I was first drawn to this book because of the colorful cover. The illustrations are so bright, colorful, and pretty. It can be hard to have a unique name when going to school. This little girl handles the situation well and in the end finds a good friend with a name just as unique. I loved the diversity represented in the book.

This book was so special. I wish I had a book like this when I was a child. My name is Oniya and everyone called me Onion growing up because who has a name like Oniya. Now that I am in my twenties I love having a name that I can say "I've never met or heard anyone with my name. This book is gonna show and help kids how important it is to accept themselves and each other.

I had to mention page 28, when Rainbow talks about needing space. As a toddler teacher, we always express the importance of the children giving each other space and the knowing when you need to walk away and find that space for yourself. Personally, I have not seem many children books show a child acknowledging the unkindness of other children and leaving to find their own space. That is a scene that I can use in my classroom to express this is what we do when someone is trying to get a negative reaction.

Lastly, it is always important to show different culture representations in books. I love seeing myself as a child in so many books today. Beautiful brown skin and kinky/curly hair.

I fell in love with the cover. Also, it’s fantastic to see a Black girl on the cover with her natural hair. That’s so much yes in my book. What makes this book awesome is the positive message. It’s about embracing who you are, along with being proud of just being you. Rainbow is an awesome example of this, and I love the message of this book. It’s all about just being who you are, and I think this is an important lesson for small humans. I absolutely adored this book, and I would get a copy for my child who has a unique name as well.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a digital review copy.

BOOK REVIEW

A Girl Named Rainbow by Kriystaelynne Sanders Diggs @allthingsdiggs

This childrens book caught my eye due to the gorgeous cover illustration by Khayala Aliyeva. Thank you to the author, publishers and @netgalley for approving me to read/review this one.

Rainbow is a little girl who gets teased due to her unique name. She doesn't like it and wants to be like the other children at school, the ones with normal names.
But her mother has some encouraging and inspiring words for Rainbow to make her change her mind about being the same as everyone else.

This is bright, colourful and a really fun read. It's about being proud of who you are and liking yourself. A great lesson for children to be happy with themselves and not to let the words of others bring them down.

I think this has a really great message and it's super super cute!

A Girl Named Rainbow is a cute story about a child learning to accept herself and gain confidence in who she is. With its rhymes and beautiful color palette, it is a delight to both read and look at. I would recommend that this book is placed in any youth section of a library or any elementary school classroom

A Girl Named Rainbow was a very sweet girl with a "different" name. I loved the story's message that what may make you different actually makes you unique! Great, bright illustrations, good diversity of characters.

A Girl Named Rainbow is a very sweet story about a young girl who begins to struggle with accepting her name. When all her classmates make fun of her name she becomes very sad and wishes it was something else. I was able to read this story to my niece who enjoyed both the story and illustrations. This is a good story about accepting yourself and everything that makes you unique.

A beautiful little book. I read it with my 4 year old. The illustrations really captivated her as it was a beautiful bright book. The moral of the story is to not make fun of people for being different and that everyone is unique. Something that really does needs to be spoken about with children of this age who will be attending school in the very near future.

What a cute book! As an educator, I am always on the lookout for new books and I can’t wait to purchase this. If you liked the book Chrysanthamum, I think you will like this. It is about a girl named Rainbow. She loves her name, but the kids tease her for it. I love how she gets the confidence to be proud of herself and not worry about others- that message is so important! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
