I loved the premise of this book. There are 3 powerful people who work together to keep the world in balance: Life, Death, and Time. This story follows Lord Death's journey to find Lady Life, after losing his previous best friend, Lord Life. Time and Death are picking up the slack of their missing 3rd.

As time passes, Lord Death is losing control of his power. He needs to kiss the new Life to transfer the power to them and hope they don't die from his kiss. He sees Meira one day and sees the life energy within her. She is a traveling fortune teller and works for a lord in a small town. They meet and have an unusual courtship.

For me, this book fell short in several areas. I wanted to like the main characters and cheer them on. However, I found it difficult to connect to them. Meira, I found frustrating and her plot predictable. I'd like to see the characters & relationships more developed. For me, this was not a smooth read, but still an OK book.

I'd like to add this is a historical romance /fantasy.

A historical romance wasn't mentioned.

This book was good. It had been a while since I had read anything fantasy and not set in the modern world so it was refreshing.

There are 3 powerful people who help the world run smoothly, Life, Death, and Time. Life dies and Death and Time need to pick up the slack but it’s harder for them because the power becomes hard to control after a while. Lord Death sets out to find a new Life because he needs to see a light in them, not everyone can be life. Death has to kiss the new Life to transfer the power to them. He sees Meira one day and sees the light in her so he pursues her. Meira is a fortune teller and works for a lord in a small town. She initially denies him because she doesn’t think she can do it. Death is persistent and eventually Meira decides to take on the role of life and the balance of the world is restored.

I think the book was too short to fully capture everyone’s feelings. I didn’t really feel the connection too much between Meira and Death but I really liked the premise of this story.

A quick, easy and enjoyable read. This was different to other books I have read in the fantasy genre and I was totally here for it. I loved that Death was a character and it had an interesting premise. I look forward to reading more by the author.
