Nighttime for Just Us Two, Volume 1 by Maki Miyoshi is a unique shojo manga about a lonely, awkward high school girl and her classmate that gets possessed by a friendly alien when he's asleep. This volume didn't really jive with me unfortunately. The love interest having such drastic personality changes really didn't work for me, when the main girl was obviously just trying her best to help out in the crazy situation. The art was still great, and I really rooted for the main girl too. I'm sure this story will progress better in further volumes, but I probably won't continue reading at this point

A girls whose name no one can remember and the most popular boy in class come into contact with each other in the weirdest of ways! When I read the premise, I just had to request this manga, and I’m very happy to report I was not disappointed. I loved the art and especially the character design of the female lead. She is not drawn like every other manga girl, which I really appreciate. I can’t wait to continue with this story and find out where it goes. If you think you would enjoy a rom-com with an extraterrestrial twist, then this is the book for you!

Imagine a girl whose name no one—other than the most popular guy in school—remembers. Now, wouldn’t it be even more peculiar if the only guy knowing her name had a sudden—out of this world—change in his personality that only said girl notices?

With quite an intriguing premise and a cute artwork, Nighttime for Just Us Two warms your heart from the very beginning. It’s impossible not to feel for both our heroine and the alien (temporarily?) inhabiting Koga-kun’s body, they are clearly destined to get close. It doesn’t matter if our heroine doesn’t get why he craves her friendship so desperately, he is determined to be her friend. Just look at the spark in his (whole body) eyes . . . how can you refuse him? Maybe out of loneliness—although she claims to be good in her own world—but soon a quirky and adorable friendship blossoms. So, between funny scenes and embarrassing moments, readers get the best enjoyment. Beware, though, Koga-kun (the human) may not be happy with what is going on . . .

An original and enjoyable first volume that also shows how awkward and difficult socialising can be for some people. I believe this is a manga that could easily become one to cherish, just like the friendship between the two lovely characters.

This story has surprised me for good. I especially liked the relationship of friendship that is created between the characters.

The first volume introduces us to Miyako, a girl who goes so unnoticed that no one in her class remembers her name. Miyako loves solitude, tranquility, and everything is like that until one night when she goes out to look at the stars and watch videos of her favorite puppy, she meets Koga, a classmate. Everything normal, if it weren't for the fact that the one who talks to Miyako is actually an alien who is living in that body and only comes out while Koga sleeps.

The story seemed very cute to me and it has some touches of humor that made me laugh a lot. Miyako goes from not being "seen" in class to being the center of attention because of the approaches she has with Koga. The alien is my favorite character, he is the opposite of Koga in terms of personality, he is funny, cheerful and cares a lot about Miyako. I love the friendly relationship they have, wanting to help each other at all times. Koga on the other hand seems to always be in a bad mood with Miyako, although there are times when he helps her.

In this first volume of Nighttime for just us two there is no romance at all, but there is no need. The story is already beautiful, and I'm looking forward to knowing what happens with the characters and if the alien, Chiro, will get out of Koga's body.

Hidden behind this softly-coloured cover and sweetly-sounding title was surprisingly not a shojo romance manga. There was tension but not enough to amount to romantic chemistry, however, this manga didn’t need to rely on any romance elements to stand out due to its stellar concept. Even the manga’s description didn’t do it justice.

The concept was a strange mesh between Parasyte and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, leading the character, Koga, and his counterpart, Chiro, to share the spotlight. They were unsettling polar opposites that wore the same face and it was fascinating to see, as Koga by himself was complex enough, but adding in a whole other alien entity suddenly made this character even more of a complete mystery than before.

And with any other character the body-sharing likely wouldn’t have worked because inevitably one personality would have drowned out the other, but Koga was uniquely complex enough to not meld with Chiro or be overshadowed by him. Even when Koga’s actions were succinct, his motivations remained unclear, and when his actions were seemingly good, it would later be revealed that it benefitted him to act that way and so the question of “is Koga actually a good guy?” was one that lingered throughout.

And it wasn’t just Koga that was compelling; the protagonist was also fantastic. She shunned manga stereotypes by remaining ungirly, unsocial, and wonderfully stubborn. Her personality perfectly clashed with Koga’s and made for such interesting interactions.

The plot was superbly unexpected in many ways and the pacing was slow to begin but fast once the introductions were over, making this an exciting and engaging read that left me wanting more by the end.

super cute and definitely different!

The MC, Miyako, is one I can totally relate to. Quiet, loves being alone, keeps to herself, yep definitely can relate to her.

But Miyako's quiet world is disrupted one night when a male classmate suddenly shows up at the spot she normally visits during the night for alone time. Except, it isn't quite her classmate..... nope, it's an alien that is borrowing said classmate's body.

Yep, an alien. Borrowing the guy's body while he sleeps.

The classmate, Koga, isn't aware of what is going on yet suspects something. The alien, Chiro, meets with Miyako at night and they become friends. Things seem to be "ok" until the Koga wakes up while Chiro is still visiting with Miyako!

Let the fun and craziness begin!

Miyako is definitely no longer alone and "invisible" as she deals with Koga at school and Chiro at night all while trying to help straighten things out! I can't wait to see what happens in Volume 2!

Such a perfect set up for the next Volume! I’m really interested to know if the alien is actually good or is secretly evil 😈. The pacing was really nice and kept me intrigued which allowed me to get through it fast. I can’t wait for Volume 2!

This was different! I liked the alien aspect here, but I wonder how is it going to play out in the next volumes. I loved our main character and even Chiro-Kun. The forming friendship between them is super cute! However, the actual owner of the body, Koga-Kun, wasn't really likable to me. Maybe his character gets fleshed out in upcoming volumes.

All in all, I'm interested to see where this goes.

This is an adorable manga, which I found also touching.

We are introduced to Miyako, who is essentially someone who is invisible in school, and no one seems to know her name, thus leading a very lonely school life.

One random night, she meets an alien, (who is later named Chiro-Chan), who happens to inhabit the body of her classmate Koga, when he sleeps. Chiro would be the first friend she meets, who, unlike Koga, is very happy and cheerful, the complete opposite of Koga, who is always brooding.

When Koga becomes aware of Chiro inhabiting his body, it is clear that he is not happy.

I really enjoyed this, and look forward to reading more in the series.

This has such an interesting premise. It has aliens making friends with humans. The alien trades with the body of the human when the human is asleep. It has lighthearted parts, it has some drama and it had it's sad parts. I can't wait to see how close they will get and what obstacles they will need to overcome.

This was really cute! Definitely had moments where I was laughing out loud and even a few where I was getting mad at certain characters and situations.

No one at school remembers our heroine so when a boy from her class does, she’s surprised. She’s even more shocked to find out he’s been taken over by an alien! A very wholesome, adorable alien.

I love the contract between the adorable personality of the alien and how moody the actual boy was. The way the plot flows between these three was super fun to read! I’m for sure planning on picking up future volumes because I need to see where things go with these three!

This manga is so adorable! The whole concept of an alien taking over a teenage boys mind to make a friend is one that could work really well or really bad. Right now, I am enjoying the quirky concept a lot. Let's hope it stays that way!

Fairly cute art style although not my favourite, at least the characters were cute and the art style was quite clean.

Nikaido’s aversion to social interaction is hilariously relatable, as is her quite quiet nature and struggle to correct people who call her by the wrong name! I haven’t stumbled across such a relatable character in a while so I was rooting for him from the beginning!

While I love our little alien, I’m less sure about Koga, I suspect he’s not as mean and cold as he acts and he perhaps viewed her some type of way based on what the alien got cut off from saying but for now he doesn’t come across in the best light! Of course the contrast between personalities does provide a lot of the humour as does the situations Nikaido finds herself in as a result of her friendship with him, but I’m slightly wondering if Koga is making it up.

The pace is pretty good, a fair bit happens within the volume and there’s plenty of humour as well as a few moments to make you cringe! I personally found the alien aspect a nice surprise and it made for some humorous moments, but the entire volume wasn’t quite what I expected!

This manga was cute, and sort of a different type of shojo manga that I would read.

Miyako is an innocent, introverted girl that is invisible to everyone at school. None of the students remember her name correctly, or care to know anything about her. Miyako walks the halls in her school alone, and that doesn’t bother her. Until she’s meets an alien, Chiro-Chan. The alien took over Koga-Kun’s body while he sleeps. Miyako and Chiro-Chan become friends. Koga-Kun is the popular guy at school, and he is sort of a jerk (but in a cute way).

This first volume turned out to be much more cute and funny than I had originally thought. I only glanced at the summary before reading, so I never would have guessed that the alien was POSSESSING the ML's body, rather than the ML himself being the alien. It was a pretty hilarious twist, especially when comparing Chiro and Koga's 180 personalities. I will say that I preferred Chiro to Koga as a character, and his adorable interactions with shy Nikaido were just so sweet in comparison. I docked a star from my rating just because I got so much more attached to Chiro that I barely cared about Koga at all....oops!

In Koga's defense, I will say that he reacted pretty realistically for someone who found out that their body is possessed by an alien who wants who-knows-what. I wouldn't be very happy or open to understanding a being who controls my body while I'm asleep, either. However, by the last chapter, I thought he was being pretty hard on Nikaido, when it's not as if any of it is her fault. Letting her be insulted behind her back by everyone unless she asked him to "help/save her," then using "well, actually, she's my girlfriend (lie)" as a band-aid solution to the problem didn't give him any extra points with me.

Nikaido herself was relatable in some sense for me, since we share some introverted tendencies. I think younger readers who are also very shy or have a hard time reaching out to others in order to make friends will understand her way of thinking. Her hobby of watching dog videos to recharge was also a nice extra.

The artwork is pretty standard high school shoujo romcom, but I will say that the exaggerated expressions were great. They really added to the comedy, along with some good paneling. Very fluffy and sweet.

I'll definitely pick up volume 2 for more of the great comedy and cute moments!

This has a love triangle and I am not a huge fan of it but the manga is so cute. Unrealistic and very funny and shy girl x popular kid romance!

Nighttime for Just Us Two Vol 1 did not disappoint me at all. I read the first volume in one sitting, and when I was done, I just wanted to keep reading.

The shy, quiet girl falls for the popular kid's alter alien ego???? SIGN ME UP! What I enjoy reading manga is how silly and unrealistic it can be, but it just pulls you in. I love the opposite attracts trope and this storyline is all over it.
The plot was very easy to follow, I love how each of the characters has very unique personalities, and as the reader, you are able to see what each of them brings to the table.


I am looking forward to volume 2 and just to see how this story lands! :)

I think this definitely works better as a random magical comedy story than anything else I could've expected. I probably missed the Alien part when requesting it, but it was interesting lol a random alien taking over a popular boy's body when he sleeps? Well that's fun.

I feel bad for the heroine, she definitely deserves better than like everything going on for her, but it was interesting. There's room for growth here and when you accept the ridiculous it gets fun. Even if there's like One likeable character so far, besides the protagonist.

How dare Maki Miyoshi give us this extremely cute storyline and I can't even read volume 2 yet!

I absolutely loved this store and Miya-chan is so sweet, pure and must be protected at all costs. I love her strength and loyalty. It breaks my heart to see her alone and hope Chiro-chan makes an appearance in the next volume. Also Koga-Kun really is giving off gangster vibes lol!

Love the twist of the alien taking a human as a host and I can't wait to see the friendship blossom.

Easy to read (read in one sitting and will be rereading again!)

This was actually my first manga and I really enjoyed it! Such a cute and funny story but with some serious elements as well. It felt very unique and original and I was grinning and smiling all the way through. I felt bad for our main character, Miyako and enjoyed the duality to Koga-Kun. I will most certainly pick up book 2 in this series!
