A solid thriller which delivers what it promises on the cover.
I found it quite hard going at first but it did pick up and concludes well.

A nice read with some interesting 70's images and vocabulary but unfortunately it's as far as I'm willing to go. Because the plot doesn't pass muster with me.

A serial killer on the loose in Phoenix, a handsome cop and 2 witnesses that end up living with the cop and an implausible story that never manages to take off. The author was mostly known for her romance fiction but her brief foray into the world of mystery & thrillers (with her husband as co-author) was highly unsatisfactory.
You could probably spend an afternoon at the beach with this novel but not much else....

Many thanks to Sapere Books and Netgalley for strange ARC

Good story and plot, kept me turning the pages throughout and would recommend to others. At times it lagged slightly, but picked up the pace at the end.

The Scent of Fear
by Patricia Matthews
Description
Casey Farrell is on the run from a ruthless killer…

A serial killer stalks the streets of Phoenix, Arizona.

Nicknamed the Dumpster Killer by the press, he wraps his victims in plastic before disposing of their bodies in back alley dumpsters.

When jobless, homeless, and flat broke Casey Farrell unwittingly gets a good look at the baby-faced killer, she soon finds herself the principal witness in a major murder investigation headed by Detective Sergeant Josh Whitney of the Phoenix Police.

But she is not the only person to have seen the killer – and now Casey and nine-year-old Donnie Patterson are the killer’s next targets.

Can Casey and Donnie stay one step ahead of the killer? Can Josh put him behind bars once and for all?

Or will the Dumpster Killer hunt them down first…?

I LOVE books like this. A very well-written serial killer story. Full-on research made me just forget about cooking., Just ignore them, they will feed themself. I just had time to finish this. KUDOS for this book.

A great mystery thriller. The majority of the book covered topics the author was knowledgeable about, and the author did a great job of explaining those things in a way that fit with the story. I truly enjoyed that the way this story was told you could have seen it happening in 1920 or 2020. The story moved in a directn line and there were places where the foreshadowing was extremely noticeable. There were also plenty of unexpected surprises.
