This book was really difficult for me to get through. It was sort of a horror story but told in as way that I just could not relate to. I did not like any of the characters and felt they were really underdeveloped. Many of the situations were just unbelievable. The writing itself was not bad, but this one definitely was not for me. Two stars is the best I can do.

A great thriller - I would recommend it!

Really enjoyed the writing style of this one, although the book didn't stick with me much after, which is why I rated it a bit lower. Kind of reminds me a bit of watching a good, solid slasher movie- fun in the moment, enjoyable, but not anything profound.

That being said, I do still recommend this book. It was quite the ride, and the imagined universe was quite vivid (although I do wish there had been a few more background and lore-building details given about it).

Jack Clausen has had his share of bad days. But when he loses his 5yr old daughter he wallow r over a year lost in the bottom of a bottle. Marriage and job on the rocks, doesn't even know his other children anymore.
On one of the lowest days of his life as he is about to step in front of a train he crosses paths with an odd little being that promises to bring back his Daughter.
The price that he will have to pay is not yet told to him but he will learn a little too late that there are consequences to all of his actions.
This book really tugs at a parents heart strings. Any parent will do whatever it takes to bring back a child they lost. Regardless of the consequences. And that is why I could relate to the pain and the sorrow of the main character Jack. Then he was offered the deal of a lifetime that he could somehow bring her back.
There were some unanswered questions for me in this book. They never did go into detail about who or what the identicals were. Or where they came from. I would rate this book 3 stars out of 5 stars.
Great horror / fantasy concept, could have been explained the background of the little people some more.
I was given an advanced copy to review.

So I've been putting this one off for a while as I've never been in a horror mood since I got the book. Honestly, I wish I'd read it sooner, it's the fastest I've ever read a book.

Normally I read before bed, and I get tired after a few pages so it takes me ages to read anything, but for the first time in a long time, I found myself glancing at the clock and seeing 2am blinking. I just couldn't put it down.

The story was fantastically written, I wasn't sure where it was going at first, but once I got into it, what a brilliant idea for a story. Honestly did not see this entire book coming.

Jack is a bit of an anti-hero and found him difficult to like at first, but by the end of the book I shed a few tears. Only 2 books have ever made me do this before, this is one of them.

Cannot recommend highly enough, my only slightly negative comment is that I felt WBK was holding himself back when writing about the gory/dirty stuff and could have been a bit more graphic with things, but this is personal preference.

I received this story as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was captivated by this story the moment I started reading it. This was a very gripping story of a man grieving the loss f his daughter all while his family is falling apart. We follow Jack as he is drowning his grief in a bottle. The writing really lets the reader feel the weight of the pain and sadness this family is struggling with. The strain in Jack's marriage felt very raw and real.

The author crafted a beautiful story that frightened me while keeping me at the edge of my seat. I kept wanting to know more about the Identicals and what the price of seeing a loved one who had passed away would be. This story made me question my own relationship with death and grief and wonder how I would have reacted if I was in the character's shoes.

Not my favorite read as I was not a huge fan of the writing. I kept reading to see what was really going on which was a bit of a letdown in the end. Oh well.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for a copy of this book.

OMG...where to start!

Identicals is creepy, horrifying, devastating, tense and has an 80's kind of horror book vibe!

Backstory: Jack, is at his lowest. A year and a half ago, his daughter was kidnapped and murdered. However, the loss doesn't end there. He loses his son, Bryson to an overdose. He could have prevented his death, if only he answered his son's desperate phone calls for help.

He thinks of ending his life, he lost two children, his job and about to lose his remaining family when he is saved by a total stranger.

After this ordeal, he decides to go to a bar to drown his sorrows. Here, he meets an old hag and a strange dude, that can change his life forever. Jack can get his daughter back from the grave however, he needs to pay an undisclosed debt that comes at a very high price.

In alternate universes, his family is whole. Jack has what was promised, now he needs to pay his debt. Which he ignores! From here, the Identicals haunt his waking moments and his dreams. His daughter begs him to pay the debt. The Identicals want what is owed and they will stop and nothing till it's paid!

My thoughts: The Identicals starts off slow but quickly picks up. It takes you into multi-universes that becomes more disturbing than the last. The characters were well developed and relatable. I mean, who wouldn't sell their soul to the devil to get your family back! I loved how the Identicals came to be and how they can alter our life. Now, let's talk about the ending.....WOW! WOW! WOW! Want to know how it ends.....just read it!

A creepy compelling read that had me swiping the pages fast!

A good old fashion horror book!

Knight has a remarkable writing talent that is creative and creepy at the same time. I have found a gem of an author!

5 solid stars!

Whenever there is a great loss, any kind of personal tragedy......

........who has not ruminated on the course of events that lead up to it: 'If only I hadn't been distracted, not had to deal with someone else at this point. If only I'd seen this coming, done things differently.'

And what if somehow there was a way of returning to a critical point in time and having the chance tomreplay certain cards, and avoid an unhappy fate? Surely there would be no diabolical strings attached if it was offered?

The main character of this story, Jack, is in this position. After losing a child in horrific circumstances he is now an alcoholic and unemployed, while still more familial tragedy beckons.

Yet it seems that Fate can get malevolent indeed if challenged. Jack is now pursued by furies who exact impossible demands from him. A clairvoyant sees the issue but can only give a name to Jack's furies, or unprepossessing demons: the Identical.
Will Jack be able to free himself and save his family, nor is he doomed to end up further enmeshed in deeper hprtors still?

This novel manages to convey a sense of dread and entrapment despite raised hopes, the accomplices of the Identicals somehow conveying the sheer degradation a wrong turn in life can engender.

An excellent read for afficionados of all things horror.....

Identicals is a supernatural story that defies the boundaries of normal horror reads. It was riveting, maddening, and ethically powerful, to say the absolute least without revealing spoilers.

When I started this book, I had no idea what I was getting into, and from one reader to the next, I promise you will not be able to predict this one. Which is exactly what made it so captivating. It is an original work of art and I can't recommend it enough.

The question that you will be left with in the end of this read is one of great ethical weight: if you could save those closest to you, but at the cost of another life, would you do it? Knowing you had to live with those consequences for the rest of your life?

This book perfectly encapsulates the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover."

I will admit, I didn't find the cover that appealing. I thought it seemed like the cover of a cheap pocketbook that's only good for a long flight or train ride, but I'm really happy I looked past that and actually read the description.

And what can I say, this book was an enjoyable, thrilling ride.

Jack Clausen's life used to be perfect, but after a terrible tragedy that happened a year and a half ago, it's now it's falling apart at the seams. He meets a strange old woman who tells him not to forget to pay his debt when the time comes. When he tries to take his life, a deformed-looking little man saves him and offers him a way out by taking a small yellow pill. The only caveat? He now owes the man a debt... and the price may be much more than he bargained for.

The horror is fairly subtle here, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere throughout the book. There's a feeling of melancholy – you know things aren't going to end well, but you still hope for the best.

All I can say is that it's a real page-turner, and that I had a really hard time putting it down. I finished the entire book in around 3.5 hours, so this is also perfect for a nice evening read. Well, if you consider a book about failed do-overs, tragic backstories, and crumbling family life "nice," I suppose.

Thank you so much, NetGalley, for letting me read this!

P.S. I think there were a couple of typos with regard to the name of the main character... "Clausen" was spelled as "Clauson" on more than three occasions... kinda weird.

This one is reminiscent of Before I Fall but on a 10x level up version of it as this is more on a serious note and not definitely YA.

The struggle of wishing you can turn back tim e and bring back your loved one is the drama part and the terror starts on reliving the part on different scenarios and the payback time is the climax that will really make you stick until the end.

I get it that many didnt connect with this one but it actually did it for me. I cozied up one late evening and started reading this and that did the effect for me. Nice read during the spooky season. ::)

Many feel tragedy brings a family together but this isn’t the case for Jack Clausen’s family. A year and a half after tragedy strikes, his family is barely hanging on. His five year old daughter is dead and he copes by drowning his sorrow in booze and as a result loses his job. The final straw seems to be his oldest son dying from a drug overdose. His turmoil felt raw and real and you see how far this father will go to make things right. The question is can he repay his side of the bargain?

This book deals with multiple alternate realities and I do wish that each had been fleshed out a little more. The “identicals” felt a little lacking. Maybe I was hoping for a bigger bad than what we got. It was promising but fell a little short.

In summary, this book provided a fall into the supernatural without being overwhelmingly scary. Everything tied together neatly without leaving too many questions.

3.5 rounded up.

What if you had to re-live a nightmare in real life expecting to get different outcomes? And what if those outcomes only got worse with each remake? That is what Jack Clausen is forced to re-live again and again for reneging on a deal that brought his daughter and son back from the dead.

Identicals is like the horror version of Groundhog Day. It is nightmarishly scary and a bizarre page turner.

The characters in the novel are developed enough. Though I wished that the supernatural characters were creepier and scarier than they were. Nevertheless, the author still did an excellent job in the portrayal of the unearthly beings as well as the human beings.

The plot was a little slow at times, but it just added to the suspense of the narrative. It still retained that unputdownable vibe as I managed to finish the book in a day.

I’d say if you’re a horror aficionado, Identicals is a should read. Four scary stars.

I received a digital copy of the book from BooksGoSocial through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

I took an interest in this book because of the positive reviews both on Goodreads and Amazon. The concept of this book is kinda unique and promising, but I just didn't connect with the pacing of the book. I also didn't feel any spiritual connection with the MC, and the whole time I lacked the consistency of awareness while reading this. Although the descriptions and dark atmospheric vibes were written well, I'm having difficulty staying on track. In simple terms, I was mostly bored during the duration of reading the book.

I think the pros I can give on this book are the vivid descriptions of the horror the author imbued in it. Sure, it's dark but that suspense didn't really grip me to the edge of my seat. It's not that bad but it's not that great, either. At least for me.

Thank you Netgalley and Altron Services for the eARC!

Identicals was more freaky. I would describe it more like the butterfly effect. The dad has to kill somebody to make up for keeping his daughter alive. But he doesn’t and the daughter kills people instead.
Got pretty freaky

Jack's world changes forever the day his daughter dies. A year and half later he is on the verge of taking his life when someone saves him, and tells him they can bring his daughter back. But if they do, he has to repay the debt. If he doesn't, the consequences will be bad. Jack doesn't listen, caught up in the moment of having his daughter back. Now Jack will realise the consequences of not paying his debt, and will understand who the identically really are...

Oh I loved this one! It was absolutely terrifying, heartbreaking, devastating. It pulled on so many emotions, and yet I couldn't stop reading. This author is incredibly talented, and has a way of writing horrors that make it all the more terrifying. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author!

Creepy, tense, action-packed, imaginative, will be returning to the author for sure, especially if it's also supernatural horror

Identicals by William Brennan Knight is a terrifying and creepy read. The book starts at a slow pace but as soon as you reach halfway it picks up speed. The other half is amazing and literally gives you goosebumps. The most exciting things are the connecting dots between the characters which makes the plot more interesting. By the time I reached climax, it felt like a roller coaster ride. Also, The climax was totally different than what I expected.

I would like to give the book 4 stars. Thanks to BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book.
