I love the unique manga style as it's not very offen you see one that reads like a normal book! The story was gripping and I loved the art style as well. An amazing read, I would definitely recommend

I don’t think it’s funny to joke about an interest in “loli’s.” I was very disappointed when the main male character professed an interest in them.

Ghost Reaper Girl Vol 1 by Akissa Saike introduces Chloe, an "old" actress who looks like a child. Chloe is trying to make it in Hollywood. One day she realizes she is a tasty treat for ghosts. A mysterious man comes to her rescue she thinks.

This had an interesting fun concept. There were aspects that made me want to continue but and this is a big but I hated the oversexualization of the main character. Constant "I want to be in your body" comments from the ghosts and so on. It just made this less than enjoyable. I liked the art and Chloe definitely had the start of an interesting character.

3 stars because I finished it, remembered it and enjoyed some aspects. Thank you to NetGalley, VIZ Media and Akissa Saike for the free copy this is an honest review.

The manga is well made and has an interesting concept. I’d definitely give the second volume a chance and recommend to those who like Soul Eater and other similar titles. The artwork is great as well.

The art was pretty and the mechanics of the world seemed interesting but the plot and the characters seemed a bit too juvenile and flat. Fine for a quick read, but not that impressive.

I was pretty excited about this title from the cover and description, but unfortunately, it failed to grab me past the first few chapters. The action was exciting, but it falls into many familiar fanservice traps, and the story wasn't enough to keep me engaged past that stuff.

This is a little all over the place. It takes a minute to figure out what’s going on. Our main character is Chloe Love and she was in actress in a show called Ghost Reaper Girl. However, it turns out that she is also the perfect medium for ghosts, and all of them want in her body. It’s very rapey. There are constant comments about getting in her body and her lack of free well while not actually rape, it feels like rape. So that’s a little sick. However, as the story develops, one likes her more, and it’s not disliking the main character. It’s how everyone sees her as a sex object that gets annoying. She even sees herself as a sex object at times between looking like a child, but being 28 (which is mentioned frequently), it’s a little pedophilic. I do want to read the next one to see if it levels out any because nothing really happens to the character except they sign a contract to become an actual ghost reaper but I think I might want to see where this goes. I’m on the fence right now.

I thought that this was a really strong start to this series. Like some of the other reviewers, the constant sexualized "Let me inside your body" requests or attempts to possess a body were... a bit of a turn off. I'm hoping that lessens just a little as the story goes on since a joke can be repeated only so many times before it gets tired.

Besides that minor concern, I love the Magic Girl x Ghostbusters mood and am definitely interested in the second volume.

Saiké's Ghost Reaper Girl follows Chloe, a young and struggling actress, as she finds herself dragged into the affairs of the spirit world after a jailbreak from Hades leaves the living world flooded with malicious spirits.

Overall, this manga was hilarious and certainly kept me reading. Chloe gets tangled up with two male ghosts. Mind, now, one is a cat (which I adored). And in true cat fashion, Noel 'adopts' Chloe despite her protests. It felt like Sailor Moon meets Ghostbusters.

I didn't care for the fact that Chloe was oft objectified, especially when possessed. Even Chloe herself finds some of the clothing she ends up in more than a little special. There's also the unsettling Lolita reference, though Chloe is an adult nearing 30.

****Many thanks to Netgalley and VIZ Media for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This manga is very fun and doesn't take itself super seriously. It's a great new series and reminds me a little of Kamisama Kiss with a touch of Black Butler. Great balance between serious and funny, kicks the 4th wall every now and then and is a great read!

“The perfect mix between 'Blue Exorcist' and 'Sailor Moon'.”
A fun and strong start to a paranormal manga! A non-very successful actress who discovers that she's a medium who can be possessed by spirits and she needs to fight them with the help of her familiars. A lot of silliness and nonsense -in a good way! The perfect mix between 'Blue Exorcist' and 'Sailor Moon'.

I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I thought this was a fun read. It has that usual action comedy mix that most shonen jump manga successfully employ. The main character is compelling and has reasons behind why and how they think. I find that sometimes female characters in manga can be a little one dimensional, however, that is not the case in this one. I felt she had depth and ideas of her own. She challenges the "ideals" of the world she is pushed into, which in my mind makes her a pretty strong female lead.

Now, as most shonen, the female lead does get objectified a lot with her physicality, however, I kind of like the explanation of her not being in control of her outfits when changed because her powers come from men. I would like to think this breaches the topic of how men objectify women, as it explains she's not exactly happy about how she is in little to no clothing.

I think this is an enjoyable manga. Maybe not one of my top favorites, but I would continue the story to see where it goes.

Ghost Reaper Girl Vol. 1 is an interesting manga. The premise being that the B-lister Chloe is feeling hopeless about being a star when she is attacked by ghosts seeking to use her as a vessel. Kai, a demon and fan of Chloe's, saves her. She and Kai strike up a deal where he will use her to help rid the world of the stray demons and ghost that have escaped Hades. I will say I have concerns about the age suggestion. This one is definitely for older teens and maybe more so adults with some of the suggestive manner in which Kai talks to Chloe and also some of the angles that are focal points on the page. I think that may be a concern to parents. All in all, it wasn't a bad read, but I'm not sure if I will be continuing the series. Thank you for the chance to review this piece!

Well, this one started a little reminiscent of manga that takes advantage of the Lolita trope. We didn’t get a lot of Chloe’s character before jumping into her new assignment as a ghost reaper, working with seductive Kai on a mission to banish bad souls. A lackluster debut for me, but I could see this one carrying on for a while. Chloe seems cute, and for some reason they keep reiterating that she’s gasp almost 30 so this must be a big deal in other cultures that she’s still…cute.

The art is beautiful, but I'm not sure I've connected with the story yet! It is an interesting concept, but aside from being a former star, I'm not sure I know enough about the main character. I'll pick up the next volume though!

Chloe is a late-20-something actress who had one major role in her teens and can’t seem to find another gig. On the way home from an audition she bombed, she’s attacked by ghosts and demons who have escaped Hades and are drawn to her for her superb occult power. Luckily, the Ghost Reaper Kai comes along and saves her, and turns out to be her biggest fan! He convinces Chloe to combine forces with him - literally - where she absorbs him and is able to transform into a Ghost Reaper with a magical scythe that is the embodiment of Kai.
I read this book around a week before writing this review, and I still don't know how to feel about it. On one hand, this somewhat feels like a new take on the magical girl trope with Chloe having to transform and have a special weapon, so I appreciate it for that element because the magical girl trope was a big part of my formative years reading manga. However, there are a lot of problematic moments of fan service and other inappropriateness - Kai continuously says he must be “inside” Chloe for the power to work; Chloe is a “Lolita” and looks like she's a teenager, and that’s part of her appeal to Kai; there are several problematic focal angles that highlight parts of Chloe’s body, often in the middle of action sequences. Chloe feels a little uncomfortable with the attention from Kai in this manner, but sort of brushes it off because he's handsome - which is not a message I think should be propagated. I think the overall story is interesting and could be fun if we could get away from the sort of creeper elements of Kai and just focus more on the badass female vibes.

The illustrations use a lot of older techniques, to the point where I thought this manga may have originally be published in the late 80s/early 90s, but that could be capitalizing on when Magical Girl was more popular. There are a lot of "unfinished" line work and strange digital shading that I hope was just in the review copy. The copy also read Western style from left to right, so that really threw me for a loop.

This is a very interesting first volume! The art style is really cute and I think the kids will be very excited to have this in the library. I would say this is for fans of Soul Eater actually, or at least in the same vein.

Chloe Love is a B-movie actress who is beginning to lose hope that she will ever become a star. When a creature straight out of the movies attacks her, Chloe beats back the ghost - much to the astonishment of a watching demon. Chloe might not be a famous actress, but her loyal following will turn her into Ghost Reaper Girl online.

This series seems to be a combination of Sailor Moon and Deathnote. Chloe has magical transformations and fights monsters with the help of a demon. I enjoyed the art.
