Vivid, expansive and richly imagined….. An absolutely heartbreaking and unforgettable read, perfect for fans of gripping family dramas, and for those who enjoy great storytelling.

Set in the hellhole of Auschwitz / Birkenau a forensic detective Hugo Fischer is sent to investigate the unexplained death of Nazi who has been found by a young boy Gioele who is one the infamous Dr Mengele’s so called “children” and so begins a harrowing tale of much more than just a mystery death but horrors that Hugo never imagined as he slowly discovers exactly what is happening around him and the horrific secrets of this place are revealed.
It’s a intensely hard book and it pulls no punches but it’s done with empathy and compassion it can’t be easy to write a book set in such horror but the author did it well, the investigation of the Nazi was excellent and I was kept guessing as to who did what till the end.
So well written and a good mystery it has some excellent characters it wasn’t easy to read at time but I can honestly say it was a damn good read, many many thanks to the wonderful author Oriana Ramunno.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love historical fiction, and books set in World War Two especially, but I especially loved this one as it was completely different to others that I have read. This book focuses onn a young boy finding the body of an SS Nazi Soldier within a concentration camp andafter reporting it, a man is sent to investigate the mystery, a man who has secrets of his own and soon discovers the Nazi Final Solution secret also. But what will he do?

This was an incredible read, it was well written with a absolutely riveting storyline, well developed characters, secrets and uis full of emotion. I loved it.
