace and energy. I loved it.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Little, Brown Group and congratulations to the author. Fabulous!

This novel is such a gripping and thrilling read and I loved it. Book number 3 in the Cyrus Haven series and I love this character.

There is quite a lot going on in these novels, main character Cyrus has an awful past as his brother killed his parents when he was younger, his brother is about to be released back into the world and obviously Cyrus is apprehensive of this upcoming event. This storyline runs alongside the main storyline which is a man is found murdered and his daughter is missing and Cyrus is called as a forensic psychologist to try and figure out if the daughter, Maya is running or been abducted.

Alongside Cyrus we meet recurring character Evie who works in the evening and has a very amazing way of telling if people are lying.

I love these novels and really enjoyed both characters.

The storylines are quite loaded and I did feel that I needed to concentrate but nonetheless I did enjoy reading this novel.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and Michael Robotham for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book I have read by this talented author and I wonder what took me so long to discover him. Dr Cyrus Haven, a forensic psychologist is the survivor of a terrible family tragedy in which his brother murdered his parents and twin sisters. A young woman goes missing locally and Cyrus is requested by the police to try and profile her perpetrator. Meanwhile his brother has a parole hearing that could see him released from Rampton top security hospital. Being torn in several directions including looking out for Evie, a troubled girl who lives in his home, sees Cyrus stretching himself in a race against time to get answers. Fast paced with more than one storyline that holds the reader’s interest throughout, with a well conceived main story that instills fear and tension and with a few twists along the way, it is definitely one to be read. The main characters are truly flawed but likeable. In the case of Cyrus he seems to suffer from survivors guilt and wants to help others who have also suffered major trauma in their lives. Although this book is part of a series, it stands alone very well but I now very much want to go back to the beginning and read the others. I’m also assuming there will be more in the future and I for one will be looking out for them. Thoroughly recommended.

I don't know how Micheal Robotham has escaped my book radar until now! This was my first book of his and I LOVED it: the plot and storyline are pure genius, the characters are great and real and the writing style is sublime!
Did I say i loved it? ;-) He's amongst my favourite writers already.
This is number 3 of a series, I didn't realise it when I requested it, but it can be read as a stand alone without missing anything, only take into consideration that you'll want to go buy the previous instalments as soon as you finish this one, just like I did.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A superb thriller, well plotted with plenty of twist and turns. Loved the characters and the author keeps you guessing till the end.
I received this book from Little Brown Books via Netgalley for a review.

Lying Beside You is the third book in the Cyrus Haven series. I haven’t read the first two but didn’t feel this detracted from this novel and that it can easily be read as as standalone. I found this to be a gripping thriller of a book that had me hooked from page one. The plot moved at a fast pace and it certainly kept me guessing. Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group and the author for the chance to review.

I loved reading this book even though I haven't read the previous two books from this series, but now I will definitely do that. I loved the plot, some of the characters too and I really liked how the possible criminal was discovered later on, almost at the same time as with the main characters.

This was a really interesting intriguing crime thriller that does not disappoint.
It is the third book in the series but you can definitely read it as a stand alone & it was a great page turner for me.
Cyrus Haven is a forensic psychologist who suffered a traumatic experience of his family being murdered twenty years ago.
Only him & his brother Elias survived the murder of his parents & sisters.
That killer is in a secure psychiatric hospital but is due for release & the name of that killer is Elias Cyrus’s brother.
He asks himself if he can truly forgive his brother as he prepares for him to live with him.
In the meantime Cyrus gets called out to the crime scene of a murdered man & his missing daughter..
The only eye witness is a young girl by the name of Evie Cormac.
The investigation takes on a whole new level as more things start come to light.
Brilliantly written this superb plot will keep you in suspense & hold you to the end.
Absolutely loved it & will definitely check out the first two in the series as would love to read them too.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book

third book in this series and at first i was a bit puzzled but soon got into it...

a man is murdered and his daughter is missing....

another woman is missing after a nightout and seems to have been drugged

cyrus is a forensic phycologist and works for the police which involves going to crime scenes and talking to witnesses

but his back story is that is family were killed by his brother who after 20 years is being released on day visits but with the aim of being released depending on how well he does on the home visits

a tense thriller with many a red herring, at first i struggled as it is book 3 but after a while i found my feet and found that i was actually enjoying this one...the characters are well established and likeable and i cant wait to see where this series goes

Cyrus & Evie are back with another thrilling instalment and with each novel Michael Robotham cleverly adds more layers to their backstories, both damaged from the past of their child hoods it’s interesting to see how differently Cyrus & Evie paths have taken them. I do think Cyrus has a habit of collecting broken people & I hope he succeeds in helping Evie find her place in the world as well as chasing down murderers. Roll on the next book.

Cyrus Haven has a dark past. When he was young his elder brother Elias killed their parents and little twin sisters. He heard voices in his head who told him to commit the murder. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and lives in a psychiatric hospital since then. Cyrus became a forensic psychiatrist and he understands killers like no one else. When a woman goes missing from a local bar the police ask Cyrus Haven for help. Another woman was abducted from her home recently and it is possible that the cases are connected.

Evie is also a survivor. She suffered abuse in her childhood until she was found by the police. She was an unidentified child with no name, no papers. Cyrus helped her a few years ago in a court case were she fought for her right to be released as an adult from childcare. But she still has issues because of what she suffered and she has nobody in the world. So Cyrus took care of her and let her live in his house. Evie has the incredible ability to tell when somebody is lying. She is also an eyewitness in the case of the missing woman because she worked at that particular bar.

So Cyrus has a lot on his plate. There are two missing women, Evie manages to get into trouble all the time and his brother Elias is going to be released from the hospital and wants to stay with him.

Michael Robotham’s stories are always very complex and tangled. I love how clever he constructs them and his writing is exceptional. Cyrus is a wonderful character. He has been to so much but he is so caring and empathic. And he is very good at his job. I am not so keen about Evie. I find her very annoying. She wants to be treated as an adult but she still behaves like a sullen teenager. I get it, her childhood was horrible and full of abuse. She did not learn how to interact with people properly. But she is also stubborn and acts without thinking. She is smart but she is not able to use it in the right way. I feel a bit bad to say it, but I do not like her.

This is the third book in a series and I had to learn to my own astonishment that I only read the first one. Somehow I missed the second one. I would recommend reading at least the first one before reading this one. Otherwise you will have problems to understand the characters. I am looking forward to the next instalment of this series.

The latest instalment of the Cyrus Haven/Evie Cormac story is an excellent addition to the series . The story follows the investigation and subsequent murder of a young woman and develops into a much broader scenario.
While helping the police Cyrus is also coming to terms with the release of his brother Elias from Rampton and the difficulties it causes Evie. The plot blends the disparate strands into a great ending.I am never disappointed in any book byMichael Robotham and this is no exception. One of the best British crime authors working today.

It's only when I've come to review this that I now realise that this book was part of a series and I've missed the first two.
Honestly I couldn't tell - the book stands alone very well on its own and I thought the characters could do with a further outing.

At 40% through this book my son asked me what the book I was reading was about. I told him at the time that apart from being a detective crime thriller I honestly didn't know. On that basis I'd have to say the first half of the book is rather slow to get going. After that it builds up speed and certainly finishes off as a well-rounded book with lots of interesting characters and a suitable finale. I enjoyed it but knocked a star off due to the slow start.

There are numerous crime thriller choices out there but with the interesting characters involved (with detail more to be uncovered/explored) I'd recommend fitting in this one into your reading pile too.

Many thanks for the ARC.

Elias Haven murdered his parents and his twin sisters two days after his nineteenth birthday. Voices told him to do it. Only two people survived the carnage - Elias, who was sent to Rampton, and his thirteen-year-old brother, Cyrus, who hid in a shed until the police found him. Twenty years later, Cyrus is a forensic psychologist and he's been told that his brother is being released. Can Cyrus forgive the sinner whilst having to live on a daily basis with the results of the crime? Can he bear to have Elias living in the same house? How will his lodger, twenty-one-year-old Evie Cormac, cope?

Cyrus still has his job to cope with and he's called to a crime scene in Nottingham. A man is dead and his daughter, Maya, is missing. Before long another woman is abducted and the only witness is Evie who has a troubled background and a gift for knowing when people are lying to her. As she admits herself, that's just about all the time. People do it - it's just that she has a hard time letting things go.

Both missing women have dark secrets, and Cyrus will have to unravel their pasts if he's to understand the case. Both he and Evie know what it's like to have secrets to hide: as a child, Cyrus was Befriended. Bullied. Cosseted. Counselled. He was a hard child to love. Perhaps that's what he recognised in Evie. Detective Superintendent Lenny Parvel recognises the value he brings to her cases but the officer in charge of this case, DCI Gary Hoyle, isn't worried about voicing his reservations. He's also convinced that he's identified the killer: it's the man who sexually assaulted one of the abducted women six years ago and who has just been released from prison.

I loved this book. I was pulled in before I got to the bottom of the first page and when I got to the last I was trying to turn it over to see if there was anything more to read. I often get annoyed when characters' backstories are given in detail but that didn't happen in Lying Beside You. I wanted to know more about Cyrus and Evie. They're so well-observed that they were with me even when I wasn't reading and I found I was developing plans for their futures. They had become real with a life outside the novel.

The plot is superb. The pacing is perfect as layer upon layer of intrigue is added and the story twists every which way. At times the tension is almost unbearable and I finished the book in just two sittings. There was no way that I was prepared to go any longer without knowing the name of the killer. Did I guess whodunnit? No. Was I satisfied by how it worked out? Absolutely.

I'd like to thank the publishers for letting Bookbag have a review copy. This is actually the third book in Robotham's Cyrus Haven series. I wasn't aware of this before I started reading and - as you can see - it didn't affect my enjoyment of the book. I will definitely be going back to get the first two books in the series.
